Knicks · Okay I got it! I think (page 1)

Offseason moves to progress the team.

Draft

Trade both 2021 2nd round picks(#32 & #58) for Jalen Brunson
- Brunson played 16mins per game in the playoffs this yr for the Mavs. Maybe they don't love the fit with Luka? But it doesn't make me believe he is a player they want to extend and commit money for the long term. For us he's the perfect player to make a move for.

Trade Kevin Knox to ATL for Gallinari, Onyeka Okongwu, ATL 2021 first round pick (#20)
-Gallinari looks like he is on the decline, This moves saves ATL 20+mil for next season. Since John Collins doesn't look like a long term fit for the money he will want. I can see them working out a S&T for a 2021 first or future first or for another stud player. Either way that extra 20mil in savings plus Collins puts them in position to net a bigger fish. Or they can sign Lauri Markenen for way cheaper than Collins and use the remaining cap for more depth pieces. For the Knicks. Knicks are in position to make such a move. While this move is made with long term vision. Gallo even as a diminishing player. He offers vet depth at that the 3/4 spot as a shooter in a reduced min role that Thibs can work with short term. Okonqwu is a prospect that can be in the mix as a contingency for a Noel & Mitch when it comes to paying them. Or Obi if a trade comes up. The #20 pick gives the Knicks picks 19,20,21 in this draft.

Trade #20 2021 first round draft pick for future top 10 protected draft pick(2023) and future 2nd rounder(2022-24) (Say Toronto as random team)
Trade #21 2021 first round draft pick for future top 10 protected draft pick(2023) and future 2nd rounder(2022-24) (Say Detroit as random team)

Draft Johnny Juzang with the #19
-To be developed as the sniper, shot maker for long term(Fournier's successor).

Free Agency

Sign Evan Fournier(3yrs 50mil, 18mil yr 1, 17mil yr 2, 16mil yr 3)
- 6'7 interchangeable between SG/SF or lining up with RJ OR IQ. His skill set is very very good match for RJ as a ball handler, shooter, shot creator. Was a #2-3 option on a couple playoff teams with Orlando.

Resign Derek Rose(using Lou Williams going rate 2yrs 16mil)
Id offer
Nerlens Noel(1yr 7mil)
Alec Burk(1 yr 7mil)
If they accept great, if they find more or long term money elsewhere then make other plans.

Roster
Brunson/Rose/Vildoza
Fournier/Burks/Quickley/Juzang
Barrett/Fournier/Gallinari/Juzang
Randle/Gallinari/Toppin/Okonqwu
Mitch/Noel/Okonqwu/Pelle

War chest
6 future first over the next 3 seasons, 4 for 2023

THE END.

Well I'd toke up over that and I don't smoke the stuff. Anymore.

Brunson would be great but that’s not enough for him

While I made this looking to kill time for a slow day at the office. Brunson def did pop out as a nice player to target. He was someone a good chunk of the board was clamoring to draft out of Villanova. Probably should have been included in the KP trade. And he has ties to the Knicks from his father who was on that 99" finals squad.

Its hard to evaluate how the Mavs value him. He came off the bench all season but did get 25mins a game. But he only got 16mins in the playoffs. He has potential for a lot more from our perspective. But with Luka seems like Dallas will hold him back.

Id be willing at the end of the day to offer Dallas their draft pick back for him though.

I want to keep those draft picks and select nothing but shooters.

This actually made me laugh. Once Atlanta signs off on this, we can trade Frank for Dame, Huerter, Melo and Portland's first rounder [cough, cough]... damn, where's the popcorn, I'm hungry...

I didn't watch the DAL-LAC series and don't know why the Mavs didn't play Brunson more but they value him highly. I'm guessing it would take more than their own draft pick back.

The back court of THJ and Doncic avg almost 40 min a piece, and both were 2 of the hottest players on Dallas.

Sort of like OBI position with Randle here.

This deal isn't based on Knox's value being that high. It's that dumping Gallo's contract right now after ATL elevated their standing. During this window before they max out Young. They can use that to add in another proven young long term piece. To pair up with Young, Bog, Hunter, Capela, Huerter, Reddish. Maybe work out a S&T with TOR swapping Collins for Siakam who would be a better fit since he has more lateral quickness at the 4. If Knox finds himself with better G play even better. If not that's another 5mil off the books.

gradyandrew @ 6/11/2021 12:37 PM
Oh come on! Gallinari looks great for Atlanta. He's playing backup Center then closing power forward. Why would Atlanta want to trade a key guy to their biggest rivals? The other moves are also questionable. I think Rose gets significantly more, probably a 2 year contract at 175% current salary after we use the rest of our cap space.

Obi is a rookie, Brunson is in his 3rd year. They could easily have moved Luka over to the wing and had Brunson play more. Instead they went with Kleber so they could impose size with Luka at PG.

Brunson can get starter mins on other teams and get paid like one. Dallas looking at their spotrac looks like they have his rights for another season at 1.8mil. But I don't see why Brunson and his agent will be happy with playing a bench role and getting reduced mins lowering his potential earnings. Dallas will probably need to make a decision on Brunson that will effect how they overall play as once he is making a lot more money they will look to play him more and slide Luka over to the wing more. If that's what they want to do then they will do that. But if they want to keep playing Luka more mins at PG and impose size. Will they want to pay Brunson a lot more money only to maybe have him play 16mins per game in the playoffs? Or will they instead look to allocate that money for a more proven wing or forward? While keeping that backup PG spot cheap?

gradyandrew @ 6/11/2021 12:50 PM
Isn't Brunson's contact guaranteed for less than 2 million? Why wouldn't Dallas just keep him on that value deal?

Gallo is owed 42mil over the next 2 yrs. He played 51 games at 24mins per last season. He is 32. There are very high odds that Gallo continues to declined over these next two seasons. IMO the opportunity to reallocate that cap for a proven younger long term piece before having to pay Young is pretty critical for them in terms of being a contender.

Please justify this proposed trade:

Kevin Knox

for

Gallinari
Onyeka Okongwu
