We should see if we can S&T him somewhere. Even if all we get back is a one year contract and some second rounders.
If the front office decides to maintain cap flexibility for 2022 to get a max player(Lavin or Beal), how much can they still spend for this year? Can they still have enough to address the starting point long term and maybe a 1 year overpay SF to make the team competitive? Who are the pg and SF that could fit? Will a trade work better?

On a 1 on 1 deal we can max out.
15M is not that much! I wont get Lonzo. If they decide to go after a max in 2022, maybe its better to use all their picks to strengthen the roster and develop them for a year. Maybe draft Cooper, Murphy and Grimes and use the 58th pick on a european draft and stash.

They can afford Lonzo by trading Knox. That would get the Knicks up to $20 long term. The biggest thing that would hinder the ability to get Lonzo and then Beal/Lavine would be Randle’s caphold. If they don’t let him walk, they would be smarter to extend him because the max extension is less than what his caphold would be next year.

Agree. I thought that even Pelle showed potential last season as a serviceable backup C who can grab boards and rim protect

Knox’s value is nothing right now. Pels are going to ask for a package including RJ or Obi + IQ. F that. I like Lonzo and want him to but we’re better off keeping our young assets and signing a UFA pg
In the news, Bullock is looking for the full MLE and a number of Teams are interested. He would 'love' to stay in NY.
Kelly Oubre did a long live interview on SNY TV. It's worth a watch, it seems like he is publicly lobbying the Knicks for a contract. I wasn't a fan before the interview but after watching it, he seems like he really wants to be part of the team.
Begley keeps stressing the Knicks desire to keep salary open for next season. An interesting note, signing Rose to a one year deal would give the Knicks full bird rights next off season. I'm not sure if adding Oubre for more than a one year deal makes sense, but you have to think the Knicks have a higher ceiling with Oubre vs. Bullock.

Agreed. I gotta guess that Oubre is hunting for a spot to land where he has a starting position and within a team environment where he thinks he can thrive for that next contract.

Just checking the list of FA point guards. I think these,guys seriously limit the amount of assets the Knicks would be willing to give up for Sexton. They are;

Schroeder
Dinwiddie
Ball
Rose
Jackson
Graham
Payne
Nunn
There are also other guys but these guys all look like a definite step up from Payton. What if the Knicks keep their picks and Knox, pay one of these guys a 15 million one year deal, then make Sexton an offer next season as a RFA.

That's 10 guys plus two picks is 12. Knicks could also use the 5 million dollar room exception. If they did, they could have one 5 million free agent and 2 worth 32 million.

We could offer a crazy deal similar to what the Rockets offered Lin, but back loaded.

Yeah, I still can't believe it. I have been playing with it all day. It's a little glitchy; you can renounce FAs and then sign them with their bird rights intact. Once your team is over the cap it allows you to automatically sign using bird rights. Either way its an anazing tool.
Its especially good for seeing the FA crunch teams are in, assuming they want to avoid the tax. I think Rubio is a good candidate to pursue in a trade. Minny is paying DLo, Rubio,and Malik Beasley 60 million total. Just keeping the roster together and adding last years pick Bolmaro puts them at the luxury tax and 3 roster spots.
The Knicks want to add a starting PG but protect next seasons cap space. Rubio is an expuring contract. Minny needs depth so Knicks trade Vildoza, Knox, and a second round pick. Minny clears 10 million in cap space. They can use their full MLE without hitting the lux tax.
