How old is the author? 18?

Look at Wilt tenure with the Lakers and compare it with Shaq's. No, he got it right. Wilt shouldn't be on the Lakers Mt. Rushmore ahead of Shaq, who also didn't make it.

Wilt is the all time nba leader in rebounds and also has the only game of 100 points scored ever

But yeah everything is about rings right? If that’s the case Robert Horry and Steve Kerr should be on multiple teams’ Mount Rushmores

I interpret the Mr. Rushmore being what the player did when they played for a particular team. So for Wilt it's not his entire career accomplishments but what he accomplished strictly as a Laker.

If Wilt and Abdul Jabbar don’t do what they did in LA I doubt Shaq goes there in 1996

OK...not sure what that has to do with anything, but if you say so.

Only Knick to ever lead the league in PPG for the entire season

Entire season? while blowing out his knee... As Nalod said, kind of difficult to give BK a spot for two full seasons. And I love BK; if he had stayed healthy and was part of the Ewing years, things would most likely have been different.

Melo holds the record for most points at MSG by a Knick. He did what BK did, only for a longer period, with decidedly less playing next to him. BK did have Scott Hastings, though.

This is where you can't be a slave to stats, especially cumulative stats. I have always been more partial to short term greatness versus longer term goodness.

Melo did what King did? Did Melo ever average over 42 points per game (with a 60% fg percentage) for an entire playoff series? Did Melo every put up 44 pts/12 reb in a series deciding win or go home playoff game? Did Melo ever carry to team to a game 7 against an eventual world championship team who had four hall of famers (Bird, Parish, McHale, Dennis Johnson)? Actually, in both years King led us to the playoffs we were taken out by the eventual world champs. In 1983 we were swept by the Moses/Dr. J Sixers.

I'm sorry but I think King's 1984 season carries more weight than Melo's accumulation of points in mostly meaningless games. And this is coming from someone who is a not a Melo hater. You can certainly make a case for Melo, but I'm going with King.

Interesting, this is what I love about this board. You say not to be a slave to stats, but then you quote stats.

Was King ever close to being MVP of the league? Did King ever carry the dregs of the earth to the playoffs after pretty much a decade in the tank? (Please don't talk about IT and Starbles "Welcome back", it's painful to even think about that "era") Did King win a Division? Did King go to the playoffs more than twice? They both went to the playoffs, and lost in the semis. Overall, they did the same thing, even if King's first round wins were series of only best of 3 or 5.

And you're right, we could do this all day. And I guarantee you, I lived and died with BK's Knick teams.

IMHO, if you take the micro-approach of short-term greatness to it's nth degree, you could make a case for Lin being on the mountain.

Well if I just gave you a narrative why King should be ranked ahead of Melo you'd no doubt counter with stats, so doesn't leave much choice.

I gave you a narrative about Melo and you responded with STAT. That tells me all I need to know. Peace.

But just for fun, did King ever lead the team in assists?

So the team didn't reverse it's direction upon STAT's arrival? And nope, King never led the team in assist by .1 with an anemic 4.2 average, so you go me there. And yes I know, I dropped another stat on you!
