Knicks · Changing big man prospect to Jericho sims (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 6/26/2021 9:01 AM
The nba is an athletic league. I never heard of a 6-10 250 pound athlete with a 43 inch vertical. His physical attributes are Taylor made for nba. This guy was never on my radar but how can we look past his nba attributes. He was also the best big man in the combine pick up games. One reason I liked basset was his resemblance to Myles turner and that still holds but physically you move sims ahead of Bassey with target of pick 32
BRIGGS @ 6/26/2021 9:09 AM

Look at his changing defense on perimeter players

BRIGGS @ 6/26/2021 9:39 AM
I’d be happy with Bassey to. He’s actually has more of a balanced game than sims. I’m happy with Bassey or sims.

Bassey still a 23-15-4 player per 40 min in real games in college.

Looks good.

So many players who can contribute on nba teams in this draft. I don’t know how the Knicks can just trade up for 1 player. Better odds of us getting a serious contributor using all our picks and putting 5m on the books.

If we trade up they better be right about that player.

We also seem to do better with our late round picks than being in the lottery.

He looks like a definite starter. His D is phenomenal, what really stands out is the quick feet and especially how to turns his hips multiple times on one defensive possession. His offensive touch around the rim looks great, footwork looks solid and he has a nice variety of pump fakes and turn arounds right at the hoop where he looks in total control. What a find.

Who is that guy on his team wearing number 3? That guys looks like John Stockton in PNR with those Lazer passes

He looks like the best defensive player I’ve seen in this draft. They way he can guard perimeter players is a skill meant for the nba. He’s not the pure shot blocker bassey is but he may have more tangible nba sl defensive skills. On offense it’s somewhat plain Jane but it’s a forceful plain Jane plus showing some new advanced footwork w the dribble.6-11 250 with a43 inch vertical almost sounds like Tom chambers

I am just now realizing that Texas had Jericho Sims, Greg Brown and Kai Jones on their roster.

Prob why not of them starred. I think this guys the best. That combination of 250 pounds 7-4 wingspan and 43 inch vertical is insane. It will translate better to nba. Unlike the skinny as hell Jackson from Kentucky. This guy can play Tom

Yeah I was kind of thinking the same that all 3 maybe masked each other some. Kai did get some recognition but maybe that's just upside?

Listened to the Chad Ford podcast with Hollinger. Hollinger brought up some points about the combine. Point 1: Shuttle run is useless execpt for maybe small guards. Point 2: running certs like the 44 inches Sims recorded aren't generally as useful as standing certs. Point 3: +4> wingspan to height is ideal for NBA success. That said, Sims recorded 37 inch very, which is still impressive.

That guy has serious hops. His head is almost even with the rim on every dunk. Definitely looks like someone to take a flyer on.

I am guessing he has moved into the first round. I really like Greg Brown also. These are the kinds of guys that maybe don’t make the 10 man rotation their first year but are clearly athletic gym rats that will keep that hard working culture the Knicks are building around.

I love the possibilities this draft.

It’s a good draft to have 3 picks. I’m less inclined to package then for 1 when we might be able to get 3 very good players. As of now we have two alpha in Julius and rj. To sustain a proper balanced cap drafting and keeping salaried control players who help is important. That way we keep the space open for a star nba player

I think this year will be tough to identify who should be taken where (Covid)... so, yes, it is nice to have extra picks. That said, I think it might be more likely to pick the wrong guy this year. If the team identifies the guy they think will be a star, I personally would trade up and save the cap space.

That’s my feeling. Parking 3 guys from this talent pool, even if they are in the 11-15 slots of the rotation - there is a certain freedom to that to be able to take the more athletic, less skilled players.

BRIGGS @ 6/28/2021 12:26 AM
I’d like to hear others thoughts on Sims

A few things I like about him that I noticed that will translate well

1I really like the size legit 6-10 251 with long wingspan. His bounce is sick. He reminds me of Richaun Holmes

2. He is excellent at setting picks. If u watched our team — thins was big on picks. Sims is a big big guy who can set those picks but also has the speed to rile to the basket off those picks

3 defense — at 251 he’s big enough to body elite nba centers but he’s fast enough to switch on perimeter players— maybe the only guy in the draft with this elite in out defensive skill with his body weight

4 finishing. Probably very similar to what we already have in mitch. He’s gonna be a 65-% fg guy

5 athlete. Because he’s so big abd athletic. It’s possible he could transform into an elite nba big man if his skill progress over 3-4 years I think he has potential to give u what Holmes did this year 14-15/10-2-2 with potential first team defense caliber type skills other side

Chandler @ 6/28/2021 7:12 AM

I don’t know him but am suspicious. All this size and athleticism and he’s a senior and the first time he’s on radar is because of combine vertical

Any concerns with the looks like Tarzan plays like Jane meme?

Watch the tape
He doesn’t just guard the paint he’s very quick to change out effectively 4-1 he can guard anyone. That gives thins a weapon he can use.

I’m not the biggest fan of my big man who sits at the three point line and he doesn’t do that. He’s got good physical size abd bounce to use in the pick n roll. He connected at 80%. So he’s gotta work on the ft and 12-14 footer but everything else is there. No need to spend 10 mm on a back up center

He reminds me of Kenny Wooten if Kenny had just basic skills. Sims looks like he can face up a little and he has some wiggle in the post. But he is a project. I think more compelling prospects will drop, so why commit. Wait and see who else is available on the draft board.
