Knicks · Oubrey and Payne and Pray For Rain (page 1)

I'm thinking about possible scenarios and I'm leaning against overpaying for or trading for an older veteran. Adding Oubre and Payne, while retaining Bullock, Rose and possibly Noel makes us much better while not breaking the bank. Imagine them on our squad and also hitting on 2 or 3 of our draft picks. I believe that's how we should do it. What do you think?

Payne obviously had some good moments but I'm not sure he's the long or short term solution. Wouldn't mind having him on the team, just don't know if he's really a starter/30+ minutes per game type guy over 82 games. On the other end of the spectrum, I don't want to give up the type of assets that's floating around in the rumor mill to get Dame so I agree there.

Is Oubre worth what he thinks he can get on the open market? I don't think so. If he finds that he overestimated his value and we can get him on a short term/team friendly deal, I would consider it. But there are a bunch of other players I want the Knicks to pursue first before signing either Oubre or Payne.

What is the obsession with Oubrey? So many people want to add another non shooter to a team that needs shooters.

He can defend, drive, and pass, he's not just a one trick pony, his shooting is definitely a little on the ( JR Smith suspect style) but he does bring a little more than bullock or Burks in the length and Height game.

Payne as a low-cost reserve is decent. Oubre is like a swiss army knife in that he can do a little of everything - but agree with others that we really need to focus on adding players that are exceptional or at least very good shooters. Unless he improves his shooting and consistency, Oubre would be best as a 6th man on a contending team.

For me, its the athleticism and wingspan.

I don't think of 25-26 as particularly old in NBA terms and still think guys like Oubre have room to take another step. For Oubre, it comes down to price and mentality. Will he put the work in to improve his shot?

Looking back to his 19/20 season in Phoenix, he looked like he was ready to take that next step in a starting role. I don't think GSW appreciates the things he does well the way Thibs might.

I like him better at $14MM per than $20mm per. His $20mm per conversations sound like crazy talk to me. On a 2+1 contract like Randle's that can clear by the 2023 offseason, I am pretty interested to the extent we are building around Randle.
