Knicks · Knicks are most aggressive Collin Sexton suitor according to Shams (page 2)

Bottom line is we need a 1 2 or 3 that can get 20 points if we are going to win a playoff series…

But… not sure I like giving him that kinda contract.

that said, his 3pt% and ft% are higher than i thought and i may be coming around

Possibly, and maybe he’s not a PG… but I have absolutely no problem letting him be our starting SG. When the Hawks were tripling Randle, it really would have been nice to have a wing that could hit the three AND go downhill. But it also warrants mentioning that he might be a PG

Jimbo5 wrote:If Sexton will be the knicks 1st big move of the offseason and Kahwi becomes available and was able to sign with the knicks what can this starting line up do?

Sexton, RJ, Kahwi, Randle and Mitch.

Can this line up work?

It can absolutely work. I just don't see Kawhi as realistic. If we are being most realistic, Josh Hart is a realistic (slight) upgrade over Bullock that is likely under consideration. He's a RFA as well, but New Orleans won't try too hard to retain him. He's a defensive wing, only 26 years old, and is CAA.

C Robinson/ Gibson
PF Randle/ Love or Nance (in Sexton trade)
SF Barrett/ Bullock
SG Hart/ Quickley
PG Sexton/ Rose

I think this is a realistic rotation we are looking at when it's all said and done.

We can war with this

VDesai @ 7/13/2021 2:10 PM
An excellent scorer, but not much of a creator offensively. He is gonna get a huge contract- just not sure he's the right fit.
SupremeCommander @ 7/13/2021 2:12 PM
^ no problems with that xb

Personally, I really want
PG Graham
SG Sexton
SF RJ
PF Randle
C Chandler

But we see it similarly

How much better were the Knicks with an attack oriented PG (Rose)? I'm not sold Sexton is a PG but he would be a massive upgrade in our court

I am in this boat. I said dont trade these guys but when you are getting an foundation piece you have to roll the dice.

Sexton isnt perfect and has some warts starting with his defense BUT he's a really dynamic scorer. Can shoot, attack the paint, space the floor, drive and dish....

If the trade is as we are hearing like the above it will be fantastic. Sexton doesnt fit with Garland. This is a real buy low opportunity for us. He would be an exciting add

weird because I was just looking at both player's per36 and Sexton has high PPG, FTs, Assists, FG%.. like most everything

IQ is great. So far doesnt look like a PG tho... that being said I would be pretty happy with a Sexton/RJ/IQ rotation at the 1/2

i'd prefer to keep RJ at SG, where he can continue to use his size more effectively, bully ball, rebounding, overall length on D. putting him at SF is a mistake IMO

Wait a minute. In addition to trading all of those assets, we're going to have to pay him. A LOT!
Knixkik @ 7/13/2021 2:59 PM
I get the money, but you guys act like you are paying him out of your own pocket. Knicks are going to spend money and be over the cap within a year or two anyways. Everyone is getting overpaid today. If you are going to overpay, overpay for a young player who has potential to grow. Say what you want about Sexton, but his potential (especially outside of Cleveland) is big, and Thibs is probably the best possible coach to get the most out of him. Add to that Johnny Bryant and the player development, who has a nice track record with talented, scoring guards.

If the Knicks want Sexton for the long term, they can wait a year and then sign him to an offer sheet.

He's going to want a five year max contract and he's not worth that. To his credit, he's very aggressive, which is a change from pretty much all other Knicks players, except a few, for a very long time. He'll attack the cup and sweat equity isn't a problem. However he's ball dominant and it remains to be seen if he can mesh with Randle ( who also needs the ball in his hands all the time) and thrive.

Defensive liability. He's going to freeze other players out on the regular. Isn't looking to run an offense, is looking to be the entire offense but can't carry a team like a James Harden.

Can be useful, but depends on the cost and contract.

The Knicks can get some damn good players at 19 and 32.

Cleveland wants him gone because they have no desire to resign him. Meaning they won't match an offer sheet if they can't trade him. Garland is a better fit for what they are trying to do. That means Sexton is a rental and should only garner a rental's price.

I agree- you need to take a chance/gamble at some point, I have hope that Johnny Bryant can work with him and help make him a more winning player. No need to max him out now, see how he plays with us for a season and take it from there- at the very least he can be a nice sixth man type player.

+1
I'd add that you can't undervalue being a good teammate and unsure if he's a good fit. Wish they could interview him as a FA as his rep is pretty bad and we don't need any knuckleheads that think they deserve the max because they put up stats when their teammates dislike him.

TheGame @ 7/13/2021 4:02 PM
I like Sexton at $20 mill, don’t like him at $27.5 mil. Not sure he is a max player but he is going to demand max. I say pass. Resign Rose, draft a pg, and then hope Luca is for real.

Obi/Knox a 1 and a 2 is a great trade for us. I am not managing my whole roster so I can give an RFA an offer sheet a year later. He's an attacking guard who can also shoot it and Thibs has a good history with those and like aggressive players. I am really high on Obi and our FO's ability to draft but this is a great use of our assets. I see his value as similar to DRussel after the Nets without a history of being immature. Sexton is smaller but better IMO and has good value even if he's not a perfect fit here (assuming he remains healthy.

Sexton is a lead scorer. We dont really have that, but we do have the roster to benefit from it. You get to immediately put two burly 2-way guys next to him in Randle/RJ. Mitch will get more chances to block shots and we can put role players at the 3. Powell comes to mind. Maybe you bring back Bullock, Rose... whoever.

He's also great in the P&R and I could see he and Randle pounding you into submission nightly

I think at the right price (no IQ, no RJ) this is a fantastic fit for us

Uptown @ 7/13/2021 4:06 PM
If we can get a talent like Sexton for the packages being suggested, then it's a no-brainer. Not only is he an elite scorer but he did it efficiently, last year. If his game didn't have warts, then he wouldn't be available.

Keep in mind, Sexton is younger than Obi and is far from a finished product. Also, Sexton has played in the NBA for 3yrs and has already had 3 different coaches. Imagine if he is allowed to develop with a stable franchise and a stable coaching staff? (wait did I just mention the Knicks and stable in the same sentence). If he is available we need to buy low and tap into the untapped potential that I know is there.

this and Im REALLY curious to see what Thibs can do with a guy like this. Overachieving with Rose and ELF is great and cute but lets bring some real firepower to the table. Sexton is a legit blue chipper. If he's got another notch it puts us up there. A deal like this is as good a home run swing as you can take
