Knicks · I have a feeling Knicks are targeting Cam Thomas (page 1)

Thomas did not participate in the combine leading to most believing he had a promise. Given he’s repped by CAA the Knicks probably had early communication with him. He’s now had 3 private workouts (Knicks, hawks and Warriors.) seeing how Knicks pick 19 and 21 (for now) and he both cancelled his combine as well as being invited to the green room (top 20 or so get invited) I think the Knicks at 19 and 21 probably represent his floor. Now my guess is he wants to go higher and Knicks may have to package picks to move up. He’s a scoring guard and the Knicks need scoring. He can shoot and probably do more off the ball than he showed at LSU. He’s the type that can refine his game and be a top player from this draft. On the downside he can be developed as a future 6th man. On the high end he can become a starting SG who can create his own offense and play on or off the ball. He complements Quickley and Barrett pretty well. I think he’s one of the prospects where his outcome range is wide depending on where he lands.

The way the game is played today, most elite scorers get most of their buckets one-on-one or out of the pick n roll set (which most times lead to mismatches as most teams switch). I'm not sure if there is a better one-on-one, though shot maker in this draft than Thomas. He has range out to 30+ feet from the basket and is pretty good from the mid-range as well. Cam is a natural scorer who only passes out of necessity. The problem with Cam, though, is when his shot is off, he is not doing much else for his team.

I'd say Tre Mann is better creating his jumper off the dribble, but Cam is more physical at the rim. I'm not really a fan of Cam's game, but the talent is there.
