Knicks · Hoping to avoid Isiah Jackson rd 1 (page 1)

Thats one player Im not feeling. Hes smaller than M rob and hes raw. I can understand 32 if they go that route(i wouldnt) but not the top picks. I didnt see any raw centers running wild in the nba playoffs
Knixkik @ 7/22/2021 9:27 AM
In a league where trends matter, you're right. On the other hand, he's very similar to N Noel. If he develops a jumper he can be a low usage and efficient starting center for a long time. If i'm going with a big, i'll lean towards Garuba because he offers more versatility as a defender, and he has shown flashes of hitting an open three already. Basically he can be a center but still lean more on the small ball side. He can be like having a taller version of PJ Tucker out there. But again, that's if we are talking bigs with one of the firsts. I honestly don't see much at 32. Maybe Bassey or Sims, but based on recent mocks, both could be a slight reach and don't really offer much potential. But in terms of NBA ready backup centers, there's value in snagging a guy like that and signing him to one of those Mitch Robinson type 4 year low cost contracts. I'm still holding out that we address other needs in the draft first, or trade in a Sexton type deal. Lots of options, we will see what happens.

I’m actually intrigued by this kid - just love the bounce & effort he plays with. I kind of expect the Knicks to address more of their pg 7/or wing needs via veteran acquisitions and that they will grab 1 big in the draft.

Watching some clips of Jackson I see some flashes of offense that could be developed.

If we kept our picks I could be happy with something like Jackson (19), Cooper (21) and Boston (32)

Garuba has great feet and wing-span jumps out as well —- he is interesting even with very limited offensive game.

VDesai @ 7/22/2021 11:13 AM
Agreed, just too thin/unskilled. Obviously one would hope he turns into another Noel, but I don't see it right now.
Knicks should target a PG and wing with 19 and 21- the depth there is terrific, they will get a good player. I'd look at someone like Bassey around that 32nd pick.

Some times you draft a raw Thon Maker, some times you draft a raw Giannis Antetokounmpo.

I’m glad I read ahead. This is my thought exactly. And if you’re keeping 3 picks gambling on 1 is ok in my book

Quite frankly it should have read: Most of the times you draft a raw Thon Maker, every blue moon you draft a raw Giannis Antetokounmpo.

If I were interested in a raw prospect I’d want to know if he played soccer. I do t think their success is a coincidence

He would be an interesting developmental project behind Gibson. He could learn a lot from him. He's similar size but more versatile defensively. It's a weird comp, but he reminds me a lot of PJ Tucker when projecting out. He's much bigger and more of a shotblocker but just in terms of what his role could be on both ends of the floor and what his impact could be. Tucker from a few years ago.

VDesai @ 7/22/2021 6:24 PM
Garuba looks like a Clint Capela to me. I definitely think pairing him up with Taj as a mentor could yield a front court enforcer. He will be one of the players to watch in the Olympics for sure.

Briggs loves the post offense 7 footers from the 80's and 90's. While I appreciate their game, that type of Center is not ideal for this team. Rim protection and switching ability should be the foremost attributes you look for in a center and Jackson can provide that. If I was the GM I'd make a play for Myles Turner. His rim protection and outside shooting fits this team perfectly. His ability to stretch the floor would open the paint for Randle and RJ to work without the team playing 3 on 4 on the perimeter.

BigDaddyG @ 7/22/2021 9:27 PM
Jackson isn't any rawer than someone like Jericho Sims. Plus, he's three years younger. I agree that his positional value and current level of development probably doesn't warrant a first round pick. As far as I can see, there quite a few players with similar grades slotted for round 2.

Has the tool set to be a DPOY candidate. If he hits his ceiling, he's a matchup nightmare. Not a huge fan of his footwork. His fundamentals can stretch into the alarming category at times. Great tools, fuzzy skills.

If the Knicks were in a better talent/asset/roster position, this is the kind of player you can see a team taking a risk on, but they desperately need floor spacing wings and guys who are, at minimum, high floor projectible into a functional role.

Swishfm3 @ 7/23/2021 12:26 AM
Curious to know how many have actually watched game footage of Jackson or just going off scouting reports.

I for one would most definitely consider drafting Jackson if the plan is to move Robinson for another position of need. Jackson is capable of doing everything Robinson can defensively and is a much better offensive player.

You have to figure that the Knicks front office knows this guy better than anyone else so I trust that they will make the right decision. He also needs a defined role in Thibs system.

One of the most explosive athletes in this draft...Elite defender and shot-blocker and could be a really good pick and roll player if he had someone to set the table for him...

Mitch Rob shouldnt play a role in whether the Knicks draft Jackson. Even if the Knicks did move Mitch, it's unlikely this kid would be slotted in as starter anyway. Chances are that he'd be looking at extended G-League time.

I've watched him play plenty. He and Clarke looked like the most legit prospects for UK this season. Jackson is talented but he's raw. Also, I'm not sure he can do everything defensively Robinson can. But my main thing is that this roster 99 problems but center is really on of them. You can pick an adequate minutes clogger up in FA for relatively cheap. I have think there are better players available at positions of need the Knicks should consider with picks 19&21.

Yes there will be very skilled players at the wing and PG at 19 and 21 and the Knicks currently have no one to start at either position given the FA situation, whereas at worst we have Mitch at center and probably are the only team Taj wants to continue to play for.
