Rose/Vildoza/McBride
Barrett/IQ/Grimes
Fournier/Burks/Knox
Randle/Toppin
Robinson/Noel
Sims/Sims
Signing ability?
Room exception 4.9mm
7mm or so
Gibson on Vet Min
Versus 2021 Active Roster
Payton = Vildoza
Bullock = Fournier
Ntlikina = McBride
Pinson (2Way) = Grimes
Pelle = Sims (2way?)
Harper (2way)= Simms (2way?)
Knicks didn’t feel compelled to use all of their salary before the season. They have about 7mm left and the room exception with a bit of a shortage on bigs given Robinson’s health (walking boot?).
We lack a starting PG and depth in the front court.
Assume Gibson is our 3rd PF at the Vet min.
Who you got for $7mm for a PG and 4.9 for a 3rd center?
There are no PGs left?
Payton?
Can we find Mudiay? He would be perfect!
Not saying we have the money but:
Kendrick Nunn
Dennis Schroder
Spencer Dinwiddie
Victor Oladipo
Reggie Jackson
Jerian Grant?
Langston Galloway?
Very odd move by the FO. Going into free agency the knicks have 2 glaring needs. Starting pg and a starting wing. With 50M to spend its was reasonable for fans to expect both needs to be satisfied. Instead the FO fortified the bench and addressed the starting wing need.
The FO clearly knows something the we dont. Maybe they feel Obi, IQ, Luca, Grimes and McBride will play a major role in the knicks rotation next year. That is the only logical explanation i see with the moves the FO just made.

I’m stuck on starting PG. Unless Luca or Miles really looks like the real deal. The Robinson walking boot shook me a bit.
I am surprised by the raise for Burks. I liked him but find his skill set utterly replaceable.
Noel signing feels the same way, though I think Noel is more special.
I’m not excited by the roster updates though something special at PG can make it alright for me.
the one thing that might make sense- they think IQ can be a Derreck Rose type PG.
So- they have Rose, Vildoza, IQ and Burks as their PG rotation.
RJ/ Fournier as your SG/SF
Randle/Obi for PF
Noel, Robinson for C
That is 10 players right there.
Knox, the kids we drafted- they're all there to step in if any of those above them go down.

Vildoza is the wildcard for me.
Let’s Rock.. we will be competitive. Keep an eye on the proper trade if it becomes available.
Looking for improvement from Toppin and IQ
Time for RJ to be the man.. (full Robin mode)
Hoping grimes can be better than bullock in 2 years.
Intrigued to see what mcbride can do defensively and if his 3 percentage will translate.
Things to keep an eye on
If Randle is the real deal playing with fans present.
If Mitch is durable.

As in if he can step right in and contribute net positive minutes from the start or very early part of the season?
He would if we were San Antonio- they always seemed to find nuggets where no one else could.
Fingers crossed for sure, because the chance of Rose playing 82 games, 30+ minutes per are probably 0.

Lol 😁
I was only half kidding on Mudiay- I loved what he did his one good year here.
And he is getting another chance this summer with Portland:

Knicks must like what we have at PG - Rose, Vildoza, McBride and some bit of IQ and Burks. Its not terrible, but it felt like there were a lot of attainable young PG options.

The lower expectation analysis is whether Vildoza/McBride will be more productive than Payton/Ntlikina.
Payton had clear faults but he was not unproductive. He was just wildly inconsistent. His defense was very good. I don’t really want him as my starting pg, but as a third with the room exception some team will be getting good value.
My disappointment is that I don’t see the upside growth from this offseason. Where is the hope?

I agree, there isn't a lot of hope.
I guess the hope is that IQ, RJ & Robinson collectively and individually take big steps in performance.
Can IQ become an attacking PG? Can RJ continue and become more consistent? Can Robinson stay healthy and just develop/execute a Cambyesque mid range shot that keeps defenses honest and allows Robinson to average 10-14 pts a game.

The hope is that we jump out to a 7-2 start and we keep an eye on trades.
The hope is that Toppin iq and rj look more improved.
The hope is that grimes is better than bullock in 10 games.
The hope is that we have a drafted star already internally on the roster and that rj is a 20ppg player this year
Knicks are set everywhere except PG. Rose, 2 rookies (Vildoza and McBride) and Quickley as a combo guard just doesn't seem like enough experience for Thibs. I wonder if the Knicks are hedging their bets on Schroder having to come on a cheap deal with no obvious spot for him out there right now. However, maybe they just grab a backup and roll with it. Maybe they see Quickley emerging as the starter giving Fournier, Randle, and Barrett all having playmaking duties, and Rose and Burks as well.
They need to unleash the newer pups. Give iq the offensive green light.
The new pups have to look like commodities in the league to entice the better trades.
would have preferred we kept Reggie Bullock over Burks, basically same money but would guess that Bullocks agent wanted 12m using Dallas as leverage since they have less on tax
basic FA story of NYK's and agents using NYK as leverage, we have to pay more for FA's cause we have higher taxes "at least that is what agents will always argue since they get a cut out of it..."
I am not a salary cap expert but I am guessing we are waiting on Dennis Schroder *lakers would gain a trade exemption*, maybe Derozan
basically since we have early bird rights on Derrick Rose to go over the cap to sign Burks with FULL MLE delay
IF I AM RIGHT...
we would have around 17m right now plus we can dump Kevin Knox maybe even Toppin include them in a sign and trade or to a team to eat salary, it would add up to what Derrick Rose has said along with DS "projection to a 4year deal"
either that we can maybe play with the numbers a bit from some signings maybe even take back a bit from Fournier and/or Noel
pretty sure Lucas Vildozas non guaranteed salary would have been dropped under these FA signings already though we may still have Bi Annual Exception
think we would still have the Bi Annual Exception if so which we may use to
IF I AM WRONG then people should be fired for this off season alone *past 24 hours* with all the holes on our roster and the overpays in money and years
come to new york and work for Dolan get fired and rewarded with a bag rinse and repeat

Not a lot of ability to get big salary (over $10mm) this offseason unless one of Burks/Noel is actually a S&T or if they work out something with Boston to make that a S&T.
Sexton looks like the most salary cap efficient approach - but at the cost of Draft Picks. Curious if there is a move with GSW still coming for someone. Can’t believe GSW is paying that salary this year.
Kings appear to be wasting PG talent on the bench. Don’t really understand the Mitchell pick.
i am saying since we have Derrick Rose's early bird we can pay him to go over salary cap with his cap hold, in which would give us the full taxpayers MLE to sign Alec Burks (instead of using cap space for Burks we can use MLE after we resign Rose)
it is being reported that Rose's deal can be held since we have early bird rights and about 7m to spend
Rose's cap hold is right under 10m
if so
we should have about 17m in cap space to use and possibly more with contracts like Knox, Toppin, maybe Luca Vildoza's non guarantee deal
if this is not the case we scammed ourselves with these contracts in both money and years when we had 1year on these guys while needing 1 more year for early bird rights and we also had early bird on Reggie Bullock
horrible use of our cap space period
