Knicks · Kemba Walker coming home (page 4)

NYKMentality @ 8/4/2021 11:48 AM
Yooooo I'm so fired up and excited over KEMBA WALKER!

Dude has made the All-Star team 4 out of the previous 5 years (2016-2017-2018-2019) and even last year averaged 19.3 points and 4.9 assists!

He's going to make the All-Star team again next year while proving New York with NYC heart and grind!

SupremeCommander @ 8/4/2021 11:48 AM
This saved the offseason for me… can’t believe Kemba is here wow didn’t think that would’ve been possible

I really do not get the hate some of the fans seem to have on the Knicks off-season so far!
You will always be able to discuss the final money of a contract and discuss if Noel is overpayed etc. but the overall strategy is spot on I think!

We kept most of the parts on a team that performed quite well during reg-season last year.
Noel and Gibson were key parts of our defensive identity - especially after Mitch went down! I will NOT overrate Noel vs the Hawks cause it was clear that he was physically hampered by injuries late in the series.
Rose and Burks were brilliant and have a great spot and role on the team!

With those resignings we did not hamper the potential development of our youth and we kept the chemistry and strucutre/roles on the team!

Now EF does provide a great upgrade in one dimension which has been a glaring issue in the Hawks series vs what Bullock was able to provide - with EF and a also a scoring threat like Kemba at the PG position Young would NOT have been able to hide on defense for 95% of his time on the court. Which he did in the series... we discussed wearing him down on D more for the full series... now in this roster set-up he would not be able to save his energy on D!
EF is constantly on the move and is a scoring threat everywhere and Kemba - well I know he is on the downswing but just 3 years ago he was a 25PPG scorer with great shooting percentages during a 82 games season!

So yup I am really happy with what the FO did this off-season... not everything is perfect but hey its really a good strategy they follow and I REALLY like that they are constantly showing us that they are able to be creative and will literally turn every stone for improvement without doing "crazy" stuff!

PG: Derrick Rose.

Miles McBride will then be able to develop behind Derrick Rose for the next 2-3 years.

That roster is SICK!

I like that second unit. Fast break city.

Same here. This move completely came out of left field.

I was so disappointed after missing out on Lonzo Ball due to potential but now I'm estatic that we did because Kemba Walker is proven. 4x All-Star and in his NBA prime, proven!!

This is Interesting

Walker never considered the Knicks when he left Charlotte for Boston as a free agent in 2019 because his family felt playing in his hometown would create too many distractions, sources said at the time.

In fact, Walker’s family left New York for Charlotte when he became a Hornet.

But I love that starting 5 even more. All-Star (potential) city.

And Julius Randle now becomes an NBA MVP caliber candidate because now he's got an elite starting PG in KEMBA WALKER and last year Julius Randle at only 26 years old just became the first player to ever average over 20 points (24.1), 10 rebounds (10.2) and 5 assists (6.0) per game @ +.400% from 3PT (.411%) since Larry Bird's MVP season. And believe it or not but Julius Randle posted damn near identical numbers as MVP Jokić did.

The real winner is Mitchell Robinson. He's now got an in his prime explosive PG in KEMBA WALKER who's going to feast him.

I like this. Kemba at 8m per year is fantastic value. Now the onus is on Thibs to get these guys playing well so that we can finally use them later on for larger moves. Kemba and Fournier arn't great defenders tho but hopefully Thibs gets them to buy in.

Out:
Bullock: 10 pts 1.5 asts 60% TS
Payton: 10 pts 3.2 asts 48% ts

In:
Fournier: 17pts 3.4 asts 60% TS
Kemba: 19pts 5asts 56% TS

We practically almost double our scoring and assists output while keeping the same efficiency. A offseason by Leon Rose

martin @ 8/4/2021 12:08 PM
Man, Kemba was set to make $36M, $37.6M and we got him for $8M, $8M.

Holy hell! This is terrific!

Temper the expectations on the version of Kemba we're actually getting, but even a used Kemba is a gigantic leap from Elfrid. I admit, I was still a little uneasy that he could return...

It all starts with PG - can't wait to see the improvement this has on RJ's game specifically in the SL (and means more floor time with Rose for IQ and Obi).

Hey Martin my dude thanks for giving me another opportunity. My draft night disappointment was due to missing out on some of my favorite PGs specifically Lonzo Ball.

However this 4x All-Star Kemba Walker addition has me just as EXCITED as I was DISAPPOINTED on FA day #1!

Kemba Walker? A New York Knicks starting PG???!? Are you kidding me?!? Talk about Left Field!!

Maybe Walker does not come here if we had not signed Fournier. It looks like that enjoy playing together.

This move makes all the other moves make more sense. Our team is stacked. It is not quite a championship contender but we have a real shot at making it to ECF.

WTF? When I toyed with trade scenarios around him a couple of months ago, people told me he was trash. And convincingly so. What's changed?

His salary went from $36M to $8M.

At $8M it's a good deal. At $36M it would've been a disaster.

That same cheseburger you grab from a fastfood joint looks a whole lot better off the dollar menu than it does from Gordon Ramsey's restaurant for $20.

Dude, you are harshing my mellow. It's not about you.

franco12 @ 8/4/2021 12:35 PM
do we know what he gave up in his buyout? I usually thought any team that signs a player coming out of the buyout is just making up the difference, and why players are usually signed for vet min #s.

This does take the sting out of what I thought was an underwhelming off season.

Still, we have 2 PGs that are over 30 with a tone of mileage on their bodies with histories of being injured.
