Knicks · All eyes on Thibs now (page 1)

We may still be lacking a "true PG" but Leon really bolstered our roster with the additions of Fournier and Kemba. Our two biggest needs coming out of last season was scoring and playmaking and I feel like we did the best possible job of addressing that with the tools at our disposal. Not to mention, we added two very talented guys from the draft to develop as well as fill in our roster as injuries arise. If we come out next season running that same stagnant PnR, i'll be disappointed. Hopefully Thibs can be innovative enough offensively to get the best out of Kemba, Fournier, RJ, and Randle until Leon can pull off trade masterclass for a legit PG(Fox).
JesseDark @ 8/4/2021 1:54 PM
Looks like we have covered our two most glaring needs. I’d like them to bring in another veteran 3pt sniper. Maybe JJ Redick since he lives in the city.
Knixkik @ 8/4/2021 1:57 PM
The big thing is we now know we can score, but Thibs needs to make his team defense translatable to this roster. Losing Bullock and Payton, for all of their offensive warts, means the defensive talent does decrease slightly. I'd like to see them release Vildoza or trade Knox and use the 4.9 mil exception to add a defensive stopper. Someone that can be used in the Ntilikina role as a player that doesn't expect time but can be used in emergency situations only. Maybe even Ntilikina himself, but unlikely. Winslow is someone that intrigues me. He's CAA too.
ToddTT @ 8/4/2021 6:44 PM
The roster is improved. Let’s hope that means better rotations as well. Like not running guys into the ground.

I hope Obi earns more minutes, making that easier as well.

Yeah...you have to hope the minutes will be better spread out so everyone is fresh for a playoff run.

Maybe trading Luca,Mitch, Knox, trade exemption and picks for Myles turner.

Use the extra roster space to bring back frank and Pinson

Thibbs has got to do a better job managing minutes. No player on this team should play more than 32 minutes. Kemba should be at like 28 minutes and give Rose 20 minutes. Julius should be at 32 minutes, and give Obi 14 minutes. RJ should be at 32 minutes, and give IQ 18 minutes. Thibbs has got to stop running these guys into the ground.

That's going to be something to watch for sure. Thing is we have the depth now

On board with this. Strong second unit should drive less overall minutes for the starters. Also makes sense to see a few less minutes from JR to see what they have in Obi. Note that Thibs goes hard minutes with his goto guys in close games - so hoping he'll make better allowance adjustments in laughers/blowouts either way.

Yeah thats cute. What happens when Jules is your best player and Obi cant guard his guy and is launching bricks? What then? You stick with your "we need to better manage the minutes" mantra or do you put Jules back in to stop the bleeding and actually win the NBA game? Part of the reason he won COY is he had so few options. This year he's got more, but a reliable backup for Jules has yet to emerge (fingers crossed on Obi this year). Also having Kemba/Rose takes some scoring burden off him as well
Caseloads @ 8/5/2021 11:56 AM
not sure by what you mean regarding a "true" point guard. kemba is a true point guard (the definition of a NYC PG) and so is rose. how is fox any more of a PG than these guys?

Why are you obsessed with Frank and Pinson? These guys are just sentimental.

On the other hand, the hops Sims has are unreal. Hope he gets some burn. He will win the dunk contest easily this year. Sims looks Mitch and Obi look leadfooted.

I dont know much about what kind of worker Sims is but you are right he's an elite athlete by NBA standards and suddenly have pretty good scoring punch 1-4 so we can run with a guy like Sims (or Mitch) at the 5 just running the rim and crashing the boards

I have a feeling we may be selling at the deadline and thats a good thing because it means the staff believe in the kids. Imagine if Grimes and Sims are good young rotation guys and we are able to move Burks and Noel for more picks at the deadline? I like how our team drafts and if there is a FO who is going to find another Draymond or Jokic late it's Leon's crew.

You trade Luca right now, good luck trying to pull similar deals with other foreign players.

<snip>

How does Kemba Walker not count as a true PG? Over the past 6 seasons, He's been a top-5, top 10 PG. And even by the worst measures, he's a top-half starting PG in the league. It doesn't get much better than this. If anything, the main thing you ideally want is to know he can stay healthy and be there unhobbled.

His presence will make the Knicks play better. He's not as ball dominant as, let's say, Damien Lillard, so at least by that measure, he's a better match *if* your vision is to share the ball around (to Randle and to a lesser extent, RJ and now Fournier).

While I too like Fox (I've followed him a lot as he's part of a keeper fantasy league), he may not be an ideal "winner". Case in point, look at what Ja Morant has been able to do with a similarly (un)talented roster with 2 seasons less NBA experience. Fox is putting up some serious stats, but maybe he's a bit like Brandon Ingram at this phase of his career - big numbers, but it doesn't translate directly to wins. Some players seem to have developed a better feel of what's needed when it's needed.

gradyandrew @ 8/6/2021 9:16 PM
I'm not sure Thibs has ever coached a squad with this much depth. He should be comfortable playing 10 guys. I'm sure he's excited about it, should be a 48 minute blitz.
knicks1248 @ 8/6/2021 11:46 PM
This is thibs roster, Wes made the connect, leon made the deal to get the player, perry was the consultant on the players, Brock locked in th Numbers..
xavier @ 8/7/2021 9:43 AM
Yes, Thibs likes his main players to play a lot, but that doesn’t mean he always only plays “8 players”. Just remember the 2010-11 season when the Bulls finished 62-20 and as many as 11 players played 10+ minutes per game. Yes, there have been injuries, but there will always be. Rarely will a season pass without injuries to rotating players. Also, it is no coincidence that writing about the bench mob started.
