Knicks · The Elf now on the Suns Shelf Appreciation thread…….. (page 1)

Nalod @ 8/10/2021 1:42 PM

Who’s the PG who could not be replaced?
Elf…….
Who’s the cat that won’t cop out, when Frank and Dennnis were all about….
Elf…..
You damn right, they say this cat Elf is a bad mutha……
Shut your mouth……
But I’m talking about ELF…..
we can dig it……….
He’s a complicated player and nobody understands hm but his agent…..
Elfrid Payton…..

He came, they roll the balls out and he kept the job for two years.
From the smoke of Fiz he survived Thibs and was our PG to get us to the 4th seed. And he took a 50% pay cut to do so!!!

Appreciation is deserved. Happy he landed with Suns. 2nd stint with them actually. Happy we upgraded our roster beyond him. Win-win!!

I wish Mr. Payton the best. He should be a fine backup PG. He deserves better than what many New York "fans" gave him.

We deserved better. especially when he quit on the court during the end of the season. Good riddance

I think Thibs quit on him after the Rose trade because his minutes were getting less by the game.

"HE WAS WHO WE THOUGHT HE WAS"

Payton really hurt Frank's development last year in the last year Frank had a chance and the only year he had an actually good coach to develop him.
This really hurt us as we ended up getting nothing for Frank and could have gotten something for him in trade market.

Payton also hurt Quickley's development at the PG slot.
We may have lost a few more games, but we would be better for it as a team if we had not wasted those minutes on the Elfrid.

Thibs sat frank (maybe he played him all of 5 minutes) when both Rose (covid) and Payton (hamstring) were out.

You think frank was tearing it up in practice and thibs sat him...

You know what kind of Guard play thibs likes (downhill..see rose see kemba)

He hurt is own development by practicing in empty GYMS, refusing G league assignments, never requesting a trade

He hurt his development by not providing us video of him playing pickup?
LOL,

This thread is about Elf being part of the rotation over 72 games that contributed to our being the 4th seed and 10 games over .500.
My take is the team got better and his minutes declined because he did not. Was it he was depressed by his lack of time? I did not read that but some of you made assumptions.

As for him hurting Franks development? Let’s just say that even at its best it was bad timing of coaches, FO personal, and injuries over 4 years. Even some missed opportunities but fact he stuck because of his defense and thats not a bad thing.

With Thibs, you don’t lose games to develop. He plays rookies but they have to contribute even if its small minutes. Frank contributed his defense. Was it humiliating? Maybe, but that was at the end. Thats all he had in the eyes of his coach. Is he a PG? Is he arrogant? Stubborn? Too Passively French? All opinions based on what you see on tv or media.

We drafted and it he did not stick. Very common in the NBA. WOn’t be the last time it happens to the knicks.

HIs trade value was obviously not high enough or Knicks held out hope he would still improve. Maybe he did not fit our plans gong forward and not for the qualified offer. Perhaps he did not want to make less. Most likely he wants to play and will seek opportunity elsewhere. If its here or abroad we’ll find out.
