Knicks · If you could make one trade this offseason. (page 1)

EwingsGlass @ 8/21/2021 10:16 PM
If you could make one trade to upgrade this team using any of the following assets that are still tradeable, what would you do:

Barrett
Toppin
Vildoza
Knox
Robinson
Quickley

Walker/Rose/McBride/Vildoza
Barrett/Quickley/Grimes
Fournier/Burks/Knox
Randle/Toppin/Gibson
Robinson/Noel/Sims(2way)

Any future draft picks.

I note that Vildoza’s 3.3mm can be guaranteed and immediately traded. You could package Vildoza, Knox with draft picks for an upgrade at 125% of the outgoing salary — bringing back an 12mm player. The trade machines approve Terrence Ross, for instance, if you wanted a player to challenge Quickley for the instant offense role. Orlando now has a ton of PG/SG types.

What other moves could be made to get a higher end player?

unstopaball12 @ 8/21/2021 10:33 PM
The popular trade is Robinson, Knox,Vildoza for turner

If that does not materialize, I’d try to look to trade Knox and vlizdoza for an experienced 3/4 player.

KnickDanger @ 8/22/2021 2:37 AM
Yes garbage nobody wants for something good.
Jimbo5 @ 8/22/2021 3:06 AM
I would like to trade for Jaren Jackson jr. Not sure what assets would it take to unite him with his dad.

Money won't work. It would have to include Obi. Obi, Robinson, Knox, Vilidoza does

Problem as always is that anyone worth something will cost something greater in value. And as fans we are never willing to give up anything substantial. Can't say trading Knox, Vildosa plus one of our preferred young players will garnish someone that will considerably change our win total. Also think that our young core will play better by the team keeping it's young pieces together. Think familiarity creates chemistry. Especially among the young.

Really do think Rose has done a great job adding upgrades through FA and added talented young pieces. Excited to see how they do. Think unless a big name is available like DL, it's small 10 day stuff until the season gets going.

gradyandrew @ 8/22/2021 9:17 AM
I think the Knicks would have to guarantee Vildoza's contract to use it in a trade, but I'm not sure. Vildoza and Knox together could be traded for Dwight Powell. Dallas has 2 more seasons at 11 million for Powell. They don't play him with Porzingis so as long as he's there,Powell doesn't play. In exchange they get two young players on expiring deals.

The Knicks are still vulnerable in two spots in the rotation. An injury to Barrett and one two Randle. Offensively, enough guys can pick up the slack, but the Knicks lack an additional wing defender. 16the man Dwayne Bacon fits the bill. Behind Randle,Knicks lack dependle offense. Powell can deliver reliable scoring in the front court.

Nalod @ 8/22/2021 10:10 AM
Powell is talented but a bit of strong not always positive character from what I have read. Not a cancer mind you. If a SF, he is undersized.
We have Not sure who is the 3 or the 2, but Fornier and RJ exist there. backing is Burks and Grimes. I suppose if Knox is on the roster he is also.
Trading Kevin for a longer contract player who does not fit an immeadiate need does not really add up. WE are better giving him one more year to prove himself or trade him if there is value. If not, let him walk. It sucks but sometimes its the best move.
Vildoza either serves our needs and perhaps his career. If someone wants to trade for a pick and he is not useful then no doubt do that. We invited him to the party to play. If not then cut him lose and let him determine his own fate. Guaranteeing his contract for cap and then sending him to sit on another’s bench is not a good practice for future potential. Granted, he might be ok with that for a year.

I’m in agreement here. I want to see what thibs does with this roster. Plenty of upgrades all around and quite eager to see what we have in obi, quick, deuce, grimes and sims. Have really liked that FO seems to be most interested in giving their coach what he needs to make his system work

gradyandrew @ 8/22/2021 10:21 AM
Wing defense seems to be the biggest need but I feel pretty good about Bacon.

I don't get your logic about Vildoza. If he doesn't want to play in Dallas or wherever he can negotiate a buy out. I don't think anyone object to guaranteeing a Spanish journeymans contract.

For candidates I looked at two year expiring. Powell is a candidate because of the -coaching change.

Seem to be locks for the rotation. I'd say only Robinson and Topping are question marks. Gibson is a lock for a roster spot leaving 4 slots for Knox Grimes McBride Vildoza and Bacon. I think if you can trade a two for one and get better,go for it. The Knicks are all in for the next two seasons anyway.

Correct. Contract would have to be guaranteed.

I was looking at Orlando and thought there could be some action there. Jonathan Isaac for instance. His health would need to be confirmed. They have a lot of leftover players that might appear to be out of the rotation and a lot of youth. Older players like Terrence Ross might be available.

I dunno. Quickley seems to be able to shoot him self out of the rotation. The summer league comment from Thibs to him was that he wants him to shoot but he has to take the right shots. I could see them getting a vet to challenge him for that instant offense role.

Part of me hopes Knox comes to camp and steals Burks job. But I could see an incremental trade taking place.

No you’re thinking of Anakin. The Knicks are trading Knox for Anakin Skywalker.

A deal for Turner makes sense but I don’t see that happening. The answer has to be Jaren Jackson jr. he’s got so many ties to the organization and seems like Memphis isn’t fully committing to a plan nor to him. Maybe that changes soon but not until there’s an extension. He’s not quite the guy you go all in on, but you start with Toppin and Mitch and fill in what’s needed with picks. It just depends on how many. Maybe 2 1sts. But he’s that young, defensive big who can also shoot and raise the level at the center position beyond what it is now. He’s got durability issues similar to Mitch, but having Noel, Gibson and Sims here helps in that area.
jskinny35 @ 8/23/2021 12:29 AM
Will never happen and I realize very unpopular... but I would trade Randle for any of these 3 deals below

Randle, 2nd rounder and filler for Jaren Jackson Jr, Oturu and Pat Beverly

Randle and Knox for Buddy Hield and either Tyrese Haliburton or Davion Mitchell

Pipe Dream - Randle, 2 #1 picks and filler for Zion and Devonte Graham

wargames @ 8/23/2021 1:10 AM
Maybe spend a future first on Cam Reddish to try and make NY a better Zion landing spot

Thing is we would trade obi, Knox and Mitch for Jackson, but the grizzlies have 17 guaranteed contracts, they are trying to lessen also contrscts
