Not loving Fornier at the 3 defensively. Burks can fill that spot.
Im not counting on Rookies cracking the rotaton unless injury. Grimes can find minutes. How is his defense at this level? Obviously a long way to go until opening night and then there is injuries.
Knox can find some minutes at the 3?
I'm my mind, RJ was always a 3
I mean what do you think the difference between the 2/3 is in this offense or on this team?
RJ is moving into Bullock's role of guarding the best opposing scorer. Did you catch the game last night? Its preseason but things to watch include RJ's defense on Beal.
As for Knox he can shoot it but his defense is what got him out of the rotation and that looks par for the course.
It’s safe to say knox will find a spot in this league. His shot is legit and he has good nba size and athletism for his position which can be 3/4… defense as always needs to improve and he has to stay confident in himself and enjoy the game.
For those looking to trade him I would assess his value as 20-30 first round pick. He did average like 12 or 13 as a 18 year old getting starter minutes. I think at 22/23 he can give a team 15ppg easy.
RJ Barret managed to shoot 40 percent from 3 last year after starting off the season horribly from 3
He will easily be a plus 40 percent shooter this year if he can avoid going 2-18 to start the season.
Tremendous improvements in his 3 ball. I see 19ppg
I think they got Fournier to run two SG/SF combos out there with RJ. A few teams where this might be a matchup issue is the Pelicans who be a lot taller with Ingram and TM3 (though odds are extremely high we will only see them twice) and Atlanta who has a lot of taller wings. the Raptors two with a potential combo of OG and Barnes. Celtics could try to size down with a combo of Jaylen Brown and Tatum as the wings too…
Basically on paper it’s Good, but some teams will have height advantages. Flipside, Knicks might have a speed/maneuverability advantage with two guys who can put it on the floor and shoot. Miami went to the finals with a wing combo of Herro/Butler and it was more their Bigs not being great (and Lebron/AD being Lebron/AD) that did them in.
In today’s nba there really isn’t a difference between the 2 and 3 positions unless you are playing a PG or combo guard at the 2

We’re not getting anything for Knox the last 2 years have destroyed his value
I do think Knox would be a good fit with a team that runs a lot of full court press
RJ will be the primary wing defender on guys like Tatum and Beal. I think Randle matches up with DeRozan and Butler since those guys don't shoot 3's but we will see. I'm getting strong All Star vibes for RJ. I think Randle Fournier and Kemba will be feeding him a lot of shots. He seems to have added a foul line floater to his game. That pass to Taj vs the Wizards was awesome.

Most of their wings can’t play at once. I want to see how their best player (Trae) holds up against guards who will attack him all game and all series. Also offensive spacing where they don’t have the lack of space needed to flash double whenever Randle has the ball.

From the lowest common denominator Knox has no value as of last year. That is the popular assumption.
With a 8mm rookie contract he is not valuable enough to warrent a trade for a team looking for buckets.
What we are seeing is a few things this season:
1. Thibs is evolving. Players say he has a playful side and not stalking/yeling/too intense. IN chicago he was know to be holed up in his office during the summer, watch players working out then come down and get on them.
2. Remember when some of you were all knowing about OBI last year and how bad a defende he’d be the rest of his natural life and perhaps beyond? Thibs is complimenting his defense these days as improved. Now, that does not make him DPOY but its improvement.
3. Remember when we had Thibs pegged as one kind of coach? We are hoisting up 3’s like they are party favors and we having fun! Thibs is either coaching to who Leon/Perry want, or Thibs is (more likely) on board with ramping up the offense. Not in response to just ATL, but its part cuz its a good thing. Many of us scratching our asses thinking how is OBI gonna get minutes? I still don’t know but Thibs is running and gunning and OBI is that kind of player.
Lets not get ahead of ourselves. Pacers first game with new coach are likely not set with his defensive schemes and we looked real good. The Wiz? Also new ooach and early preseason.
Thibs has mostly his team returning and he being him has them prepared early. We might steal. Few games in the first month because of it.

I agree that Wings are Wings. Some of us get hung up on PG being pure to the position. team needs playmakers regardless at the position but needing someone to defend the position. Kemba will need help with some teams.
fact is nobody can defend straight up Trae young, curry, morant, etc.

I think we are going to see RJ take the next step this season. I know I’ll get killed for saying this but I see some Jordan in him. Similar size, frame, obviously Jordan is the GOAT but he had a killer instinct and drive that I also see in RJ. RJ doesn’t have Jordan’s speed or insane leaping ability but he is much stronger than Jordan was at the same age plus the left hand
No Knick benefited more from getting away from Fiz than RJ. His shooting form changed last season and it was night and day

That's not true, every player on the roster benefited from getting away from FIZ, especially RANDLE.
I need to see RJ taking over games like ALL Stars do. Hitting open shots is good, but he has to get to the point where he can't be guarded 1 on 1. When you start seeing double teams on RJ, that's when you know he has gotten to the next level.
I always thought watching last year we needed to shoot more 3s. From looking at box scores it always seems the teams that beat us had more 3 attempts.
(Not a fan of it but it’s a staple of the new modern game so we must all evolve)
With Kemba with the ball it seems Randle did not try to take the ball up court amd initiate the offense as much that first Pre season game? Did anyone notice this?
If you take more threes you have to up the pace. This is a different schematic. Lets see if it sticks in the regular season. Might be new for Thib as part of his evolution. RJ can stick it. Fornier can penetrate and kick it out. bullock had the range but not the handle. OBI is unleashed. We read Noel got a license to shot it. If he can, they will have to defend it.
Both RJ and Randle took big leaps last year long range.

Not a lot of distinction between 2/3 here in my eyes- RJ and Fournier are gonna defend whomever they match up the best with on the wing. On O, Fournier gonna shoot a bit more, RJ gonna slash a bit more- but the idea is you want them both to be secondary creators and shotmakers. RJ is a bit stronger so maybe he'll back to the basket more and nominally look more like a 3.

As a huge fan of RJ - this here is very true. He seems to have the desire, work ethic and one physical attribute (strength) that can help him take the next step. While his shooting has improved - I see his offensive development possibly similar to a Harden in that he has to be a lights out shooter to evolve into a higher level player. Harden is crafty and doesn't rely on quickness - more of change of pace and the fact that he's a threat from 35 feet and in. This season should be interesting to see how he performs as a 3 in that his matchups will likely be tougher/bigger/stronger. He has taken a big step last season so let's see what he adds this year with a stronger/deeper bench.
