Knicks · The next step for Obi... (page 1)

ToddTT @ 11/12/2021 9:45 PM
He needs to look Thibs in the eye and say...

"What. The. Fuck."

He's doing everything else he can do.

If we keep using him like this we should trade him. Underutilized.

BMart @ 11/12/2021 9:58 PM
The kid will be a star just not in NY. Any other coach and this wouldn’t be happening. Toppin shouldn’t start but he needs to play 20 minutes plus
franco12 @ 11/12/2021 10:05 PM
If Randle had played with Obi's energy, Thibs would have played him all 48.
TheGame @ 11/13/2021 12:26 PM
He needs to hit a 3 point shot before he starts talking about more minutes. I agree he is playing much better than last year. He gets his outside shot going, he will be something special.
Nalod @ 11/13/2021 3:23 PM
We need a rotation of three head coaches. Like what Steinbrenner used to do. But keep them on staff.
Sometimes you need Thibs, then a Mike MIller, then a young player friendly type. Sort of like Fiz. Personable, says the right stuff, fills the players with feel good shyt, take them to Disney, ets. Then bring back thibs.
Lather, Rinse, repeat.

Fans panic. We are fans.

Trade Randle for Simmons or Lillard at the deadline

Fiz was the worst NBA head coach I’ve ever seen and I lived through Isiah, Derek Fisher and watched Jerry Tarkanian in San Antonio literally forget he had games on certain days

I like Obi, but I'm trying not to get too enamoured as I don't really see how we don't up trading him
Pepper @ 11/14/2021 1:24 PM
Obi's next step is to develop a perimeter jumper and get more consistent with the 3-ball.

I think he is a better defender than people give him credit for. But he does tend to use his athleticism on defense vs. his IQ and needs to improve in that area. That will come with time.

TPercy @ 11/14/2021 1:52 PM
I like Toppin's growth but in my eyes he went from a g league player to an NBA player. Still lots of work to be done but signs are encouraging.
LinToFields @ 11/15/2021 7:46 AM
Obi was a dominant force against the Hawks in the playoffs, they had no answer for him. If he was the starter instead of Randle they win that series. He's a better player than Miles Bridges in my opinion and he dominated the Knicks.

No

jskinny35 @ 11/15/2021 3:58 PM
Love Obi's energy but we wouldn't have beaten the Hawks last season.
Vmart @ 11/16/2021 8:54 AM
This teams weakness is ball movement and player movement. How often do these guys just get the ball and shoot. They only pass in bailout situations. There is a lack of easy baskets. Obi is best as trade piece. Would love the Knicks to start dumping assets to build a better passing team around RJ and Randle. Simmons would be ideal for the Knicks. Send Fournier, Kemba and Obi for Simmons. These moves allows the Team to add a pass first sf in Simmons to go with a better balance of team. This allows Quickly to start. Barrett to his natural position. And he creates easy opportunities for Mitch and Randle. It’s a very smart move that makes the Knicks better overall team.

Its a smart move that you deemed as such? LOL………Actually I like it.
Not sure what obi brings as they have Tobias Harris. How does Evan fit for them long term? Could be good. Kemba you keep on the shelf healthy as long as you can for a playoff run. Not sure rosterwise how a 3 for one works. they are win now but I think could use a pick………
Love picks to smooth out any trade kinks!

Most classic trade “grades” start with “Who got the best player in return”? This unless team is in a rebuild. This is tough as Simmons is damaged but the concept is interesting as hell. We win that trade by that metric. Philly wants to win now and we give them nothing that makes them better. Obi at 24 still has upside but needs minutes to prove his worth. I love this guy but he needs to go to where he can get minutes. Maybe a convoluted CONCEPT like they move him to SAC for Buddy Heild and move either Milton or Maxey to SAC. Perhaps Bagley gets moved here as a dump and we bring him to the Duke/Kentucky home run by Kenny Payne and restore him as a back up. Change of scenery kind of shit fans love to promote. He is young was a high lottery, a dukie, simpatico with RJ, blah blah bhal. Oh, an throw in a conditional pick. Al this possible? Of course not. Funny to project Bringing in Simmons and Bagley and think it works out ok, but really its about beyond this seasons and its the kind of thing you have fun with. Simmons will need time on the couch and Bagley becomes our new Dennis smith jr.
Does Heild, Kemba and Evan make them better? Makes them deeper. I know there is money considerations Im leaving out. So did Vmart! LOL…….

I can’t see trading Kemba after the fanfare of him “coming home”. He’d have to really be on board and philly has to be seen as a true contender with this deal. Heild, Fournier, and Kemba for simmons?
I know some folk been spitballing “we need to trade randle”. I guess we forgot the work ethic and the “find a gyme when we land”. we fell out of love already? Ok, lets go back to Simmons and Bagley. If they need a path to reach potential, and Im not saying they can change, but in a vacuum they buy into it we have that culture. Fans are forgetting this wonderful aspect when the team struggles.

I doubt we do any of this but its fun!

Obi had back to back dunks against a good defensive pacers team with Myles Turner on the floor

I don't understand the love for Obi. He is better than last year but has taken a big step back from summer league where he showed an offensive game. He gets the ball and goes east-west or passes it right away. He needs to show a mid range game and also take it to the basket, be more aggresive. His outside shot looks bad again. He def is not ready to start.

Toppin is perpetual motion. Movin’ and groovin’.

Defenses have to actually work.

He deserves more minutes.

What Obi brings to the game is what’s missing in the starting lineup.

1. Transition buckets
2. Points in the paint
3. Increases the teams speed
4. Perpetual motion
5. Moves the ball
6. Young legs
7. Iron man as far as physical health
8. Brings joy to the game
9. Feeds the fans with infectious energy
10. Momentum swinging highlight dunks
11. Low salary hit
12. Unselfish

I wouldn’t trade obi. He’s the perfect type of player to play next to a high priced superstar.
