Knicks · We need to run passing/cutting/passing drills (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 12/24/2021 9:05 AM
Our movement on offense is awful. Dribble dribble dribble and either shoot or desperately pass. The ball moved better last year--what the HLL has happened to Julius Randle? Hes too happy with money in his pocket?
Evan Fourmier barely passes. We need more movement better passing and less dribbling
Nalod @ 12/24/2021 9:45 AM

Also dribbling drills. Maybe you can send them a book on how to do it?
Are you afraid if you don’t start a new thread we won’t see this?
Or that you hoping Thibs is here looking for helpful tips?
Vmart @ 12/24/2021 11:21 AM
Stagnation is Thib’s offense. You create stagnation when the you know ball is going into a certain players hand. You have multiple ball handlers on the floor yet you have the ball flowing through couple of players

It was a noticeable difference between washington and NY. Washington moved the ball to the open man side to side in and out. We dribble and iso. We need more movement cutting passing.

We need a new coach if you are looking for that.

Everyone wants to play like the Golden State Warriors but we don't have the personnel.
martin @ 12/24/2021 1:53 PM
It's weird, when everyone is healthy, Thibs somehow knows how to coach ball and player movement with the second unit but not the first.

TOTALLY strange that he chooses to do that.

Briggs after last night's game.

Kemba scores 44 last night, only 1 shot came off of an assist and we lost, completely freezes his teammates out

Currys scores 46 in a win last night and look how many come off of assist

now look at bullock and see how many of his shots come off of assist, big big shots in clutch moments

Panos @ 12/25/2021 3:47 PM
Thank God they ran those drills yesterday!

Agree with you. But do you think this is due to lack of practice? Or not the same system in place throughout the NBA? This league is full of offenses geared towards their best player. Iso heavy with some PnR mixed in. Their is a popular philosophy that if you put the ball in the hands of your best players and get out the way, your chances of scoring go up. Both due to that players ability or the double teams that arise from it. Some coaches/players actually believe that cuts only clog up the area where a drive may be headed. Some don't even like picks for that reason. Crazy right. But yet it is true.

Like I said, I agree with you and hate seeing this type of basketball but if you think it's something new in the NBA or it's not by design or that No other team is doing it, then you have not been watching NBA basketball.

It was clear yesterday that Thibs is okay with it. Or else he would have benched Randle one of the many times Randle had his side blinders on during the game.

You do know 90% of the offense for the Warriors is designed for Curry right? And that he is mostly a catch and shoot player? Therefore the catch part is associated with someone throwing him the ball.
Our best player is not a catch and shoot.

Agree that it would be nice to have more plays in there for guys like Kemba, EF, IQ, Burks. Most offenses are geared towards their best player. Unfortunately, our best player is a post or Iso heavy player.

VDesai @ 12/26/2021 2:01 PM
We got into a lot of bad habits offensively that we seemed to correct a bit against the Hawks. Guys are just not moving off the ball and we are content to either play 2 man or one on one. We got better looks at 3 against the Hawks.

Rainman don’t know highlight films don’t tell the whole story. Just the good parts!
And, its easy to use right? You see the films? They don’t lie. They just don’t tell the full story.

You think it has more to do the player of the system?

IMO Randle is receiving special treatment and not enough accountability.

Any time 1 player can do things that kill the momentum of a team like bad shot selection or back breaking turnovers, or playing half ass on defense and the coach says "WE" need to take better shots, or "WE" need to take better care of the ball, that's not holding one accountable.
