Knicks · Betcha Lakers would send Russ for Kemba/Burks/Fournier (page 1)

fishmike @ 12/30/2021 11:19 AM
Russ becomes the stopgap PG that Kemba was signed to be. Fournier is a mistake. Burks is great but I would rather lose finding out what Grimes, Knox or McBride could do with Burk's minutes than ride him to a play in or first round exit. We are not one player away, we dont really need veteran role players and we are not competing for a top seed. This opens time for the kids, and Russ is a spaz but still plays as hard as anyone in the league and you can use him in weird line ups.

Lakers get a 3 shooters to put around AD/Bron if they can ever get healthy and play together for a stretch.

NYKMentality @ 12/30/2021 11:29 AM
No thanks. Russell Westbrook is at the age of 33 is an absolute ball hog and would be a nightmare for the development of all of our younger kids.

And I honestly don't see any team trading for Kemba/Burks/Fournier. It would take IQ/Obi/RJ for any team to trade away a "star player" to N.Y.

Clean @ 12/30/2021 11:38 AM
I might think about it if its EF and Randle and some picks for Rus. Rus has less years on his contract and could enable us to reset faster. I would rather trade for Simmons when Philly recognizes they not getting a superstar for him.
Swishfm3 @ 12/30/2021 11:48 AM
Westbrook is a beast and would love to watch him play under the Knicks banner but...Although Ive been critical of Kemba (I had high expectations from him coming into the season)...I'm not ready to give up on him (or Fournier).

I think it can still work and view the Knick issues with the coaching staff more than the players.

Watched a lot of games back when he was playing with you know who in OKC and in Houston. The biggest negative about Russ was his Bball IQ. Lacking at times, especially in close games. He also lacks a consistent outside shot that is needed when he is competing against top-tier teams. Especially in playoffs. Watched other teams back up and let him shoot on many occasions. His age and salary do not help either.

Don't get me wrong. I love his athleticism, motor and will to compete. . The guy is an energizer bunny. 100% at all times. Also, think he is best suited on a team that has no other real number one options on offense. Think the package mentioned would be a pass for me. But if it happened I would be the first to buy a ticket to the show.

Philc1 @ 12/30/2021 1:14 PM
Would rather just keep Kemba
knicks1248 @ 12/30/2021 1:15 PM
Tank mode IDEA already.

Don't we have the same record as the LAKERs.

So Westbrook can help us but he can't help the Lakers...No thanks to 26% 3 pointing shooting

agree he makes a poor floor general. Its a stop gap 1.5 year commitment to a guy who still plays at a pace few to none can match in the league and I think Thibs would be good with that. It would be at least fun while we get another draft and year to see how ready and good some of the young players are. By that time Quickly might have totally entrenched himself as PG of the future. Or McBride. Or none of them and we look to sell...

Cant say I love it, but I think it solves some problems (Kemba/EF) and opens up minutes for Grimes/McBride who *may* be ready to break out and take bigger roles

KnickDanger @ 12/30/2021 5:50 PM
Oh man I can envision the pure hate that would emanate for Westbrook here. But he's quite lovable when you envision trading your current whipping boys for him!
jskinny35 @ 12/30/2021 6:04 PM
Betcha we would regret Westbrook on this roster

Yup. He's the definition of both a ballhog and a stats padder. He's also a turnover machine.

33 years old and Knicks fans want to trade for him and right before his athleticism begins to decline big time?

Funny.

For the first time we can say we would be over paying. I know salary implications are involved but I wouldn’t part with a second round pick for Westbrook.

SupremeCommander @ 12/30/2021 7:43 PM
I don’t think Westbrook is the right fit here but I mean he would make us better, no doubt

Westbrook is available because he’s struggling taking a back seat

I would prefer using the cap space differently, that says, I see the temptation… the wizards were trash last year and look what he did there

True. Would just be nervous about giving up three 3pt shooters. As that is what we all said was needed last year. Guess Kemba would be okay. But who else besides EF and Burks would they take? Would think they would want some youth.
Do you think Lakers try to dump his salary by deadline?

Btw, Have you seen how Monk has been doing well with them? I did not think he would recover from first couple of years.

martin @ 12/30/2021 8:48 PM
Russ took a 15' jumpshot last night that accidentally hit the top of the backboard. As far as jumpers go, he is Frank

Westbrook's decision-making is atrocious...He's almost useless without the ball, similar to Randle so I don't think either can play off of each other. His lack of shooting will shrink the floor for his teammates as well. It's frustrating watching Randle this year; it will be infuriating watching Westbrook and Randle take turns making one boneheaded turnover after the next. I get the idea of trading for Westbrook is to rectify a mistake and get more mins for our young players....but let's be honest, Evan wasn't the only mistake this front office made this summer.

He has 2 years left on his current deal including this year.

Westbrook together with Randle doesn't fit at all and would be a total nightmare.

why would you trade 3 shooters for a player who can't shoot in a league where shooting is a must..

Especially for a player who takes up damn near half of your cap space. This has got to be the dumbest trade proposal I ever heard.

The knicks are going to be playoff contenders until the last week of the season, along with 14 other teams in the east.

WESTBROOK and CP3 were so available the last 2 seasons and Leon showed no interest in WB, and mild interest in CP.

Thibs loves Burk so much he started him a PG, and agreed 100% to resign him as opposed to Bullock.

The franchise knows that Losing teams don't attract big name FA, losing with young players is not good for development and culture..cmon man, get real

blkexec @ 12/31/2021 12:11 PM
At this point Russ is better as a 6th man than a lead guard. I watched him lately and most of my close friends are laker fans. They no longer hate on Russ and understand his value is his energy that spreads to the rest of the team. Yes he makes mistakes, but when he’s attacking and decisive he’s tough to guard. But again I don’t think he helps us as a starter. Not when grimes and duece has earned more playing time. And Russ coming off the bench is not a happy Russ right now.

At this point we would be playing with fire if we add Russ to our development era. I hate to say this but an older Russ who understands he’s a bench player is better for the team and less of a cap hit. The current Russ wants to start, wants to win a ring, and consumes most of the cap space. I don’t think the Knicks are a prime location for the current Russ. There’s other teams that can add him and potentially win a chip like the lakers or warriors.

fitzfarm @ 12/31/2021 2:16 PM
The question you really need to ask is why the heck would we do that? The Lakers couldn’t trade Russ for a bag of peanuts right now. Maybe a 2045 second round pick and the lakers are still responsible for paying his salary . Then I might think about it, laugh and hang up the phone. Russ is terrible, you’d literally have to pay a team to take him off the lakers hands .
