Knicks · In the future I’d target bigger players like the Raptors did (page 1)

And I’m also interested in the 5 position for guys who have a full game. I don’t mind one cheap rim running center( maybe sims If we sign him to a 3 year 1 mm per contract)

I want to look at 6-7—7-1 players who have diverse games. You can’t just draft and sign role players. We can’t draft or sign a guy because he slots into thibs system. We have a lack of size and talent.

We get snookered by the occasional good game by a Burks or Barrett Fournier — but they have been drastically inconsistent. I think Barrett is somewhat undersized for the 3— I never seen a guy get his shot nipped back at him so much

We may need a shift in ideology here. It’s not to late y to o reverse course.

Drafting Obi was not drafting by position.
I suppose until we start drafting “keepers” your comment is relevant.
Knox is not small. Frank was not either. They are just not rotational guys.
OBI is big. McBride is a thick kid for PG. Lowrey type build.
RJ was the best player available at that spot.
I don’t see us drafting by position.
Toronto doing a good job drafting good athletes. Siakim a bit of an issue with that contract.
Barnes was a good pick that scouts saw him as a good pro. They took him over Suggs who is smooth but not physically big.
Your also looking at at team that has been under Ujiri now for some time and has a process and we can see the rebuild. Leon is in season two and I think is extracting small value plays but we have yet to see over time what Ujiri did. We have picks still, and its obivious Aller makes small moves to gain small things.

I would settle with targeting players who can hit an open short. Every team zones us because we can't hit an open shot to save our lives. That OKC game will forever be burned into my head with how many wide open shots we bricked. Most were not even close to going in.

They spent 17mm per in fa and our 1st rd draft pick two years in a row on 3 point shooting.

Then all of that was wasted money because we clearly can't hit open shots. All we have are streaky players. They will go periods of time hitting shots but none can do it consistently. It's so bad we can barely have 1 game where 2 of them get hot. Look how much time both Randle and RJ gets and it took all this time for both to have 30pts in the same game. Quick is streaky. EF is streaky. Burks is Streaky etc

The best way to tell your weakness is by the strategy other teams use to beat you. From last year the number 1 strategy against us is zone. If we have a chance to win then is determined by how many streaky players get hot during the game. If the number is 0 it's a blowout. If its 1 we might keep it close. If it's 2 or 1 player gets really hot we can win if we decide to play defense that game.

i don't think it's necessarily bigger players, but rather those with freakish arm span.

Yep. IQ and Duece have around 6'9". wingspans and RJ has a 6'10" wingspan. These measurements slightly vary by source, buy their still fine for their respective positions. I still think the team could use that 6'8" combo forward. Dan House would've been perfect.

One thing I certainly want is to improve the 5. It’s nice to throw it into the post and have someone get an easier 2. I’m a seller/ trader on mitch — certainly I’ve gone back and forth on it— but I’m not giving Robinson 16-18 mm and Noel 13 mm. I want a two way center from now on.

This.

We need guys who can hit from the perimeter at a high percentage.

We also need a PG. And stretch center. Then there is Donovan Mitchell. Supposedly he wants to play for a bigger market

The Knicks have drafted IQ, McBride, Grimes in the last 2 years. Not only do they shoot very well and have the potential to shoot even better, they are all PoA defenders.

I think Obi has a lot of potential as a 3pt and mid range shooter. Something a bit off with his shot but the right parts are all there

Well…if it’s up to Briggs he will pass on Donovan for grant who is tall and has long arms. Even though grant is a good 2 way player he’s also very streaky.

Like someone said, we need more consistency type players, especially with shooting. But we also just need better players. I don’t think we have the luxury to turn down talent. And this team needs more talented players. For example grant may have an inconsistent jumper, but his 2 way game and ability to get to the rim is high. That also helps against a zone.

A starting center will help. Mitch looks like a solid backup. We need a center who has an offensive game. Not as extreme as turner who hangs around the 3 pt line. But a smart big with a post up or mid range game.
