Knicks · If I was coaching I’d put Randle at 5 (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 1/27/2022 9:05 AM
And I wouod enforce him to use his size athletic ability down low. That would allow me to bring a ball mover into starting line up. Also expand obi minutes off bench. Our centers are not diverse enough

What about defense? or do you think Randle at the 5 will promote enough offense to overcome not having a rim protector?

Our PGs can't stop anybody....So Mitch was our last line of defense. Remove Mitch and now the lanes will be wide open. Which will eventually open up 3s, since the team would have to colapse into the paint and help out on defense. Well, guess what, we suck at guarding the 3 as well. So the offense would have to score at an all time high every game.

Meanwhile Rokas is making some noise in the headlines. Just a glimmer of hope.

Trade for Myles Turner. Solves everything regarding this topic.

I heard on the radio, with someone looking at our starting roster and they said, with Noel in for Mitch, the starting 5 goes from a -15 to a +17. Not sure how the hell they do that, but lets say thats a good analysis tool they have. Then I can definitely see Turner providing a positive impact on wins vs losses. Unfortunately, he's now entering damaged goods territory.

That sample size can't be that large.
Philc1 @ 1/27/2022 9:30 PM
Easy fix to this situation is to give Obi some additional minutes at the 5

Last season was confirmation.

Mitch is one of the biggest reason why we are a slow team that takes 3's and mid range shots. No team in the NBA has their center planted in the paint waiting for missed shots.

The next game you watch pay attention to the opposing team when they are on offense, the paint is always open 97%.

Even though Noel is not much of a jumper shooter, he still position himself out of the paint, he doesn't play with the sole purpose of getting offensive boards and put backs, he plays a much smatter game than mitch.

I'm willing to bet anyone $1000000000000000000000 that with out mitch in that SL, Randle at the 5, we are a better team by a LOOOOOOONG Shot.

Thibs and is rim protection mentality is disgusting, because everyone is shooting 3's, and using a million screens on the perimeter,

Randle at the 5 would be a disaster. Ever see him trying to defend when Mitchell gets pulled out of the paint? No thank you.

Totally agree, Mitch is overrated here. He’s a bigger cancer to our offense than Randle imo.

And Noel is way better than him defensively and has a baby jumper.

I would trade Mitch before the deadline, if I was in charge. Him and Randle are a horrible fit unless Randle shoots 3’s at the same clip as last season.

Look at the Bucks, they surround Giannis with Bobby Portis and Brook Lopez at Center. They can shoot from anywhere on the court. If Randle gets doubled, he already knows he can’t pass to Mitch/Noel/Taj because all they can do is dunk lol.

Bam Had 11 assist in the last game

Mitch has 20 total assist in 45 games

Mitch plays perimeter defense with his arms, never plays up on screens on the perimeter, he falls back and puts his hands up with the shooter 5 feet away giving them a good look at a 3.

When mitch gives a Pick, he doesn't stay on the perimeter to give the ball handler a chance at beating his man to the rim, no.. he rolls to the rim with the ball handler almost getting right in his path to the basket, he does this 100% of the time he is on the court.

Anybody he sets a pick or screen for will end up

1) taking an awkward jumper
2) an awkward floater
3) making a last minute pass out
4) or turn the ball other

He has about a 2% chance of getting an ally oop or a dish because the spacing is laughable.

For the life of me, I can't understand how your looking a FILM every fckng day and come back and do the same dumb sht

Yes, this is exactly what we need, Randle at the 5. Every other possession ending with an opponent's dunk and Randle standing there glaring at everyone else. When they're not hitting open threes of course.

nobody on this board can name more than 5 starting centers off the top of their head

Embiid
Jokic
KAT
myles
Bam

Randle would have issues maybe guarding the TOP 3

When you need change you look outside the box. Gs center is Kevin looney— an easy guard for Randle but wouod open up Julius around the court—and you can bring in a ball mover. The middle draws open with mitch out.

I personally prefer a 5 man but one that can play basketball. Not just run jump

jskinny35 @ 1/28/2022 1:52 PM
Randle at the 5 for a few minutes here and there could work somewhat - but against starting Centers he would be abused even worse than he is when he guards PFs... and - whatever is left of our team defense would fall apart. For all of Mitch's flaws/limits - he's long and can rotate faster then Randle.
Nalod @ 1/28/2022 2:03 PM
So we all now bow down and admit BroPez is cool?
He was a soft NET, but now he all good!

I get it. IM all for change and getting “more”.
Im not surprised or gonna if we move on from Mitch.
My focus would be on how to enhance Randle than just extract him and think plugging in OBi solves it all.

Would suns think they can win a chip with Mitch and Obi in place of Ayton? Of course I add a pick or two as that is not enough. For that matter throw in Burks But we’d have to insist on Elf in return. All things lead to Elf! LOL

I can roll with Randle, Ayton and RJ. Im not against moving RJ to the 2 again and playing Redish at the 3.
I know that does not solve our PG issue but I have to consider PHX and their goals.

Please don't associate fast with mitch's name in the same sentence.

watch how he plays defense, bent over as if he's about to tie his shoes, he's always hunch over like he's tired..lol
