Knicks · Should the Knicks trade for Derrick White? (page 1)

Hello,
While I rarely post anything here, as a Knick fan I have followed UK.com for years and read a lot of the post on most days.

Lately, I have being thinking about an attainable point guard that can complement our players without sacrificing the defense and fit the coach philosophy as well. And I think a guy like Derrick White from San Antonio maybe a good fit.

Maybe even better than Jalen Brunson considering the size, defense and length of Derrick White.

But I want to get your opinion, do you think trading for Derrick White make sense for the Knicks? Is he a player the Knicks front office should consider? What about Walker and two second rounders for Derrick White, Will San Antonio do it?

Why would SAS want Kemba Walker? Does it make sense for them?

We need to match salaries and Kemba has only one more year. The trade would basically be White for two second rounders.
Since San Antonio is loaded with guards, maybe they would consider it, I think.

White could be a nice fit here but I don't see S.A. taking that package.

White for Randle works if they add one of their too many SG’s

Lonnie walker
Primo
Keon
Vassell

It just takes one and the math works.

I would like Murray better

A lot of teams would, lol.

I think White is more realistic (especially with Vassell and Primo on the Spurs depth chart) but I don't think he's the floor general the Knicks need.

Knicks might as well just start Quickly at the one....which they should

He's on a value contract which is San Antonio's m.o. I still think there's bad blood because of the Marcus Morris signing.

I don't think there is any floor general available right now, at least not one in their prime. Most of the available point guards are really scoring guard. And while I do love Quickly and would love for him to start, at this stage of their career, Derick White's defense is much superior and may complement Fournier's lack of defense much better.

I agree with you there.

The only other issue I have is that White is still a "young" player in this league and may not have the clout or the assertiveness needed to run a team. The more I think about it, as long as Thibs is here (and Randle to a certain extent), the Knicks need a veteran PG that is not afraid to take the ball away from the "star" player and be able to call an audible on the court

That was a whole different FO regime last time they met everybody was hugging. I wish that made this trade more likely, it doesn’t though.

How about Randle, Burks, and McBride for White and Young?

Scott Perry got fired?

My reasoning is that during the draft the Knicks we're desperate to trade up to grab Duarte. San Antonio used their pick on Primo who was pegged as a late 1st round pick. Duarte went next to Indiana. It's likely Primo won't still be available at 17 or whatever the Knicks pick was. So SA basically passed on an asset just because.

I don’t think we know that, they could have just preferred not risking him not being there. Also I think we had pick #19 and might have got the better player Grimes at 25.
