Knicks · IQ IS NOT THAT GOOD (page 2)

Nalod @ 2/8/2022 1:10 PM
I thought Thibs does not play/develop yoot?
When IQ gets run like that its exactly what is happening at that moment.
When Randle is doing new shit and missing, its development.
When OBI can't stay on the court and hit an open shot, its development.

When your 1248 you buy stocks after they go up and then boast about the track record.

SupremeCommander @ 2/8/2022 1:14 PM
I think this post is all wrong for a bunch of different reasons...

... that said, IQ is having a garbage year

The whole team has suffered too because of it. And lack of production from Kemba

I agree quick is a Lou Williams type .. we need to keep him in that role

color man? I believe you're telling your age with that statement. Maybe I'm reading it wrong.

I reframe from labeling a player so early. I understand the comparisons, but it's too early to put him in a box. He's a momentum changing guard who can score in bunches and break down a defense with floaters and playmaking. What is IQ? I don't know. What label should he wear? Who knows. Right now we have multiple players learning on the job, and thats never good. Randle learning to be #1. IQ learning to be a PG along with Burks. Lou Williams is not a PG but his size couldve forced him to play PG. Good thing for Lou he's a dynamic scorer. EF for example is more than a catch and shoot guard. I was wrong for comparing him to bullock, they are different. I'm curious what IQ wants. Right now he's doing whatever coach ask, because hes still young and just entering the NBA with only 1 full season of experience. He just wants to get better at his current role. Part time PG and Part time scorer.

I will say, there are other PGs available that can impact the team better than IQ has as a PG. But that doesn't mean he will never become a PG at some point in the future. He's a hard worker and RJ shows you how hard work pays off during the off season. IQ can learn to play PG and could be a good one. Right now it's easy to say he's a SG because thats what he did in college. But thats not always the case for everybody. This team needs both. A PG and a Playmaker off the bench. IQ provides both and is ask to do both under thibs. At this rate, IQ will continue to perfect that balance between PG and off guard scoring. Lou Williams didn't have Thibs as a coach and PG maybe wasn't a need at the time he was developed, so now we are looking at a finished product in Lou Williams. So after a few more years of experience, they may end up being two different players or the same (nobody knows). Thats why I hate putting players in a box so early. Obi would look so different, if Randle wasn't on the team or under a different west coach up and down style of play. So we don't know what Obi will or could look like on a different team or in a different system. Mike Dan Toni could've made IQ look like the perfect PG, who knows. He turned Lin into a world wide superstar for a few months. The coach and system has a lot of control of the outcome of your nba career.

right. they used to call one guy play by play, e.g., Breen, and the color man added color, e.g., Tommy Heinsohn talking all about the tricks of the trade, personalities etc.

Don't they use those terms anymore?

Sorry if it came off in some other way

1248 sees his MitchRob as replacement for Frankie not working out, so we need a new Frankie -- IQ! It's a new channel for a new season!

So IQ is not THAT GOOD. How good is IQ supposed to be? They were freaking making a logo out of him last season! And looky looky he's in a sophomore slump! Imagine that!

NYKMentality @ 2/8/2022 3:29 PM
Is it that IQ is "no good" or is it because he's only a 2nd year player?

The reason IQ is in a slump is because they changed his role.

Go look at all of his good games from college to the pro's, he played well off the ball. Now he comes to the pro's, hasn't even mastered what he's good at, and your already trying to get him to do other sht like run a team...Thats poor development.

when Randle came here i thought fizdale had lost his god damn mind trying too make Randle a Point FWD, a position he never ever played, with players he never played with, in a system he never played in, and he had a horrible season...

With todays Technology and the way scouting works, teams will pick your weakness apart in the matter of 1 qtr...and when the defense adjust IQ done and THIBS pulls him from the game

Coaches have FCKNG lap tops on the side line now...ARE YOU KIDDING ME

Put IQ in a role he can be successful..

Trade for real PG and stop being CHEAP

Immanuel Quickley is only a 2nd year developing player and getting paid $10,803,948 over 4 years ($2.7M per season).

Evan Fournier is an NBA veteran with 10 years of atrocious Defense while getting paid $73,000,000 over 4 years ($18.2M per season).

Not sure what type of point you're trying to prove while mentioning Evan Fournier's name within the same sentence as an extremely young 2nd year Immanuel Quickley?

Maybe you can enlighten us?

He's still only a 2nd year player ("R.J. Barrett" or not).

So my question remains the same:

Is it that IQ is "no good" or is it because he's only a 2nd year player and still only developing?

And speaking of R.J. Barrett I remember creating a thread about him many of weeks ago while emphasizing how awesome of an NBA prospect and talent this kid truly is and all while fans were considering him as "not being good".

He's proved them wrong.

or we just that bad at drafting,

drafting has been horrendous

Philc1 @ 2/8/2022 11:21 PM
Disagree. The problem is Thibs ruined him making him a full time PG

Ditto for Burks

Basically this. Quickley does not look comfortable out there at all running the point 20-25 minutes per game

Why not play McBride and let IQ play his natural position at SG? Don’t know

What about RJ, Mitch and Grimes development? You can't have it both ways.

actually let's go to the root cause which was the failure of the front office to properly address the PG position in the off season.

Signing Kemba, Rose & Fournier was a mistake. There was a whole lot of wishful thinking with those moves.

I don't have a problem with Rose & Kemba, but there should have been an effort to find another PG that could fill in, other than Burks or IQ. Heck, had they kept Payton things might be better. My favorite trash player Mudiay is still available. Langston Galloway was out there.

or they can actually give McBride a chance. 1 or 2 bad games after coming back from COVID and his chances were done for the season. Chances that he would have never got if it was not for COVID in the 1st place.
