Knicks · Knicks adding to FO? (Knicks hire Gersson Rosas as Consultant) (page 2)

Bring in experts but only when the perception of the timing looks good?

Whatever it takes, I’m done with the second guessing. Let’s get something done before the deadline. If this guy gets it done, then great move. WWW and Rose are smart enough to know when to ask for help.

Smart people always recognize when they require more expertise or specialized expertise and hire other smart people when they feel there is a need?
There is nothing special about this.
What do you expect to hear here?

To put it Blunt, Perry sucks, and Leon is new to this business
Think about this
we couldn't make a trade with 30 mill in available cap space to take on any contract in the NBA all last yr.
We couldn't even make a trade with 7 expiring contracts on the roster the yr before last.
We couldn't even get a 2nd round pick for frank on an expiring contract, just let him walk.
I don't understand why your defending this FO when they just built a "play in game" contender after blowing 70 million in cap room (the most in the NBA) Perry's 2nd time in 3 yrs with that much cap space.
Both Walsh and Phil flipped the entire roster like most new presidents would do.
Leon Made minor changes as if we were coming of a title

These are good points. I think I said this yesterday but Perry and the Knicks getting caught unaware about the Tyrese trade is a joke. Especially since Perry has connections to that FO. Yeah Sabonis is better than Randle, but the Knicks have assets to potentially make that deal better or grab someone else to send their way. Even if it wasn’t possible they should have been in the conversation.
I don’t think they “fire” Perry but he might be maligned to doing scout work.

WOJ of all people, made a video yesterday that posted it on Twitter via an ESPN interview that HE AND ALL SORTS OF GM's were shocked after the trade went down.

But if you want to shit on your own FO team, have at it. It only makes you look like the joke.

Actually
The Kings were among the teams interested in Randle entering this week. Several teams had expressed a degree of interest in Randle ahead of the deadline. The Kings were under the impression that they could acquire Randle for the right return. Now that Sacramento has acquired Domantas Sabonis, it seems logical to count them out as a Randle suitor.
I wouldn't have traded Randle for Haliburton because it would have been a lateral move. We would be left with out a single big man to stretch the floor, and just a bunch of young players running up and down the court getting smoked every night.

Did some thing different happen that you are privy to
TOM THIBODEAU/FRONT OFFICE
Some opposing teams are confused by Reddish’s role with the club. As noted above, he played just 20 total minutes in the first seven games in which he was active. Reddish played significant minutes over the past two games as Quentin Grimes was sidelined. The teams expressed confusion because, usually, when a team uses a first-round pick to trade for a player, that player gets immediate playing time.
In this case, the Knicks traded a non-rotation player (Kevin Knox) for Reddish. So Thibodeau would have had to remove a player from his rotation to make room for Reddish. He decided against that. That’s led to the perception among some teams that Thibodeau and Knicks decision-makers like team president Leon Rose and top executive William Wesley aren’t aligned on the trade.
One thing to note here: Coaches and front offices often have differences of opinion on players/trades and signings. It’s common in the NBA. But it gets magnified when a team is losing. Thibodeau, as a former team president, has had significant say in personnel moves.
So it’s a bit odd that Reddish hasn’t played more since the Knicks acquired him last month.
Thibodeau was opposed to parting with some of the young players the Hawks were asking for in Reddish negotiations. But it would be surprising if he and Rose/the front office weren’t on the same page with the idea of acquiring Reddish. Rose and Thibodeau had a strong relationship prior to Thibodeau’s hire.
Ok martin why don't you just discredit Ian bagley like you do every one else you don't agree with
Gersson was in Houston at same time Harden was.
Knicks hire Gersson is get the deep dive scoop on Harden.
They are just doing their homework.
Both Thibs and Leon have worked with Gersson in the past. They are just formalizing convo's
Like that.

Man, if we could make a team with our Coaching and FO relationships -- that would be awesome. Dame/DMitchell/Davis/KAT. Just need a SF relationship.

thanks Martin for saying this. W Whatever the reason, many here think the rest of the forum is actually interested in this constant whining and complaining with little positive contribution. Criticism is one thing; chronic, persistent is another. A difference in degree can be a difference in kind
what basis is there to say the Knicks were caught unaware of anything. It could be Sac liked the Indy package better than anything we were offering. After all the tweets now say Sacramento wants to win now. Maybe they didn't trust Randle would rectify his head this season
It could be we didn't want the extra players Hield and Tristan and their contracts. We're already saying we want to open minutes for some of the younger talent. SO we'll take bigger contracts to either ride pine, or consume minutes that Grimes or Obi would use
It also could be the case that as much as people like Halliburton he's not the type of pg Thibs and the FO wants. Yes he does good things and efficient, but he's not the high pressue, collapse the defense type.
put some of these guys in timeout or ban them; they're making this place a lot less fun. I wouldn't miss knicks 1248 for a second.

Perry overall has done an ok job so far. He inherited nothing from Phil except an extremely diva-ish KP who had his bags packed. Most GMs would have gotten fired after 2 years but Perry made a lot of shrewd moves and hit on most of his draft picks and we went from the most putrid roster in the league to 4th seed last season and as bad as this year has been we are one fluke run from making the playoffs second straight year in the play-in

I'll show my age some but there used to be a concept called noise pollution. There are a few people on here who i think are just relentless trolls, troll-lite, like to agitate and are not truly interested in an honest exchangeof ideas; they just like annoying people to confirm to their petty selves that they're even alive by causing any reaction to their idiocy
Might even just be remoting in. What is he good at? Scouting? Evaluation? Some trade savvy? Understanding other teams and their needs?
His Marriage? Not our business. Its stupid to have an affair at work for many reasons. As an officer of the company that becomes a potential liablity. His toxic nature with others? Either don’t put him in a positions to manage or send him to HR training and get it right. Great basketball minds are not always good people.
What did he do well at? Minny is on the right track. If knicks have a desire to get KAT its not about him being cozy with him, its about a deal with Minny? Is that the only thing they would be working on? Likely not.
Is there someine in our FO leaving at seasons end? Maybe he fills that spot? For all we know its a short term assisgnment he is here? We don’t know. Maybe Aller is up for a promotion to another team? Did Portland fill its presidency? Perry was rumored to be on the short list of candidates. He is tight with Coach billups there. Teams let execs out of contract with promotions. This is a thing.
Our FO stepped in and hired Thibs and turned the team around in one season. I can’t see blowing up the FO changes anything.

Since you asked this is an explanation of what to expect from him from a Wolves fan.
"I know ya'll are struggling right now, but I promise you, this hiring is better than any trade ya'll could've gotten. He had many "personal" issues in his time in Sota, but the dude does not sleep until every possible move is considered. And hes a draft/trade wizard. Once this guy moves into a higher role (which he will).. You guys are going to see really good returns. Be excited Knicks fans, this is big."
"I read somewhere that he is a big proprietor of pace and space. Is that true?"
"Big time.. Outscoring teams by playing better offense is the name of the game for him. He basically removed the mid range shot during his Wolves tenure."
"Maybe it would’ve been smarter than to hire this guy with more than 30 hours before the trade deadline…"
"100% - IMO I would expect a complete roster overhaul within a year. With the Wolves, he removed/traded all but 2 players within 15 months. The man does everything his way, but hes incredibly smart."
"He was hired after Thibs was already gone, but I'd expect Thibs to be gone again if Rosas has any leverage. Rosas is all about advanced analytics and outscoring teams (rather than the defensive approach Thibs has). Think Houston Rockets during Harden era."
"He made a ton of really good draft picks:
- Anthony Edwards
- Jaden McDaniels
- Naz Reid (signed undrafted)
- Jaylen Nowell
Finessed the Nuggets into basically giving us Malik Beasley and Jarred Vanderbilt for Robert Covington
Facilitated the trade to acquire DLO for Wiggins and a 1st (which turned into Kuminga) but at the time was incredible to get off that Wiggins contract without giving multiple picks."
"my biggest gripe on Rosas, is that sometimes he makes trades for picks ahead of time, instead of seeing what's available before he pulls the trigger. But I'm telling you, the guy puts so much effort into his job. This is a big win for NYK fans."
Also remember he is just a consultant. So while he might want to do a lot of these things Rose will have the final say.
