Knicks · Knicks inactivity at the deadline (page 1)

Says they were only looking to move vets without attaching picks or taking significant contracts back. This summer it seems pretty clear some combination of Burks, Noel, Walker and Fournier will be moved when there are more options and cap space will be cleared for Brunson. Mitch cap hold will be reserved as well. Whether it works or not is another story.

C Mitch F Randle F Barrett G Grimes G Brunson

This will be sold as getting back to the identity that worked last year. More of a gritty starting 5 with the offense built around Randle/Barrett/Brunson. Bench will be the youth movement spearheaded by the vet Drose. Thibs gets 1 more year to right the ship while the front office continues to preserve picks and flexibility outside of the Randle, Barrett and Brunson contracts to acquire a major star. Again, not saying any of this will happen, but I think it’s pretty obviously this is Leon’s plan.

SergioNYK @ 2/10/2022 3:37 PM
LOL we are not getting Brunson and the vets are not magically going to become more attractive or increase their value cause it's summer. I think we are stuck with these vets until they become expiring contracts.

And I think it's clear Leon has no plan.

Strangely, that point will start this summer. BOOM

Just Burks and Noel (they would never trade Rose) but you're still not getting much in return. You can find vets at half price who give you what those two do. And you're not even gonna get a 2nd for Kemba. I'm talking more about being stuck with Randle and Fournier. Either way, the future looks bleak.

Only because you CHOOSE to look for bleak. I ain't saying that everything will be rosey but come on.

Witness just last year.

I don't know how some of you get through life but you deteriorate your own selves with the constant predetermined pessimism. I ain't naive to the realistic paths ahead but I'm also not punching myself in the nutsack and wondering why it hurts.

No plan at all

who goes into negotiation trying to trade their unwanted player without offering something extra for doing so.

They didn't want to add no salary, didn't want to trade no 1st rnd picks or their half ass young players that have major holes in their game.

Great work

The Walker, Burks and Noel deals become expiring this summer. Clearing them would give more than 20 mil in cap space. Sorry I didn’t make that clear in the original post.

+1. Well put.

Regarding the Mavericks situation, they now have Dinwiddie and Luka. Have to think Dinwiddie is Brunson insurance, but seems like an awkward fit for Brunson suddenly playing with 2 lead ball handlers. Winning of course is important but wonder if he wants to play someplace he can actually be a full time PG.

You really think your statement above that Leon has no plan is likely true because a deal wasn't done today?

We have no idea what was offered and what was passed on (if any).

It's fine to be disappointed (comes with the territory being a Knicks fan) but everything you've stated above is unproven and just opinions without and suggestive evidence and/or perception based on anything besides emotions...

Like last year with the rose deal, the Reddish deal was the deadline deal. I’m sure they would have loved to move off of a contract, but obviously they didn’t find a good deal, so it is what it is.

It might just be me but i really don't feel like the Knicks have any truly bad contracts. Even Evan and Julius just don't feel like the albatrosses the team used to regularly have on the roster. Also, I'm happy that we did not trade for Russ.

Contracts aren’t bad. Fournier is doing what he’s paid to do. He’s overpaid but not like Duncan Robinson or Bertans and those types of guys recently signed. Randle is expensive but his issues are magnified in NY. He can easily get some of his magic back from last year. At least split the difference between last year and this year. Ups and downs are part of the game.

Why you think they couldn't trade Burks, EF or kemba if the contract were so friendly

I actually like Fournier

SupremeCommander @ 2/10/2022 5:00 PM
Inactive? What do you mean? We gave away a pick, to get a worse pick, and then we gave that pick away for someone we won't play

We were plenty active, just ran out of brain dead ideas

Knox was OK at best and had no clear path to the rotation barring injury and he's expiring so he's literally a warm body. They traded a pick that has an 80% percent chance of becoming a first rounder in the next 3-4 years (I forget the exact math but Im close) for a better player, same age and has another year under his rookie deal. I am def higher on Cam's upside than Knox. Reddish can actually play pretty good defense. He also seems to think he's Tracy McGrady when he's got the ball in his hands. IDK how this plays out but I like that we essentially kick the can down the road with the Knox pick. I see Cam as a salvageable future asset.

I’m sure they could have packaged them for Dinwiddie etc. but they clearly just wanted to move off the contracts without taking anything back. How many good teams had the expiring contracts needed ?

And let be honest, in the unlikely scenario that we can make a trade for a Lillard type, those are the contracts to facilitate it.

gradyandrew @ 2/10/2022 6:41 PM
Boo. The team has failed to meet the lowest of expectations and has gotten worse over the season. This isn't a winning roster but we're locked into it for the next season as well. With the amount of activity we saw it's clear a lot of teams were looking to make deals. I thought the team would have been better with a Westbrook trade.

My Kool Aid is a bit warm like its been sitting in the sun too long right now. Not saying I don't try and sip it every now and then, but man, I wish it was a bit cooler. Thibs doesn't seem inclined to make changes to the rotation, so we are kind of stuck with what we have -- which so far isn't working. We have no answer to a 2/3 zone and we have no ability to stay in front of Point Guards. And we are not making changes to address these items. We have no offensive set - we look like the broken triangle of the Jackson era and players have wide latitude to shoot fadeaway 18 footers. Its just not good basketball. Its not fun to watch.

Sell me a few ice cubes for my Kool Aid and I'll buy, but the Knicks are leaving me thirsty.

Mavs can focus on resigning Finney Smith next summer. Dinwiddie can play off ball. KP and his idiot brother were locker room poison
