Why I've been advocating for Myles Turner. A center that can hit an open 3 would open up this offense so much. Exactly, he looked great because he was hitting his 3pt shots. He has been passive with his 3pt shooting all year. If he shot starts falling, then we will see a different Randle for the rest of the year.

except Myles Turner and Bamba suck... so when they are starting and the Knicks are like the Pacers have been over recent years fans will likely think its bad coaching (again)
Kings had Trey Lyles up front... they had nobody. Randle might as well have been playing vs. college kids.

I missed the second half of the game. But if Randle was playing center, then he will have wide open 3pt shots. Centers are slower at recovering than PFs. Might be something there. I’ll be honest, I was against it. But if playing center helps Randles offense, then we have something we should explore in spurts.

Yes I have been pushing for Turner or Bamba for the same reasons. Obviously Mitch has been great, but Turner would open up space for Barrett and Randle, if the plan is to continue to build around them.

Good point. Randle shot over 40% with Mitch at center last year. But if we had a center who can score on the post, that will help Randle and RJ. Mitch is not a post up threat or a three point threat. That’s why I would not pay him starter money. Learn from the center everybody compares him to. Capella is grossly over paid for what he brings as a rim runner.

If you want to stick with Mitch, fine, he’s a good player. But Randle will continue to take tough threes and long range twos because mitch’s defender is hedging towards him and living with the handful of Mitch offensive rebounds per game. It can absolutely still work, but Randle and Barrett will have to live with tougher shots. Replace Mitch with Turner or Bamba and the lane is open for Barrett and Randle with no help defender nearby.

I’m all for drafting a center with our first round pick, this is a strong center draft. People are stuck on a pg, but a spacing 5, who is also strong on defense would help our offense so much.
It’s not a coincidence our second unit looks better with Obi out of the lineup and going small ball with 5 shooters.

I don’t think Mitch is better than Turner or Bamba, but I understand your point. He has more upside if he puts it all together. And yes you are sacrificing in some areas. Bamba and Turner aren’t world beaters from outside, but teams won’t leave them alone out there. They will guard them, which they don’t guard Mitch. They just keep a body by the basket.

Hold up. Mitch was injured for huge chunks of last season - and Randle really took off (as did the Knicks) late in the season with Mitch out.
I think there is something to be said that a center with no (in-game) range nor (in-game) playmaking is a drag in the modern NBA. It remains a mystery how a player showing so many off-season workouts launching 3's just... doesn't. At all. And how a guy who does so much work off the dribble during the off-season... rarely dribbles or creates.
Bamba is a better fit from that aspect - but you can really see growth in his offensive game. He's grown over the past 2 seasons simply because he's getting real game experience doing it. He has added more 3pt shooting volume over time and his 3pt% is stable or even getting better. And it seems as if he's getting more of a feel from the ft line as well.

Mitch's defender is out near the 3point line or just under hedging towards Randle? I don't see that.
Mitch spends a lot of time typically in the PnR or dunkers spot. Randle has a ton of wide open 3's and just misses or hesitates while open, jukes and dribbles for a while and then takes a step back or contested 3. This has nothing to do with Mitch.
EVERY team would benefit from a stretch center but there only so many guys out there who do that while defending at a high level.
