It is clear the knicks need a point guard and a young star. Jaden Ivey would fulfill both in one player. Its looking more and more that Ivey will at worse be the second pick in the draft (Jabari Smith is the only other player that I would consider going number 1 above him).
Barring something bizarre the knicks will not be getting the number pick Fortunately the Knicks have done a good job accumulating picks.
If you are the team with the number 1 pick and the knicks offered all the picks they have acquired for the pick would you do it? And just as important if you are the knicks would you offer all those pick just to get first crack at Jaden Ivey?
If the Knicks were to trade for the #1 pick it would probably cost them at least 3 #1 picks (2 unprotected) and young players like Obi, IQ and also taking back some bad contracts. Last season I proposed this when Randle had a terrific season so we could sell high. Unfortunately this season I can't really think of any specific player (maybe RJ to some degree) that a team would want back in a trade for #1 pick. I would say if Ivey is as good as some speculate - I would prob trade 2 unprotected #1 picks and some young talent if we could use one of the Dallas picks. Rationale is even if we landed a higher pick then the usual 8 or 9 slot - we don't seem to draft well unless it's late firsts/early 2nd rounders so we would need a no-brainer pick to not screw it up. We took RJ because Ja was already taken and there really wasn't anyone else to consider at the time. Of course Garland looks pretty good so even when we landed a decent/solid young player - we maybe could have even done better :)
When was the last time the first pick in a draft was traded? I don’t think it’s possible.
We should just stop winning meaningless games, help our %s.
RJ + Obi + pick 10 for pick 1 and some doodoo contract coming back and that's only if said team loves RJ.

I feel your pain.

I was thinking if the Knicks loaded up on sending 3 firsts (our 2 plus the Dallas pick) and a few 2nds since we have a boatload that would allow us to get it done without giving up RJ Of course we'd have to include maybe Obi and or Grimy Q (hopefully not Q but willing to do it).
I believe that trade would involve Satan.

would YOU do that? If you had a chance to draft what looks like a team changing talent would you trade that away for a bunch of inferior assets? No team would and no team ever does.... in fact it often costs that much to move up 1 or 2 spaces much less the huge jump we would look to make. There is a reason it never happens
NO GM wants to go down in history "as the guy who traded away the pick for player xxx" it just doesnt happen
actually - I forget - this is easy - we just need to get another organization to hire Isiah Thomas, and then we get Eddy Curry out of retirement for one last pay day!
one thing I would add - is we'd have to jump up from our current slotting to at least 3 or 4. If not 2 outright to have a chance to swap with the top pick's team.

I would say this rule is almost always true except when other GM's consider dealing with the Knicks... the memory of the Eddie Curry deal, the McDyess deal, etc... somehow other teams know that the future #1 Knick picks will always offer value

You are right. I am just desperate for someone like Ivey. I really think the Knicks would show drastic improvement if they could add Ivey. But again you are right I certainly would not do that trade

Still not enough. There will have to be unprotected firsts involved.

Yep no one is making that trade. Knicks would need to be Top 4 to move to 1. They would still have to include unprotected firsts. Top 4 pick 2022, unprotected 2024, Mavs pick 2023, RJ, Obi. That would be minimum compensation
Trade everything for Lillard, Beal, #1 pick…here we go…..
