You can’t count on Rose’s health. He just missed the entire season practically and will be 34 next season. Love IQ but relying on him and Burks again for 82 games as point guards— been there done that got the t-shirt and hard pass

SergioNYK @ 4/18/2022 8:26 AM
Brogdan might be our best and most realistic option. And we might be able to convince them to take Randle to replace Sabonis.
NYKBocker @ 4/18/2022 12:35 PM
I would stick with IQ backed up by Deuce right now. Bring in Rokas and go from there. Hopefully Rose can give us 15 min next year.

That’s not the pacers style to take on a big contract like Randle. However, If you want Brogdon I don’t think it would take much probably a combination of Rose or Burks and Noel. Pacers probably just want to get rid of Brogdon contract

Looks like there's a lot of smoke here.

I never thought Andrea Bargnani was the reason the 2013-14 squad was so miserable. Fring Glen Grunwald right before the season started was the real culprit. All those players come to an agreement with the GM but when the GM goes everyone on the team knows the new guy is going to want to bring in his guys. Neil Oshley's firing in Portland is a good example but so is Utah hiring Danny Ainge.

The story last summer was that Ainge left Boston because he hadn't been honest about Kemba and other teams around the league had stopped taking his calls. His hiring by Utah seemed like a head scratcher at the time, but I guess he and the owner had strong ties. It seems like as soon as Ainge was hired Utah went into a tailspin.

The linked article doesn't really get into that. It's mostly about how Gobert and Mitchell don't get along and the pull of NY. Given Ainge's history, it doesn't seem impossible that he.was brought in just to handle a Donovan Mitchell trade. I'm antsy about what he would ask from the Knicks. Was Mitchell playing with one foot out the door vs Dallas? Is Johnny Bryant bringing Mitchell here? I'm clueless.

Maybe it is typical star behaviour or maybe the reporters are deliberately exaggerating things to stir up interest in the topic, but in the article Donovan comes across as having the makings of a primadonna. And while I never followed Utah in the playoffs closely, I seem to recall reading about quite a few games where opposing guards would go on scoring rampages against the Jazz, which left me wondering how truly good Donovan was on defense.

All in all, gives me pause when I think about the Knicks giving up the house, the barn and the future for this guy.

I dunno about that. Reddish is exactly the type of guy who goes to the Pacers and blossoms. We could throw in a 2nd round pick or conditional future 1st rounder I suppose

Jazz are going to ask for RJ, Obi and Quickley plus draft picks. F that

Hey, do I wish we had picked Mitchell over Frankie? Sure (though he could have very well been destroyed by that regime, fans, and media). But "doing whatever it takes" to get him here seems problematic at best, and a potential disaster. He's very good, but clearly not a guy who's going to put a team on his back. And maybe Thibs gets him to care about defense, maybe not. The mob might enjoy ripping him to shreds when he falls short though.

Nalod @ 5/2/2022 4:10 PM
Last few days have him staying as the media machine has them rebuilding with him. Perhaps Gorbert goes is insinuated.
Donovan played vs. Dallas with Hamstring thing. That, or he tanked it and wants out.
Ainge can do some radical shit. Makes more sense to rape Knicks with a RJ, OBI, IQ and picks around Rudy.
Lets be real, Lakers are not quite cooked, Clippers have Leonaard returning, Lillard comes back, as does Murry and perhaps MPjr in Denver.
I think Snyder is a great coach but might be time to move on.
They ran this team back and its not clicking. Conley is cooked, Ingles is cooked, and they looked like a team ready for shake up.
They don't make the playoffs next year perhaps.
And they bought in Ainge.
As I said, RJ is a big chip but I don't do him in a trade. Maybe Ainge wants Fornier (he traded for him in BOS).

Do you do Randle and Mitch for Rudy? Lets say we get cap space for Brunson.........

Brunson/IQ
Fornier/Grimes
RJ/Cam
Obi/Cam/Rookie
Rudy/Norlens

Somehow DRose goes to Dallas perhaps with their own pick back.
Im not advocating this. Just spewing topic. This is not a contender but it should get us in the playoffs. Not loving the defense in the back court either.

This is the TT trade suggested a couple of weeks ago. Rudy is a major upgrade over Mitch in the sense that he is a more experienced shotblocker, defender and rebounder. With his rebounding and defending in the pivot, the Knicks can fire away with more confidence, while opposing teams would get fewer second chances. So that would indirectly help with the backcourt offense and defense issue. And isn't he also good in the pick-n-roll: the bread-n-butter of modern NBA offenses?

And I am sure Obi can develop a decent enough mid-range shot to make up for Randle's departure.

The jazz are going to ask for the farm for Mitchell. I really like Kennedy Chandler in this draft and he will be there at 11

Alpha1971 @ 5/8/2022 7:07 AM
I can see us drafting Dyson Daniels at 11. Hopefully Daniels has terrible tryouts with other teams or else with his size I can see him rising into the top of the draft. Team will be able to draft a good young player at 11. Could also see Rose trade the pick for two first rounders to Charlotte or San Antonio them using only one pick and trading a first rounder for another future first. Or trading 11 for a future top ten protected pick next year. That's what Rose does.

So I ask -- is upgrading PG what will "solve" the Knicks? There are teams still playing that don't have an elite point guard. I'm not saying one wouldn't help, of course it would. But it seems to me to be more about ball movement as a team. That the Knicks haven't had that in eons -- and you can't blame only Randle -- is a major cause of our perennial suckdom I'd say. You see it here an there which would indicate it could be done. Maybe the right quarterback would do the trick, I don't know.

PG is just the most glaring weakness of the team IMHO but not the only one.

To make playoffs and maybe get past first round Knicks need a high level dependable talent player, that's missing. They need a breakdown player, just someone who can ISO can get bucket. They need their high volume guys to not be inefficient.

Kemet @ 5/10/2022 4:15 AM
The Knicks would've had an above .500 season if coach Thibs would've put the rookie PG McBride in the game rotation back in the month of January, or February.
McBride's talent/skills are way above the G League tournament, plus he played well in lineups having Quickley, Obi, Taj or MitchRob.

Coach Thibs want a PG that could co-exist in a lineup having Randle & Barrett performance.
The Knicks had several PG that couldn't co-exist in a lineup having Randle and Barrett.
1) D.Smith Jr
2) Frank
3) Rivers
4) Payton
5) Kemba
And fans wondered why D.Rose wanted no part of being in the starter lineup having Randle & Barrett.

Most won’t agree with this but Randle missed Payton, they both had good synergy.

Between IQ, Rose, McBride, and Rokas, I’m not sure we have a PG problem.

But if we pick up a new PG, for the love of god let him be a good defender. And sturdy.

So basically, Randle plays his best offense when he's by himself.
