If he passes the shot is he moving the ball by dribble creating space for a proper pass. Downhill as he excels at is not always there at games end.
I did not watch the last two games. Not yesterdays Magic laugher so Im not all in on OBI as new starter as he did well vs. Magic Jr. Varsity. But its still NBA and won’t discount it.
Reality is here might be a trade for Randle that makes sense for us. Maybe Jules gets to go home to Dallas and we get Brunson and be done with hit. Move OBI to start and away we go. Mitch and Fornier, add a 1st round for Ayton? Start Grimes and bring Cam off the bench. Wow! I jettisoned both Randle and Evan off the team? LOL, I have no idea if Randle wants to go “back home”. At the same time the “MaverKnicks” seem like a comfortable place for exKnicks to go to.
BUt………………Does Thibs and staff think IQ is a future Starter? If other teams were instersted in playing Randle a different way what is that, and can we do that? Did Randle after chicago game become frustrated because he reinjured the Quad and his body language was misinterpreted? Did he say he was done as a knick, was that specific what he said or was it more referenced to this season?
I know all were quick to refute and defuse it the next day but knicks and most NBA teams don’t talk about shit like this. The season is not done and there is no benefit to airing dirty laundry. We’ll learn more off season and obviously in June when draft, free agency and trades commence.
Any sign and trade deal with Dallas much include Pinson coming back this way!
I'd do that deal straight up if I could

Nice breakdown of Obi's impact on the team....

Obi and IQ are both playing well, but I get nervous about a player who picks up the pace in April for a team no longer in playoff contention. Mardy Collins still haunts me to this day.

You can look at it like that and it's understandable. Or, you can look at it as a player finally getting the opportunity to show what he can do with extended minutes. Unfortunately for Obi, playing for this coach and behind Randle, he was only going to get this chance in April when the team was no longer in contention for a playoff spot.
gradyandrew@ 4/5/2022 9:03 PM
I still think the issue was that Sims leapfrogged Obi in the rotation. If Thibs is willing to play Taj next to Randle, Obi should have been in the mix as well.

One plays C, the other PF. How do you leapfrog someone that plays a different position?

Yes. Where was this the first 4 months of the season when Obi couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn as a shooter

Obi has played C. They are both run and dunk PF/Centers. Sims just wasn’t ever hyped at all coming out of college
I’m hoping Obi’s regression this year was just him getting cold sitting behind Randle after we prematurely extended him

Yeah, Obi has made tangible improvements. Even with the three-point shooting, you could say the improvements in his stroke and percentage during this last stretch is a reason for optimism.

This is why I said to read between the line from his interview a few months ago. This is how he really feels about playing time and how it helps him develop. He is a no drama player so he will never ever say anything that will create drama. The Same goes for Grimes and McBride. No matter how they feel they will never rock the boat. This is a credit to the character of the players we drafted.

Nor should they. Idk whats up with people acting like Thibs is the only one who favors a gradual approach with rookies. Remember how much people loved James Bouknight? He's hardly seen the floor and he's a lotto pick.

In fairness, I haven't seen anyone say "Thibs is the only coach that doesn't play rookies". I don't think I have seen anyone argue that Bouknight should or should not be playing over Lamelo and Frazier. All I see is people saying "Toppin and the other rookies on the Knicks should get more minutes". The criticism I have given is when I see time going to a vet where a rookie appears to be outperforming the other player, or the vet is playing out of position to the exclusion of the rookie, or the vet is playing an exceptional amount of minutes versus the rookie, I ask why? And that question seems more valid when the rookie/young player steps in and performs as hoped.

I honestly feel that Obi's ceiling is higher than Randle's. With RJ taking on the lead role we don't need another ISo player in Randle. And with Thibs sticking with Randle no matter what the numbers say we need our management to get rid of Randle in order to let Obi develop

Care to explain what you mean by regression. Obi has improved in every statistic this year as well as his mpg and per 36. The only thing that is down is his 3pt % - which most of the roster is also down as well and he has improved throughout the year on this.

He could become our 50/40/90 guy. Thats what's up.Honestly I hope our front office gets some value for Randle because we are not winning $hit with him on the team and we could move forward with a real rebuild, which after this season should be the plan
JesseDark@ 4/7/2022 10:42 AM
Watching the Net game last night Obi reminded of a player the Net's had on the bench - Blake Griffin. Obi improve his jump shot and I think that is his ceiling, which isn't bad.

If Obi's ceiling is that high, why would he have a problem developing around Randle or anyone else? They are two completely different players. Obi love and Randle hate are apparently the two sides of the same incoherent coin.
Maybe we should get rid of Thibs too? And our management? And any other PF/C on the team? I heard Sims is stealing time from Obi, better get rid of him for developmental Obi purposes.
Holy shit.

Why good Sir, you cannot have two starting power forwards that cannot play other positions on the same team, that's just bad team balance. As time has shown Thibs goes with the veterans even if there are better alternatives right there in front of him. But don't let my opinion get in your way of thinking, that's simply what I think and I am no head coach, as incoherent as it may seem. Thibs needs the front office to put him in position to succeed, if we failed as playoff contenders we need to try our luck as a rebuilding team. So let's not get ahead of ourselves and talk about management and all that. They need time too to work through this.
