Knicks · Knicks should trade for Brogdon if he’s attainable (page 2)

Caitlin, the guest on the podcast, also said the Pacers would definitely want a first rounder. That pick would definitely need protections for me to be comfortable. I dunno...IQ sounds like the better option. Brogdan is good, but you consider the salary, injury history, the assets they'd have to give up.etc.
Vmart wrote:I don’t think we should get a Brogdon. The Knicks have everything they need. We just need Quickly and McBride to get the necessary playing time.
Think Brogdon's salary, Knicks having to give up assets and Brogdon's health concerns are much bigger reasons to stay away. If he was a FA at vets minimum than a clear reason to take a chance. For what is worth do think he will have a bounce back year but do we really want to take on the costly roll of the dice.
Deuce becoming a solid PG is everyone's hope but he has yet to prove that he is anything more than hope. As much as everyone complains about Thibs not giving young guys a chance, Grimes and IQ have proven that guys that produce will be given a shot.
Knixkik wrote:If the concerns outweigh the pros of trading for Brogdon that is fine. I believe Quickley and Rose, with an added depth piece and McBride can hold down the PG position. But what I want to see is the Knicks add a player that can create his own shot when the offense breaks down. Rose can’t be relied on. Barrett will eventually get there but we need another guy. Otherwise it’s Randle iso and we want to avoid that. We need a playmaker/shot creator. Going back to the Atlanta series, we didn’t have enough juice offensively in the backcourt with Payton and bullock. So we add Fournier and Kemba and lose the original identity. So now we need to find that middle ground. Brogdon seems like that middle ground, but obviously there should be other options.
100% and it’s why I think they are taking a long look at what it would take to get Ivey.

Actually that's not what she said. She talked about the inability to properly assess Brogden and Turner's trade value. She did say that Indy would be ecstatic to get a first for Brogden but the Knicks would have to be crack-high to trade 11.
After listening to that podcast (an excellent one, btw) I get the impression that there is no market for Brogden per se - it being the Knicks outbidding the Knicks as has happened far too many times in the past. I think a future first (not next year's) and salary ballast would do the trick. Given Turner's injury trajectory, I think Noel certainly would be one to go.

So the pacers would want....a first rounder for Brogdan? I've cooled down on Brogdan anyway, but a protected first round pick wouldn't really get me upset. Two second rounders would be better, but whatever. The Knicks have more picks than available roster spots for the foreseeable future. My issues has more to do with Brogdan's fit with the current roster. A market will develop for Brogdan just for the simple fact that there aren't any other good lead guards available after Brunson and Jones.
Knixkik wrote:I know people are scared off by his age and injury history; rightfully so. But he will come at a lesser price for those reasons. I like him better than most non-Brunson options (and prefer just sticking with IQ over most non Brunson options as well). Reasons are he is a big guard who doesn’t positionally block anyone. If Quickley ends up being an elite PG than Brogdon can be the 2-guard. If he’s not, than Brogdon provides that security blanket at PG. If we draft a wing like Davis, Branham or Mathurin and that player pops, than Brogdon sticks at the 1 and that player has a clear path as a starting wing. Brogdon allows switching at every position, a staple of what works for the Celtics. Brogdon is essentially everything Thibs tried to force Burks into being. Most acknowledge Fournier isn’t a long term fixture here, so Brogdon can become a logical fit next to whatever guard or wing ends up showing the most promise, whether it’s IQ, Grimes, Reddish or a rookie. Just seems like a logical option with so many different directions this team can still go.
Point of etiquette here!
If you are going to make a post about how the Knicks should acquire player X, take the time to work out a trade scenario! Randle for Brogdon or Noel and Burks for Brogdon or RJ and Obi and Kemba all work. If you want to post this stuff, please have the courtesy to work out a trade acceptable to you, the Knicks, and the Pacers. Not doing so is inconsiderate.

Strange post. I’m a 20+ year poster here that discusses a lot of trade scenarios in many of my posts. It’s very common knowledge there’s a lot of avenues to a trade with Indiana (as you mentioned ) so I didn’t feel the need to get into all of them. My initial post would have been very long. This thread wasn’t about the many trade scenarios. It was about the player himself and the fit. I love mock trades but not every post needs them. Words like “etiquette”, “courtesy “ and “inconsiderate” don’t really fit here. Let’s just have the freedom to start threads and include what we prefer.

Well, it's the difference between trying to get someone pregnant and fapping against the wall to see what sticks. One encourages forward thinking, the other just makes a mess. Of course you are free to do as you like!

True, but it kind of falls in line with the rumors that came out during the season. Everyone has desires. I want prime Salma Hayek. Doesn't mean I'll get it. But if you're a good team looking at low first-rounder anyway, why wouldn't you throw a protected pick out there? They might only be able to get two second rounders out of it. But then you factor in the players they'd want, even if it's just to match salaries and other issues. I wouldn't call any potential deal a no-brainer.

True. But when philc says it like its fact than rumored its an irritant. I get it.

Indiana gets #10, KCP, Ish Smith, Washington get Brogdon.
Washing gets a win now player/PG who can start next to Beal. Indiana select Murray at #6 and goes all in with young lineup of Turner, Murray, Duarte, Johnny Davis/KCP, Haliburton.

It would get rid of Jules and help get a better pick in next year's loaded draft, assuming Malcolm misses his usual 20 to 30 games. Let's get it done!

I like it for Indiana. I feel like Grunfeld must in the background as Washington's consultant if they make this move.

So we lean today of a rumor that philly might want burks for the 23. Thats a 1st rounder! So they might want. It, but its the salary part that is hard.
We want to get rid of Jules so we can tank in next years draft? So we keep banking on hope each year?
Why not play Kemba and let his expiring run out. And lose. Whats the worst that can happen, Randle tighens up his game and we make playoffs? Im kidding. I suppose if Randle has a good year we think it will let down again? Becuase everything that happend will keep repeating itself?
