Knicks · A. J. Griffin (page 1)

Most mocks have us taking him, yet I don't see anything on UK about him. What is everyone's thoughts about us drafting him. Great shooter, injury prone, good fit for our team?
fishmike @ 6/23/2022 10:44 AM
haha.... well done. Was about to post "its draft day and every mock has us taking AJ Griffin"

which would be fine. Great size and hops, might be the best shooter in the draft, 6'6 with a 7 foot wingspan, great size for a 3... strikes me as a nice piece moving forward with all star upside. Worst case a high floor rotation guy. Like Otto Porter before he sucked. Griffin is a really nice prospect IMO

SergioNYK @ 6/23/2022 10:45 AM
Griffin reminds me of QRich.

Good comp. Is this the point of draft day were we talk ourselves into him?

May need a few more beers to get to that level, but we got plenty of time and lunch right around the corner

watch his tapes.
At Duke the guy gets wide open looks. Most of these players from duke dont deal with real duress. You have Mark Williams and Ponchero wendell Moore et al Griffin was the spot up 3 man. Not taking many contested 3's his are practice type shots. Hes not a great ball handler

We already have Grimes???????????? same size same game. Oh and Fournier

Philc1 @ 6/23/2022 11:42 AM
Griffin can definitely shoot. We would be even more crowded on the wing than we already are but Burks is probably a goner

We keep drafting the same players every year. That said if we aren’t drafting a pg and we are going SG/SF I want guys who can shoot. Defense in the nba is atrocious now, Griffin will get open looks at the next level. No more bricklayers

I never really expected him to be there at 11. He had a great combine - both measurements and athleticism. A 6'7 SF that shot really well from 3. Coming out of a great program in Duke. A little bit of an injury history, but nothing to make me run away screaming. He is a great pick at 11. I just don't really see him making it to us.

reminds me a lot of Danny Granger. Fell in the draft because of injury history. Drafted by Pacers, guy was great by year 2, done by 30

I think there's a good chance he's there at 11. It all comes down who do you like more, Davis or Griffin?

More than a little bit. He missed all of his senior year and part of his junior year in HS due to injury. He missed some college games as well. I mentioned in another thread that he has an injury history going all the way back to 13 years old, according to a scout. His lack of availability is a big concern....

smackeddog @ 6/23/2022 1:36 PM
I'm okay with him- the main reason for him dropping is the medical stuff, and I think we have sufficient inside connections that we'd have good information to know whether it's a legit issue or not. If he's medically fine, then maybe he regains some athleticism and keeps the shooting- that would be great. Would fit well next to RJ and Randle and Mitch too(we need another shooter if we're keeping those 3).

However I was listening to a podcast and they said when they first saw him in a gym, he was 17 or whatever and he was in a walking boot- and that was before all the knee stuff. So we'd better be damn sure about the medical.

homeskillitprigioni @ 6/23/2022 1:36 PM
I don't know, this dude was totally non-existent in the Duke/UNC game I watched.

It's hard for me to get excited about a player that just doesn't show up in a big game like that. I can understand a bad shooting night as some top players had in their exit games but with many you can still see the intensity, effort, and contributions in other parts of the game. That dude just did absolutely nothing.

Swishfm3 @ 6/23/2022 1:54 PM
I would rather see the Knicks hold out and hope for Moore lands to them in the second round
ESOMKnicks @ 6/23/2022 2:03 PM
I am just not feeling it with AJ Griffin. Looks real slow, heavy, low motor based on body language. Not that much by way of slashing, defense, ball handling, passing. Takes a lot of difficult heavily contested shots, they may fall in college, but it is not a given they will fall in the NBA. Good spot up shooter from 3, and that is about it.

Grimes already brings to the table everything that AJ does and more. I hope the Knicks do not use a roster spot on AJ.

I don’t even think he’s a top 20 pick. He doesn’t have the diversity there are missing intangibles he basically shot practice shots at duke. He’s a bust waiting to happen. He is pretty much the only zonk on the board. Reading into his 3 point fg% is fake news — watched him play. Quiet as a mouse. We’d be drafting a bust and there won’t be many in the top 20. On top of it it’s a big FU to grimes
