Knicks · What is going on in Utah? (page 4)

I guess the Lakers, with AD and whoever.

Man, Danny Angie is a genius. How he convinced Minny to give up all those picks for Gobert is beyond me.

Thats a lot for a Center right? Its not just me.It is. But Minny is desperate to make move in the standings.

I know. Miami signs an obese aging PG to three years, $30 M per and everybody's on their d@#k.Portland sign a talented, but still unproven combo guard to a $100M and no one says anything. The Knicks sign a proven, young vet for $104M and everybody is going on how stupid the organization is for paying him. I can't count how many times I've heard experts go on about how bad the draft day trade was and they still can't even get the actual details of the trade right.
It's a joke, I was listening one of them and they couldn't even articulate WHY they didn't like the Knicks signing Brunson- you could hear their confusion in realtime going from "a bad signing for the Knicks" to "... but.. I like Brunson.. The contract number is fine... er ... I think it's I just don't like this signing because its on the Knicks- I don't like it for the Knicks". Just Bizarre to listen to. Apparently we're not meant to sign players now that could help us take a step forward- we must only sign star players who aren't available and don't want to come- that's the standard we're held to in free agency, that literally no other team is.
That same podcast then said about Detroit, that Burke and Noel are nice players, good contracts- they spent the entire season laughing at the Knicks and saying they were bad players that were unmovable and terrible overpays.
Im thinking we got RJ and utah can go fuck themselves. Im keeping my powder dry. Brunson and Johnny Bryant will work to make the chemistry better. Ths teams identity is more defined.
Rudy can unleash more from KAT and that is not sexy. They also have Edwards who projects better than Dmitch. Why trade when you already have a future studd? same for Knicks with RJ. Dmitch is great but at what price?
If we do all this talk about OBI being the man, well if he comes ready to fly then let him and we can deal with Randle later.

I’m trying to get to where you are but struggling to see some of the upside. That ball movement in the starting lineup wasn’t fantastic. Putting aside labels like starter and such,
Brunson/Rose/McBride results in McBride getting limited minutes
Fournier/IQ/Grimes is a camp battle that could end up with a wasted NY asset
Barrett/Reddish - I prefer Barrett at SG and wish they had a real 3&D today. Otto Porter fits that bill. I’d like to see what Reddish can develop into though. I’d bring in Otto anyway to be that mentor.
Randle/Toppin - I’ve been harsh on Randle because I feel he quit on us last year. Maybe he had injuries. Maybe he has young kids and isn’t getting sleep. But 20-21 Randle was a revelation and 21-22 Randle is a relegation. My comment to Randle is be better than Dray. Toppin looked fantastic to end the year and I think he matches Brunson’s ball handling style better (read: moves without the ball). Randles defense is better.
Robinson/Hart - Not many questions here. When they need floor spacing, play Hart. 28/20 split on minutes sounds right.

Move RJ to SG and find a 3 and D SF. Had we just takin Mikal Bridges when we had the chance. I wanted to sign Porter last year but I don't think we are a good enough team to get him. I think there are more tha 1 team that would give him the MLE

This.
Ainge knew Utah had zero shot at keeping Mitchell and Gobert long term. I don’t think Utah has managed to keep a superstar long term since the Stockton/Malone days

I’d give the big pick package for Mitchell. For Gobert and Murray it’s crazy.

Don’t struggle to see it. You can’t. Im on the optimist thing and not ashamed to admit it. But I can’t verify or describe it. Really, its out of my hands and I won’t put in the time because the roster is not set and there could be much to be done. Big moves matter but so do the little ones and how they aggregate.
We reveled in Randles surge and hailed he contract as a good one at the time. Now many want to dump it. Im sitting on the fence and want to see that if he comes back, how he comes back. With Brunson and RJ, or even if traded he won’t be “The man”. But he has. His money and at that price he is a good value warts and all. That contract should age pretty well given the move of salaries jsut in the last two weeks. Our Friend PHilC been calling it “the worst”. He made 21mm and hung an empty 20-10. Can’t lay it all on him either. Lots went wrong last year around him.
We can argue this all day long. My hope is not on Brunson as a star. I keep reading fans want stars. I want players that become stars AFTER THEY COME HERE! I want every player on the knicks to feed off a chemstry and rise up for on court of trade. Play up to the contract! Thats why we passed on Haywood. Derozen had a good year and his contract will age decent as long as he holds up. Im fine passing on him last year. EF at his age and what we paid him has retained value in my opinion. Im not negative on him. Some of us are. I get it.
I hope Brunson starts a era by pulling this team together. At the moment we have IQ and Drose. IQ can learn more about scoring in the paint beyond the floater from both of these guys. Brunson has not the wingspan/length but is a fine player. The kid worked his ass off to get and remain at this level.
Just because I can’t see greatness of this team does not mean I tilt negative. I guess Im ok with gettinga playoff birth at or above .500. more is better. Im not to be crushed by false hope. I enjoyed last season with RJ blossoming, IQ acclimating and OBI finding his space. Grimes was a pleasant surprise.
JI did not get pissy on draft night becuase I choose to be patient. That does not make me smart of naive. Just makes me open minded a bit on how this will or can come together.
With Durant wanting out the axis tilted in ways we don’t see. Minny can justify its trade for Rudy because they have a trio of talent in KAT, Edwards and D’angelo. It was time to step up and make it so. Will it work? I don’t care really. Its fun to talk about I suppose. Utah has had good success and Rudy been a big part of it. It does not translate to the playoffs. To which DMmitchell looked bad this last round but I suspect he was a bit hurt and could not guard Brunson well. Rudy will be on a deep younger team.

I would swap RJ for Simons in a heartbeat.

Or maybe watching someone score on a bad team for part of season isn't enough to convince someone. Heck, IQ had two triple double at the end of the season. Let's extend him for $80M!

So, Simons stepped in for Lillard in much the same fashion that Brunson stepped in for Doncic.
Simons has a 6’9 wingspan and a 41 inch vertical leap at the age of 24.
His defense is still questionable (like Brunson’s) but that additional length and wingspan make him interesting.
Comparing RJ to Simons, RJ carries the burden of being the #3 player in the draft. But when given the ball, his eFG numbers were drastically mediocre.
But, because we drafted RJ with the #3 pick behind Zion and Ja, we need him to succeed, emotionally because anything less is an organizational failure… again.
I was a huge proponent of getting RJ the ball handling responsibilities, but he didn’t execute.
Simons was probably a slight overpay, like Brunson.

Simon's showed he can score more in a higher usage role. Valuable skill, but he hasn't shown the playmaking chops that Brunson has and even with his scoring, he's done it meaningless games. I'm not that impressed to be honest with you. High scoring combo guards are a dime a dozen. I'll give you the age argument since Andernee is only 22. If you want to argue that he has time to develop the rest of his game, that's fair. It's also not a given. I see a Colin Sexton type.
