Ughhhhhh. That can’t be good for us. They are going to want a big haul for Mitchell
Thats a lot for a Center right? Its not just me.
It is. But Minny is desperate to make move in the standings.
If the Knicks made that trade they would be raked over the coals
I know. Miami signs an obese aging PG to three years, $30 M per and everybody's on their d@#k.Portland sign a talented, but still unproven combo guard to a $100M and no one says anything. The Knicks sign a proven, young vet for $104M and everybody is going on how stupid the organization is for paying him. I can't count how many times I've heard experts go on about how bad the draft day trade was and they still can't even get the actual details of the trade right.
LOL.Unproven? Simons was the only thing keeping that Portland team relevant this past season.
I would swap RJ for Simons in a heartbeat.
Nah idk about this
That’s because you are emotionally invested in RJ.
Or maybe watching someone score on a bad team for part of season isn't enough to convince someone. Heck, IQ had two triple double at the end of the season. Let's extend him for $80M!
So, Simons stepped in for Lillard in much the same fashion that Brunson stepped in for Doncic.
Simons has a 6’9 wingspan and a 41 inch vertical leap at the age of 24.
His defense is still questionable (like Brunson’s) but that additional length and wingspan make him interesting.
Comparing RJ to Simons, RJ carries the burden of being the #3 player in the draft. But when given the ball, his eFG numbers were drastically mediocre.
But, because we drafted RJ with the #3 pick behind Zion and Ja, we need him to succeed, emotionally because anything less is an organizational failure… again.
I was a huge proponent of getting RJ the ball handling responsibilities, but he didn’t execute.
Simons was probably a slight overpay, like Brunson.
Simon's showed he can score more in a higher usage role. Valuable skill, but he hasn't shown the playmaking chops that Brunson has and even with his scoring, he's done it meaningless games. I'm not that impressed to be honest with you. High scoring combo guards are a dime a dozen. I'll give you the age argument since Andernee is only 22. If you want to argue that he has time to develop the rest of his game, that's fair. It's also not a given. I see a Colin Sexton type.

Huh I've been among the biggest proponents of trading RJ for the right piece. 1 season of bombing on a bad team dont make him legit. He was a more efficient scorer but what else does he contribute? He's a far worse defender than both RJ and Brunson. Though assists don't show it id probably argue Barrett is the better creator.
Is there a world where we can trade RJ for Mitchell? Perhaps. Like most fans I get vested in my rookies and if RJ has that still ceiling which I laid out his trajectory is better than Jimmy Butler and Derozen, thats about were Mitchell seems to have settled as an allstar. If so, I don’t pay big for him. For many fans “if it has yet to happen, im not convinced”. Well, yeah!
I know brunson does not have the long arms of Mitchell but the kid came with no cost, on a 26mil per year deal. Fans that follow the media hype gather brunson is a star. He is not. He is a good player and a nice upgrade to knicks whose impact thru leadership also matters.
Grimes better than Starks? Better Athlete? Not sure. John could fly, was quick, and was good at gettng seperation. All very good athletic traits. Grimes I see more fundamenally sound but if he does have he it factor he will on the court.
Starks played for Jazz so its relevant.
Rudy thoughts. I suppose the beef with him and spida was really not known and public opinion was more anti rudy. His licking the microphone was pretty stupid. After that he was the back bone of that team and the haul they got for him considering his contract was massive. Seems fans underestimate dudes with big contracts at times. Count me in on that as well.
1+1=3. Plug and play is not always how to evaluate a trade. What Rudy does to free up KAT will determine his value. chemistry, add to that potetial third year growth for Edwards. Forget last year and the impressions we have of wolves. This could be a big deal for them.
martin wrote:For me it seems simple. If a team wants to ungodly super overpay for Mitchell, he will be traded ASAP. If not, they keep him til the All Star game hosted in Utah next season and then trade him or make a different decision (if they don't nab the likes of Ayton this offseason).
They would have done the same with Gobert but got an offer they couldn’t refuse from the wolves
I wouldn’t trade the farm for Mitchell. Plus we have a full time pg now. Not sure how Mitchell and Brunson would work on both sides of the court
I was listening to that J Fischer's podcast thing and surprisingly he said he canvassed GMs and they universally preferred Barret over Tyler Herro and think RJ has the greater value.
So if it ever came down to knicks or heat we can offer the more valuable player, the better contract (Fournier over Duncan) and more picks.
Just thought it was interesting as I always assumed Herro was valued more.

Really? I thought it was obvious Barrett was the better pick because he played much better defense.

I prefer RJ over Herro and have always thought Herro got ridiculously over rated after the bubble, but didn't know all the GMs had finally come to their senses (the bball writers and commentatorsstill havent)

Supposedly Herro also has some off court issues. Agree, the media’s Herro obsession is just a passive aggressive swipe at the Knicks
If the trade was RJ for Spidermitchell, then fine. You do that trade. But if it's for RJ plus Obi, IQ and a gazzlion picks - some which would be unprotected years from now - then no thanks! I like the Spider but he's not a franchise level player (ie. Giannis, Luka, Embiid) that you make that type of trade for.
I don't think we should pursue Mitchell at this point. A backcourt of him and Brunson is too small. I'd wait and see how the team jells with Brunson then take stock at the trade deadline.

Yep, once we make that trade he will get hurt and we will win the draft lottery and that pick will go to the Jazz.

I don’t see Mitchell adjusting well to playing off ball.

How do you make that statement while also knowing that he has been off ball with Conley for many years? Or that Jalen has been off ball with Doncic for his entire career?
It's like you are not even considering each players previous circumstance

Philc self promoted clairvoyance is a trip. He sees things others can't.

Ha, that's what we're all thinking, but then again if we don't do the trade you just know we'll never leap into the top spot in the lottery- the best we'll ever get is the 8th spot

That’s only if we own the pick.

For me it depends on the package...but if it's a Gobert-type haul...no thanks. I think Grimes has a higher ceiling than revealed to date. He could be Starks 2.0 but even better D. I trust Leon not to get hosed by Ainge...he's not a Dolan lackey. Never was and isn't now.
The grimes love is lovely guys. Maybe we a tad over the top though?
I trust Leon, Perrin, Bryant, Perry and Brock. If dolan won't listen to them not much anyone can do.
