If they had this pick in the late teens to 20s they could just draft a player like Quickley or Grimes to develop with no expectation of a rotation spot. But once you get into the lottery it’s a different value and expectation. Knicks can trade the pick for a good player regardless of position. Thibs clearly has no confidence in Toppin and is fine playing Barrett/ Hart at PF. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Definitely possible at this point. Tonight’s game should leave little doubt as to the depth of this squad and the elite nature of Jalen Brunson’s offense. I could see some offseason action to tighten up the 9-10 man rotation. I think Randle might benefit from a couple games to recover and watch the play on the court without him. The ball movement is more pronounced.

I can’t think of a player that just comes in like jHart at the 4 though. I mean, you basically are just looking for a younger Taj. A guy like Larry Nance kind of fits that mold but I don’t think he costs a lotto pick.

I might be looking at a trade of Barrett, Fournier and picks for Ingram and Nance. No real rush to make a move though.

Brunson/McBride
Grimes/IQ
Ingram/Hart
Randle/Nance
Robinson/Hart

I don’t necessarily think the Knicks target the PF version of Hart if that’s what you’re saying. I think about Jarred Vanderbilt as that type and the Knicks missed the boat there. But what I do think may happen is the Knicks trade the pick for a player regardless of position who can fit with the rest of the bench. Just a quick example, Knicks could send the pick for Alex Caruso and they would have a second unit of Quickley, Caruso, Hart, Barrett and Hartenstein. No need for a backup 4 with Barrett and hart in there. Knicks have been a top offense this year and really only an average defensive team. Caruso improves the team defense significantly without disrupting the offense. Now a late lottery pick might be a bit pricey for Caruso who is a good player but doesn’t offer much upside, but he is an example of a player who would improve the team a little bit and fit the system.

Depending on if Mavs pick is in play, this guy feels like a type the Knicks would select. Not a position of need but he would fit in perfectly. He is a lottery pick for sure. Shades of IQ or on top side Jrue Holiday?

11:15 mark, #10

Jrue is the most common comp. For the Knicks he would be a bigger McBride as far as his early career role.

I can’t believe all this draft talk may actually be a waste.

Yup, no picks unless we trade in

So it's official. There will be no "Double Draft" in the next 7 years.

We have lots of picks going forward. If we don't get it this year we will have it for future trades. Dallas will like do a sign and trade with Kyrie if he is not kept. We can likely trade three protected picks for pick 11 like how we got those picks from OKC in the first place.

Random thought but there’s been talk about the Pacers being interested in Toppin. They have 3 first round picks plus an early second that Houston owes them. I wonder if they would do one of their late firsts for Toppin. Toppin helps them at PF and the Knicks get an opportunity to draft a player they like in the Quickley/ Grimes range of the draft. Seems like Indiana wouldn’t want to use all of those picks and would want a ready rotation player to help take a step forward.
