The question I have is what does this team need beside a star player?

Two star players.

might as well make it three
All seriousness though the team is solid. I don’t know if there is a legit need unless maybe Fournier/Cam have a bad season, but I would expect the FO to trade them for a better wing before looking to draft one.

2023 NBA Mock Draft
1
Rockets
Victor Wembanyama (Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92) A 7-foot-2 center, Wembanyama has for several years now been considered one of the most prized prospects in all of basketball. He's a game-changing defensive prospect similar to this year's No. 2 overall pick Chet Holmgren -- only with more length. His offensive versatility allows him to score it anywhere on the court.2
Thunder
Scoot Henderson (G League Ignite) Henderson ranks No. 1 among non-Wembanyama prospects in this class. He starred this past season as a 17-year-old with G League Ignite and has the passing and scoring arsenal to be one of the most polished offensive prospects in the draft.3
Kings
Ausar Thompson (Overtime Elite) One-season stints with Overtime Elite did not do particularly well for the draft stock of Jean Montero or Dom Barlow -- two players with first-round potential who went undrafted -- but Ausar and twin brother, Amen, are so obviously lotto talents that competition they face over the next year won't matter. Ausar has great positional length and amazing defensive potential.4
Spurs
Nick Smith (Arkansas) Smith has always been considered an elite talent but has really ascended the last year, going from a sub-25 level recruit to the No. 3 player in his class. He's a smooth combo guard who can handle and score on an Arkansas team that features backcourt talent as well as any team in college hoops.5
Magic
Amen Thompson (Overtime Elite) Amen, the twin of brother Ausar, is a lotto talent as well with the positional size and length to be a difference-maker at the guard spot. He flashed some really impressive playmaking skills over the last year and could give his brother, who right now is seen as the better prospect, a run for his money as he continues to develop.6
Clyde would have so many puns for Amen Thompson

Woudnt surprise me if the Magic win the first pick and select Wembanyana. They have that kind of luck with generational talent. If not them, then OKC. A Wembanyana/Holmgren front line would be like something out of the Marvel Universe. If they can stay healthy.

Stern rigged the draft for them twice 30 years ago. It ended up with Shaq moving to LA and Penny becoming a JAG. Doubt Silver does the same thing

So many no. 1 picks are conspiracy induced you have said many times. So, with top odds beng 14.5% you say Silver likely not to do the same as Stern, when the odds were higher? Very impressive insight!
wargames@ 10/13/2022 5:33 PM
I like this kid as a target but he might not be there
wargames@ 10/13/2022 5:39 PM
Flipside this is the type of kid I can definitely see them looking hard at. He checks all the things the FO likes and isn’t a freshman.

Yeah the Magic getting the number 1 pick overall the year after getting shaq and 41 wins - nothing fishy there!

The only ways you stop teams from tanking is by giving all non-playoff teams equal odds at the top 3 picks. Or you can do like a cycle where a every team can only get a top 3 pick once every ten years.
Clean@ 10/14/2022 12:42 PM
I don't see the problem with teams who tank. So many teams who tanked in the past got way better than us because we did not tank. I actually would rather the NFL drafting situation. I hate that the draft lottery can end with teams who are already good taking talent from truly terrible teams. The Grizz were already good and somehow jumped us and many other bad teams to get Ja. I have no interest in BS like that.

I like the 3 year idea. Issue with Non playoff teams is those on the lower seeds or play in would tank to get those really good odds. No sure one can really purify the system. Its a really good idea otherwise.
