This should give the Knicks $5 million in cap space.

LALALALALALALA LA LA LA LA.
I’m not listening.
Why not bring him back for the exception ? He was supposed to retire a knick. Like pinson the Knicks are losing leadership and replacing with average players.

Wizards might have offered him more plus playing time behind Rui/KP who are going to both probably have load management.
Flipside the Knicks might want to use that exception on somebody else who gets cut, or they might have something already lined up.

Just signed MR, Hart, Sims?
Can definitely see Taj coming back as an asst coach when he retires. Going to miss him, he always found a way to impact a game.
So that’s 2 open roster spots.

Knicks have always carried a 4th big. Hart replaced Noel but that’s it really. Gibson should have been brought back as the 3rd string PF like he was last year essentially.
I'm a little disappointed. Taj was my favorite Knick. I thought his role was to be Thib's voice amongst the players. I know many, me included, wanted more playing time for youth- but Taj was the anchor on defense, especially with our younger guys.
This is bullshit bruh cmon

Understand. Point was there are now much younger guys that we committed to that will take those minutes. I Like Taj. Great leader, role model and played really well last year. Problem is that he became too expensive and found a better playing situation in Washington. Knicks can always find a less expensive alternative to fill that leadership role. Not to mention that it may be time for one of the more tenured youngins to take some of that role . IE RJ
Do feel it is not the last time we see Taj joining a Thibs team. Think next time it will be as an assistant.
Taj was awesome. Always ready and reliable. In a not so flashy and obvious way won a bunch of games for us.
there is absolutely no one out there that can replace what Taj Gibson brings to the Knicks.
Terrible decision
This is not the year to have a 37 year old vet who expects minutes on this team so best of luck to Taj!
Taj was great for our young guys... I love that Sims played with him his rookie year. Could 100% see him joining the staff or coming back if there's a roster spot (at his age vet min is pretty good and way better than an assistant coaches salary)
That being said our center rotation is great for where are in the "rebuild"
Mitch 24, signed 4 years
Hart 24, signed 2 years
Sims 24, signed 3 years
None of them are great players but they all have some high end skills with Mitch's offensive rebounding and rim protections, Hart's passing , screens and shooting and Sim's straight up athleticism. Its a good deep group and pretty versatile. Tough break for Obi. He's gonna have to keep working

Losing burks and Gibson in one off season hurts. Team continuity is still important smh

More important than giving the youth playing time?

And with the passing of each and every wise man a new arises to assume leadership. Jalen has the chops as does DRose. Perhaps jules worth ethic road trip gym he got from Kobe takes hold…….

Gibson is taking nobodies minutes. Fournier would’ve been the ideal move tbh but I can understand why they moved Burks instead.
