Yup, i totally agree Clean. This is why RJ should be off the table at this point. With Brunson and Mitchell,there is a chance of RJ flourishing and maybe he becomes the 2nd star for the knicks if not he can be a major piece for the next trade the FO will do to get a star. We all know Randle wont be able to do that in fact talks are the knicks will need to attach a 1st rounder for Randle to be traded. No way he will be the major asset that goes out to get a second star.

One of the more depressing exercises you can do as a Knicks fan is compare Amare's Knicks stats vs. David Lee's on the Warriors. Plenty of Knicks draft picks have moved on to bigger and better things- I would gladly trade Steve Francis last half season for Trevor Ariza's career. Kevin Knox and Frank Ntilikina though- the Knicks made the right move to move on.
The main reason behind trading RJ would be to hold on to Obi IQ and Grimes. I think all of those guys fit better with a post DM trade rather than RJ. Of those 3 and RJ, I think RJ has the most value in a high usage situation. I just don't see RJ s value as a 4th option. I especially don't think he can get a big contract as a 4th option. My point in trading him is that at the end of the day RJ probably prefers a 100 million contract vs a 60 million one. Nothing wrong with that.

Knicks should move on from Mitchell talks. Other deals will materialize, and I things Toppin, Fournier, and five pick offer is the best Utah is going to get. Toppin is a legit starting PF, plus five 1st rounder!? I would not give up anything more other maybe adding McBride.

Smells like a leverage tactic. Begley was the only one saying utah wanted Barrett from the start. Most others were saying he wasn’t involved in talks. The fact his name is conveniently thrown in along with the extension means Knicks front office may want people to feel the Knicks got a steal if a deal gets done without Barrett, which is likely.
Can DM “lure” more players. Well. You need cap space and trade assets. Knicks have to think RJ is potential up is good or we’d have traded him out cheap. So there is that.
One year at a time. Im not so sure we can map out how to get over the rainbow but Leon has pulp in his juice card to work with and seemingly is not willing to give it all away.
Seems the deal nearly got done but Leon held his ground. My guess is a deal is not impossible at any level.

I'm kind of hoping Ainge just trades Spider to another team and we try using our assets for the next star that becomes available. This Spider trade isn't gonna move the needle to contender status and it's gonna hurt us trying to make additional moves to get to that level in the future.

If Mitchell comes here and we win games and the Knicks become the exciting story in the nba we will get stars to come here. We don’t even have to be that good. If Mitchell comes here and we are a 4th or 5th seed that will generate interest from players to want to come
Still not buying Ainge wanted RJ. Why would a rebuilding team starting over and tanking for Wembanyama want to acquire a player set to make $120M? MAKES NO SENSE!

I don't think Spider, Brunson and RJ fits. Especially if we still have Randle taking up shots and not helping with the intangibles, which is what that trio would need from the PF position imo.
I guess RJ not Mitchell is going to Knicks day at Shea 😁 I really like the ‘we know what Mitchell is worth and we will not overpay’ negotiating from our FO

I get that Ainge is playing the long game. But not to the point where RJ is considered too old for his timeline. Ainge wants to tank for a high pick But even if RJ was a top ten player, he couldnt singlehandedly ruin their chances of a number one pick on a depleted roster.
Im guessing Ainge is going to cave about the unprotected picks. The deal is getting less appetizing, the longer he waits.

This front office has been in tune with my thinking in these negotiations. If they want a lot unprotected picks you get no young players. I think if a deal is done between only the two of us we will give up max 3 UP picks. No young players and negotiate protected and swaps to make everyone happy. We get to keep our depth and Ainge can look like a hero again with a big number of picks.
