I wouldn't mid giving that up for the guy who puts us in contention. Don't think Mitchell is that guy, partially because of fit.

EF, Obi and 5 picks 2 unprotected. If not, Ainge can go negotiate with those imaginary "other possible suitors"

That's my max, too. DM not worth more b/c he doesn't put us into a new contention state...he's just a nice piece.

Interesting- so wonder what the full deal was?

Likely:

RJ $10mil
Fournier $18mil
and, if Rudy Gay ($6mil) was coming back with D-Mitch, the haggle must have been sticking between adding either Cam vs Obi and whether to include or remove Grimes.

SupremeCommander @ 8/31/2022 4:20 PM
if we're the only game in town, then Ainge will have to accept anything that isn't embarrassing

I think a package of Grimes (especially if he wants to start there), 2 unprotected, and 3 protected picks and filler ought to be enough, because I don't see anyone else lining up to pay that

Without the ainge trade, are there any other trade ideas to help the glut of players at different positions? For one Obi and Randle hasn’t worked for Obi sake. IQ, rose, McBride, grimes, Brunson, Fournier, RJ………There’s a lot of guards who needs or deserves PT and thibs likes his rotation short.

🤔

Agree
Brunson/IQ
DM/Grimes
RJ/Cam
Randle/Hart
MR/Sims

Make available EF, Rose and Obi who should have interest. Maybe upgrade Cam and Sims. Add low cost vet guard in case of injury.
Don't think anyone wants Keels, Mcbribe or Hunt so keep them as fill ins/injury/role players. .

Seems like a 3 team trade would be the easiest fix. Lakers need shooting (EF), Lakers want (Cam), and Utah wants (Obi). Plus Utah wants 4 unprotected picks (2 Knicks + 2 Laker Picks)

From the realgm board:

If any of you all are giants fans there’s a guy on bbi who is apparently plugged in with Knicks.

He said the Knicks and jazz seemed to have a deal in place and ainge backed out / changed parameters of it and was looking to reroute Barrett to a team in the east and that pissed rose off.

Roughly confirmed by Fischer who said that Ainge planned to reroute RJ to an Eastern team.

Ainge is a total a**hole, I remember reading for years about how p’d off other GM’;s have gotten with him and swearing they’d never deal with him again.

I think talks will breakdown and the deal won’t happen, mainly because this is what Ainge does, it’s why he usually fails to make trades then tells his lackeys in the media that he was so close to getting the deal done, and somehow this is conveyed as him always winning the trade.

As soon as a trade gets close (or at least he pretends they’re soooo close to a deal), he tries to radically change it or back out- it drives opposing GM’s nuts.

I would guess at this point, should be easier to find a team or two willing to take some of our players for picks or 2 for 1 deals to help relieve our crowded rotation. That seems to be the only issue at this point.

I agree with most, DM will be great for ticket sales, but adding 10 additional wins in games we should win, doesn't really move the needle much. Seems like this DM trade is for the future, but how much future will we have if we trade our future away to get him?

Make minor trades to help the rotation and wait for another disgruntle star to become available. Meanwhile enjoy the new players and this upcoming draft which supposed to be deap (hint, they say this every year btw).

I think OG Anonunby is the next possibility that fits in terms of age, size and such. Makes more sense if slim-Randle moves off the ball a bit more.

Toronto turned down the 7 pick, but maybe Fournier, a conditional 2023, top 5 protected 2024 and IQ or Grimes (reader's choice) gets it done.

Brunson
Barrett
Anonunby
Randle
Robinson

Lineup still has eFG problems, but not sure we are solving that without Barrett and Randle doing something different.

The whole point of Leon is he seems to be minding the future rather than starphuch the present like we did with Melo.
Leon is smarter than us. Is is not acting like he on the hot seat.
DM defense was awful in their last series. It was speculated he was playing hurt. He still shot the fuck out of the ball.
No, he is not a super duper star. Leon got pissed off, good. Leon does not want to give the store away, good. he seems to have this in balance.
As for Ainge, He had a good long run with celtics and then he was asked to leave. Has heart issues. His rep is he is intense and a dick. Nobody is putting a gun to anyones head and making
them deal with him. I want DM hear but every thing I read is Leon knows he needs to make more deals going forward to get us there.
So there is that.
Its why he did not give RJ away AND a bountiful array of picks.

The Nets have nothing to offer.

The Heat is trading what exactly, Robinsons shitty contract, three late firsts and Hero who wants max dollars?!

Wait it out.

Wait for what? You're assuming you're dealing with someone reasonable- look at how many times Ainge has failed to make good trades because he has an overblown ego- Even when Gordon Hayward wanted out he ended up getting nothing even after persuading him to hold on while he negotiated. He could have nabbed Miles Turner but he opted for nothing because he had to absolutely win the trade. He's delusional

I’m assuming you mean smarter than us as far as negotiating? Ok but I think it’s not about smarts. He’s just very good at his job with negotiations and doesn’t get bothered by GMs like Ainge.

He’s definitely not acting like he’s on the hot seat which is rare for most GMs that we’ve had. I’m actually surprised about that since it’s been a while now and his moves have been suttle and methodical.

Yes we need more than DM which is why you don’t sell the farm for a player who barely moves the needle, which is why I’m not sure if this is a good or bad move yet. Improves our offense or scoring but decreases our guard defense with Brunson / DM together. Will be easy for most guards to shoot over them, especially on pick and pop plays.

I wouldn’t speak too soon on not giving RJ and picks away. I think the pressure is on both Ainge and Rose. But this boxing match is going into the 9th and final round.

smackeddog @ 8/31/2022 6:26 PM
I now get why the hornets refused that Ainge offer of 4 or 5 picks so they could move up and draft Wnslow- they refused to do it just out of revenge/spite so Ainge got a taste of his own medicine
GustavBahler @ 8/31/2022 6:27 PM
Rose hasn't ok'd any bad deals. Deals with long term implications, he's drafted well. Leon also kept players from the previous regime, instead of going for a clean slate. That includes keeping Perry as GM.

I think of Isiah, the way he traded away players who were moving the needle, just so he could (unsuccesfully) put his own imprint on the team. My guess is that Dolan sees a team on the rise. A team president who isnt leading with his ego, although he could do a few intervlews, now and then. Doubt Dolan cares about that..lol.

No good reason for him to be on the hot seat at this time.

Let's start the season and have Mitchell carry some of the work load for us. Danny can say they want to keep Donovan and build around him, but how long is he going to be happy on a losing Utah team focused on the draft, after 2.5 months of very public trade talks? If he wants here, he can play a role in making it happen.

I'm rooting for no trade, but if one's got to happen, mid-season is a much better time for us.

I love that energy. I always said it from the start I am fine going into this season with our team with an actual PG. My only worry is Randle. He is too much of a headcase and his game is too ISO centric.

A buddy of mine works at a nightclub in Miami. Supposedly Mitchell has been in Miami the entire offseason chilling so he’s probably demanded a trade there.

But yeah I agree, no other team has the assets to offer. Rose/Perry did an excellent job getting us future picks while also getting cap room for brunson

Only other scenario I could see is Detroit offering Cade plus future picks but I doubt that

Jimbo5 @ 8/31/2022 11:36 PM
I think the FO up to this point have done a marvelous job holding their ground not to cave in to Danny's demands. I think the Knicks have now reached the Melo trade territory or even beyod that if they want this trade to happen.

I can only see 3 scenarios:

1. They make a trade with RJ and Atleast 3 unprotected 1st.(atleast now RJ is signed for 4 more years and its not a rookie max, might still be appealing to Danny)

2. Knicks keep RJ but gut the 2nd unit by sending out Obi, IQ, Grimes, Fournier and 2 unprotected 1st.

The 3rd option which now i would prefer is the knicks to just simply walk away and see how this team is with Jalen.
