I believe what would happen is similar to the Brunson situation. Knicks would use CAA connections to show interest and use protected picks to clear the contracts of Randle and Fournier next summer to open up cap space in addition to decline Rose’s team option. Knicks would open about 40 mil in cap space to offer a contract to Wiggins. Lineup would be Brunson, Barrett, Wiggins, Toppin and Mitch with IQ, Grimes, Hartenstein and more off the bench. Rose could also be resigned to fit into an exception. If Knicks don’t want to pay the premium for a top 25 player, they are going to use picks to offload contracts to clear space for Brunson and Wiggins level players it seems.

I'd trade for him as an expiring contract, but not to keep. I think the finals was a fluke- his post all star stretch before the finals was horrific and everyone was joking about how bad he'd been and, let's be honest, he only ended up in the all star game because of that K-pop group's tweet. His FT shooting numbers a re poor, so how does that work with RJ and Mitch if they don't improve their FT's? How does Wiggins fit next to RJ in general? Plus him doing the interview in the offseason to say he regretted having the covid vaccine puts me off too.

Hope this is just BS!

Just draft Bronny in 2 years with one of the 34 1sts and get his dad
Jimbo5 @ 9/13/2022 9:14 PM
Will the Knicks FO continue to stay patient? Can someone shake the young talent tree maybe one good young prospect can shake loose. Im curious if any of these players can become available via trade- SGA, OG, Lamelo and Jalen Brown. I think anyone of these players will be a better fit that if they got Mitchell.

Maybe if the Knicks can get him cheap. With the way their cap is grabbing a player from a team looking to cut salary Longterm might be the move.

I will keep saying I don’t think the Knicks move Randle unless they get great value for him. However if the Warriors were open to trading him for Derrick Rose, Fournier, and minimal draft asset (aka other teams picks) I could see the Knicks doing it.

They should be looking for a cost effective Fournier upgrade that gives them a players bird rights. This summer is IQ/Obi’s extension and Reddish RFA summer. It would be nice to have another piece they can sign long term pre New TV deal to make the deal better long term.

Lonzo has significant knee issues. We dodged a bullet with that guy

Mitchell also has a documented concussion problem. Rose May end looking like Neo from the Matrix

When the Knicks play against a full position team like Philly/Boston/or Toronto (Atlantic Division)
It will become easy to see what position the Knicks are weak ..
And what position the Knicks need to get better by trade ..
And what position players need to be on the trade table ..

PG Brunson/D.Rose/McBride .. Grade B
SG Fournier/Quickley/Grimes/Keels .. Grade B
SF RJ Barrett/Cam Reddish .. Grade F
PF Randle/Obi Toppin .. Grade C+
C MitchRob/Hart/Sims .. Grade B+

Career

2021-22 (GSW)
https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask?q=andre...

2018-19 (MIN)
https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask?q=andre...

When looking at Wiggins, he goes from a 33% 3 point shooter to a 38 or 39% 3 point shooter simply by moving from MIN to GSW. If you look at his shot charts from each and compare to his career, nothing really stands out as dramatically different. That 5% change is evident in both years in GSW and not on a small sample set. He took a lot of 3s. Over 300 attempts in each season presented here. Nearly 400 in 21-22 at 39%. So, what changes here? I think the simplest answer is that GSW makes players better with their passing and spread floor. Worth noting that Thibs was his coach in Minnesota and Kerr his coach in GSW.

Probably gets more open looks behind these other guys. Doubt he gets as many open looks here. I would expect him to regress a bit on stats. I'm still in favor though, if a deal makes sense, to the extent that he slots in well next to Barrett and Randle.

A few years in between coaches given is more than just Thibs to Kerr. He was a kid with Thibs.
Playing with a few HOFers really does matter.
One does not pay for the past performance. its about what can he do here in the future.

You caught me by surprise at the end of your post. 95% of your post is pointing out how he will regress once he leaves GS but at the end you are still for getting him even though he will be paid a ton of money and wont live up to his contract with us.

franco12 @ 9/15/2022 6:56 PM
I thought he played big during the finals- he had all the skills and talents to be a huge impact player- but I just feel he is missing something. Reminds of a better version of Tim Thomas.

I don't know that he puts us over the top, any more than the upside potential of RJ, Mitch, Randle, Grimes, IQ or Grimes.

I didn't post everything because I could make the point with only a couple shot charts. Exclude the 12 games Wiggins had with GSW to end the 19-20 season and his 3pt percentage just jumps 50 bps for the last 2 seasons with GSW. I think its more about open looks and the attention Curry draws than anything else. But, maybe they fixed something in his shot.

I don’t think he does. He is a nice piece, but isn’t a star. The knicks may be able to replicate his level of production by trading for someone else who would be cheaper.

I just don’t see this trade unless the Knicks thought the cost to get him would be minimal. Getting a wing upgrade for Fournier would be ideal but the cost shouldn’t be exorbitant.
