With RJ at the 2, and Wiggins at the 3. That would be a nice combo. You lose me when its a choice between the two. RJ has made a great case for a new deal IMO.

No one said it was so why even bring it up as a possibility?

The real question with grabbing a Wing like Wiggins or OG is would that allow RJ to operate as a sixth man? Specifically if they make the move this season to make Grimes a starter.

Brunson/IQ
Grimes/RJ
Traded SF/Cam
Randle/Obi
Mitch/IHart/Sims

Is a really good 10 man roster. However….

IQ
RJ
Cam
Obi
IHart

Potentially is the best bench in the league this year.

Naw, Grimes is coming off the bench in that scenario. Also, if a trade is made for a legit starting wing, I'd be more open to trading Grimes in a DMitch package.

In that scenario Grimes 3 pt shooting becomes essential to the starting line up and RJ becomes a 6MOY candidate. He would still see significant minutes but would have an opportunity to have the ball in his hand more leading he second unit.

Is this before or after RJ is extended? The Knicks need to know what they have. If they've already decided to pay RJ $25M+ plus a year, then there's no way he's coming off the bench.

Just like Fournier is getting paid 18 and they are already talking about making him a 6th man?

That remains to be seen, tho I'd like to see that come to fruition.. What we do know, the FO is really big on RJ and see him as the future face of the franchise and a potential star. There are talks about him possibly getting a max. Could you imagine the how bad it would look for them to suddenly decide to bench him? Also, RJ shot 37% off of C&S threes. Who's to say he wouldn't be able to provide adequate 3 point shooting with a drive and kick maestro like Brunson?

Even with injury issues, i think i would like SGA more. Beal early in his career was labled a bust because he cant be available to play early on but now he is fine. Im hoping SGA will be the same.

Yeah I'm skeptical of anyone that has played with that core of players.

I agree. Anyone can look good when you have a whole team chasing around Curry. That is the secret behind their "culture" that allows their reclamation projects to succeed more than other teams. I would stay far away from Wiggins.

Guys the knicks might grab:

Wiggins
Kuzma
OG Anunoby
Barnes

of those two Wiggins and Kuzma are CAA agents. I would put it between those two as the next target for the knicks.

If the Knicks are going to target Wiggins then they better be really good come this season. If they are average or below average don’t see him coming here. For that matter I don’t see any top tier player entertaining the Knicks. Only way I see top tier player to consider is if the Knicks are a 50+ win team.

You mean you could have never seen someone like Donovan Mitchell want to come to the Knicks? Or a Brunson type?

You are projecting your own thought process.

Those teams usually don’t have cap space. The ability to craft a trade is paramount.
If the knicks are in 50 plus territory, where is the need? Your talking end of career guys like Melo, alsdridge, Griff types who made their money, or in prime guys looking for a good pay/winning situation.

Nalod I remember your recipe for success. The holy Trinity One player drafted. Let's take our pick out of RJ, Mitch and Grimes( he will start eventually). One player signed in free agency. That's Brunson. Now we just need a trade. A good trade that brings us a two-way stud. Not just an empty stats All-star, I don't want that. I don't want Wiggins as it's difficult to judge his impact on a super loaded team like GS. You are absolutely on point about the ability to craft a trade. Just as long as it's a two-way difference maker. Preferably at the PF position.

When did Brunson become top tier player? As for Mitchell he wasn’t a free agent. He didn’t hold any cards. You’re dealing with a trade scenario with Ainge and Knicks were letting it be known that they were targeting DM. I hate to keep breaking it to you but players don’t want NYC it comes with a nasty pressure and an unforgiving media and fan base. Yes I’m projecting, my projections are based off historical data. Name a top tier superstar that came to the Knicks as a free agent. Free agents go to winning situations that is why I’m saying the Knicks have to win to draw to draw attention if top tier players and that doesn’t mean you’ll get them.

Elsewhere an other poster proposed Randall, Grimes, two first rounders to Phoenix for Bridges and Crowder or an other back up for Obi. Whatcha think of that. ?

When did Brunson become top tier player?

When he basically cooked the Jazz solo as Luka was healing.

In all seriousness he has been playing great for a while now and if you know his history in HS and college, and just listen to his interviews it not hard to see he is legit. He’s a bit undersized at 6’1 though to be fair a lot of Great PG’s have been 6’1.

The Knicks got the best PG on the market this summer and it’s been decades since they had anyone not on their last leg playing the position.

Define top tier and cicumstances they did not choose in NY, the year and the environment and content those considerations were and then the viability of that player able to make their way to NY.
Durant and Kyrie exist in global fishbowl and NY media is just a small part. Nationwide basketball fans are besieged with stories.
Don't believe me? Look at what big news in the NBA world Utah has been all summer. The Rudy trade was huge and don't forget Rudy is like a star in France and right now the FIBA games are big news in Europe. Rudy Fucking GoBear is all over this summer!
Nets have had stars come also. Go back to Vince Carter. Jason Kidd had no issues, Garnett and pierce. Does it suck to come to the end of your career and stick it up in of all places NY? They ok.
Knicks have not been a good place to work and shit had to get fixed. I think that's been going on a while now but since winning is not easy nor is building a culture its taking long time.
What NY fans want is a fictional scenario were "Stars want to come here" and we should:
