It really didn't look like much when it happened. This is the only angle where you see a little rotation on his foot. He didn't fall, he didn't get hit.

This really just sucks for him and the Thunder. I was looking forward to seeing if he were the real deal this season.

It's the curse of drafting 3 MVPs and losing all 3 of them.

On the Mismatch podcast they listed a whole number of big men with big injury problems- quite scary when you hear the sheer number listed- J. Jackson Jr, Wendell Carter Jr, Jonathan Isaac, KP, Anthony Davis, James Wiseman, Joel Embiid (early career), Ben Simmons, Miles Turner, Marvin Bagely, Mitch

That really stinks

I don't want to tun it into this, because he was a special talent, really fun to watch... that said, Phil Jackson pointed this out with KP, guys of a certain size are subject to certain injuries. and when you are built like Shawn Bradley it has historically been a problem. I don't want to see this, I love watching him play, but I would have been scared to have drafted him in the first place. I do not see how he recovers from this tbh and I hope I am wrong

He'll recover but its about his longevity. Shit happens and we can't always Pegg it on his lack of size. Randle broke his leg his first game in the season. Ewing rookie year he missed 32 games with injuries, then 18 the next. After than he about played every game for the next 7 or so years!
Kurt Thomas feet kept breaking. Had along durable career.
the there are the skinny unicorns who could not sustain.
The after we drafted KP I read about these bigs and the body is not engineered with ligament size to keep up. The bigs that move like Small Forwards seem problematic. The bigs that are big and play big not so.
Makes giants like Wilt and Kareem so special given their longevity and durability. Shaq mass defied common stereotypes.
Mostly its the bigs that move like small men that are problematic.

Chet Holmgren Assures Fans He’ll Be Back And Perfectly Healthy For 9 Games Next Year

OKLAHOMA CITY—After suffering a foot injury that will cost him the entire 2022-23 season, Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Chet Holmgren reportedly assured fans Friday that he’ll be back and perfectly healthy for nine games next year.

“Missing my rookie year in this league isn’t what I wanted, but I want everyone to know that I’ll be back bigger and stronger for a week and half of games early in the 2023-24 season before getting hurt again,” said Holmgren, adding that he would spend the next year focusing on getting better so he can help his team for a few games next November before getting injured and focusing on getting better again.

“I’m going to do everything in my power to get healthy and make it back to the court, where I’ll most likely get hurt again, unless I get hurt in the locker room before I can make it back to the court. Injuries happen, but at this point I’ve already got my mind trained on being healthy for the 25 or so games I’ll be able to play in the 2024-25 season while dealing with multiple nagging foot and back ailments before the team shuts me down for the season, at which point I’ll look forward to giving my all for whatever team the Thunder trades me to after the front office gives up on me.”

Holmgren also assured fans that he plans on being one of the NBA’s biggest-ever “what-if” stories by the time he retires after nine injury-plagued seasons on four teams.

The thing that sticks out is apparently he was very cagey about releasing his injury history to teams before the draft. I hope he has a long and productive career but it's got to suck for the OKC fans.

I hope he recovers. I think when looking at these guys with such unique body types, you always have to be careful.

Alot of guys who are over 7 feet and have these unique proportions (KP, Chet, Bradley) seem to have injuries.

I hope you’re right. As I said, I love watching him play

All I will say is he will miss the entire year berceuse a significant foot injury. It looked like he broke more than he got injured from trauma. When he plays again he’s landing on that foot…

I guess in researching this more, a lisfranc injury isn’t necessarily a sports death sentence. But please note that it wasn’t very long ago that it was considered that

Darren McFadden had it in football, destroyed his career, Raiders fans still refer to him as Mr Glass

Incredible how when I say “i don’t want to turn it into this”, I can always rely on you to write 37 pages to take it ‘there’

Again, not very long ago lisfranc injury was considered a sports death sentence

The only athlete of note that I can think of that sprang back from A LISFRANC INJURY is Julio Jones. Is there another name I’m forgetting?

I’m no doctor but a foot injury isn’t necessarily as severe as a lisfranc injury

You take me places!!! LOL…….

Seems like these unicorns have a special mobility to them and then an injury levels the playing field to bring them down to earth. KP played hard and really had some great instinctive movements. He go all out and twist that ankle a few times that was scary. But he played hard, played like a smaller dude.
Chet similar. Im no physiologist but Im seeing redundancy but they are different issues. Marrkkeennneennn has not fully put it together, Oden, KP, Shwan Bradley, Sampson and more. Dmarcus Cousins ACL right before hitting a 100 mil pay day!!!!
Then there was Zbo, and Derrick Coleman who stayed grounded but lasted long!

They wanted Porzingis 2.0 they got him
MS @ 8/28/2022 4:45 PM
What would it take to get SGA?

Presti usually gets the world. But he’s 6’6 and versatile. They may want to tank again and get this French kid with Chet gone for the year.

I'm not sure I would want Shai. He's been losing for a long time and it doesn't seem to bother him much. He has talent but he's surrounded by scraps for the most part.
