Anyone care to explain how they can do this with Darius Garland signed to a Designated Rookie Extension? Is it because the extension term hasn't started? Does this mean they cannot offer Evan Mobley a Designated Rookie Max Extension?

For me, I am fine with what we have. Felt all along many forgot we did not have a true PG last year. And that when we had Payton and Rose we were a 4. Just hoping Brunson can take the heat here in NY. Tough place to play. Also hoping Rose stays healthy. If so, feel the other issue, ie Randle's attitude/play and IQ's and RJ's slow starts will be fixed. Think Grimes will have a break out year as well. We may need another solid 2 way SF that can shoot. Not sure if Cam is that.

Yeah, I thought you could only trade once for a rookie max extension and have only two on the roster at the same time. Assuming they feel Mobley is a keeper, I think another move is happening down the road.
Wonder what this means for the Lakers- do they still send Westbrook to the Jazz with 2 firsts for whatever mix the Jazz have, or was the Knick component important to them?

I don't think Cleve gave up that much from their POV. Those picks will be middling. Swaps, depending on how far they are, likely mean nothing as well. I expect Clev's pick to worse than Utah's in the foreseeable future. I give Knicks a B+. Although they showed great patience at the negotiating table. They could've nipped this in the bid a month ago and told Ainge to go Phuck himself.

Naw, the Jazz/Lakers never really needed us to deal. It probably means Cam's dreams of stylin' and profiling with Lakers are dead for the time being with Lakers draft stock likely being stripped to the bone by Ainge.

Agreed- for us we’d be gambling hugely that a D-Mitch and Brunson backcourt combo would work and if it didn’t, we’d be screwed (and lets be honest, think there was a fair chance it wouldn’t. Cavs have much more defensive chops with Allen, Mobley and Okoro to make up for having such a short backcourt- it makes much more sense for them.
Our roster would have made little sense with D-Mitch, Brunson, RJ, Randle and Mitch
Not mad at all! Actually happy we held firm and did not get bullied into making this crippling trade! You simply do not trade an unprotected pick in 2027 unless you're getting an MVP level player in return. Spida is a good player but he is not Giannis or KD. He himself isn't moving the needle. At best he's Melo 2.0 and remember we won 17, 31 and 32 games with Melo. Same shit could've happened with Spida! I for one was not willing to take that risk and I'm glad Leon and co. agreed!
And personally I wanna see RJ, Obi and Grimes grow here!
Spida is not the end all be all. Another star will become available in a few weeks. Hopefully their GM is a greedy prick!

What I take is first the majority of what has been reported is horses#!t. Shocking. Second, I continue to grow faith in the FO that they are not same old Knicks inclined - to make dumb splashy deals that ruin us just to appease the mob. Lastly, the deal makes more sense for the Cavs who were further along than us. Mitchell wasn’t a game changer for us and I strongly suspect a deal for him would guarantee a mediocre to average near future.
But let’s see what happens now - excited for the season!

I’d love for us to pivot to either SGA or OG, I know they’re not flashy but they would be way better fits for this team. Don’t see it happening though. Think it’s better to get rid of Randle, go full youth route and maybe we end up with a good pick in this years draft if we fall short
And can i just say, all those owners crying to the press about the ‘player empowerment era’ going to far and how something must be done because players under contract should not be able to demand trades- here D-Mitch signed a long term deal with the Jazz, then they turn round and trade him with 3 years to go to a team he didn’t want to go to. Shameless double standards!

I really like Donovan Mitchell as a human being, so I hoped he would end up here. But, the price was too much. I don't think Cleveland made a great decision giving up Agbaji, 3 unprotected and 2 swaps. I think they overstate their ranking in the league. I think it is smart that those don't kick in until 3 years from now when their young core should be better developed, but man, I think they paid too much. They don't have much downside protection.

No way that is Rose's goal. He wants to win now. I cant take another tank year just to be disappointed at the draft.
Think the yoot that deserves to play will and has played. Grimes and IQ are proof. Think they will have bigger roles this year. Before I give up on Randle and the current roster, I want to see how much impact a high level PG has. As we saw with Rose, it makes a big difference in everyone's play. No reason to think that a back court of Brunson/Rose will not have a better affect than Payton/Rose.
Im both disappointed we don't have DM but at the same time proud our FO held ground to not bet the ranch. Perhaps if we did not have Brunson we go get DM but we drew a line in the sand and Leon was not going to pay the asking price. He didn't with Gordan Haywood, and im sure there were others.
Dolan did not trip overhimself to get an allstar to fill up the place. Instead logic won the day.
First off 3 unprotected is a lot and we did not want to go there. Second, Ochai Agbaji might be really good like right away. This was no throw in. He was the 14th pick this year.
Sexton will still need to be paid or play it out. He will be rusty for a while but he is a good player. Markkennenneeenneen, well, some unicorns are more expendible than others.
Really, Danny did quite well for himself. With Mobley, Garland and Allen they have a very very good core and now have a good piece to make them very interesting. This was a good trade for them to do. Both teams got what they wanted.
It was not a great fit for the knicks. Im good.

I think they do- Mobley has huge value round the league, as does Garland, and likely so does Allen. If the current mix doesn’t work, they can easily upgrade or adjust or cash in those players for picks
