Knicks · The Mitchell offseason drama is finally over! He is gone, where does the knicks go from here? (page 1)

Jimbo5 @ 9/1/2022 8:10 PM
Im disappointed that the knicks lost out on Mitchell but im happy the knicks averted another melo type trade living the team in limbo.

Will the FO pivot or is this the team that will fight next season? I wish they find a way to unload Randle and Fournier. I will be pissed if Fournier will see major minutes and be a started relagating Grimes to the bench. They wouldn't let go of grimes in a trade but wont let him have a major role? I hope there are still some minor moves to come. What could that be?

BRIGGS @ 9/1/2022 8:21 PM
Need to focus on season. We have some big changes along w continuity need to focus on first twenty games
Knicksfan @ 9/1/2022 8:26 PM
Keep growing from within. If Grimes becomes who everyone thinks, RJ keeps improving and the rest of the kids improve, our chances to make a trade for the next disgruntled star improve.

Just, I don’t know, find a way to trade Randle. Won’t happen, but I’d like to.

Jimbo5 @ 9/1/2022 8:33 PM
Can the knicks send send Fournier and Cam to the Lakers on a 3 team deal? Lakers have nothing to offer outside their picks. Randle to the hornets? Focus on the youth and let them grow.

We go where we go every year:
Fans overhype their unproven players.
Season starts then reality kicks in.
Fans scream for a tank and to let yoots play.
Yoots not that good but we win the last two games that moves us out of the lottery.
The rookies that play well for two games are then considered future stars and untradable.
After fucking up the tank we get the 12th pick.
Briggs posts a million "my can't miss pick" threads.
We draft another unproven kid that nobody wanted.
NY media claims every high level FA is coming.
NY fans say they all suck and are overpriced.
No big name comes here and we overpay for average players.
Knicks fans overhype their unproven players.

Knicks groundhog day.

You know what works trade wise?

Lakers get: Fourier, Randle, Rose, Cam.
Knicks get: Westbrook, Nunn, pick?

Jimbo5 @ 9/1/2022 8:57 PM
The old FO would have gotten a deal done with the Jazz but will leave the roster bare with no picks to improve. This front office stood their ground leaving the knicks empty handed with still a boat load of draft capital.

This FO should find a good balance next time around. Even if the knicks got better with Brunson, seems like the knicks are still heading for the lottery for the next Jaden Ivey target that they will not get.

If by some miracle SGA suddenly becomes available, i hope this FO can make that deal. A Brunson, SGA, RJ back court will be amazing!

Lakers have no internet in Randle. I think baest landing spot for Randle is the Hornets for Oubre, Plumlee and maybe PJ Washington?

If they can somehow send Fournier and Cam to the Lakers, that may be ok. But what will you get from the lakers? Nunn will complicate the rotation once more

The current regime had cap room, picks, and some building blocks in place, when they took the job. Because the previous regime did precisely the opposite of what you described.

Westbrook isn't the player he was and never was that good from 3 or on d. Let him end his career somewhere else.

KnickDanger @ 9/1/2022 9:21 PM
I know some want to tank, many want to get rid of Randle and probably Thibs. Some are excited or at least optimistic about the young ones me included. Yeah I'm a much burned Knicks fan but this build doesn't just feel different, it is different. The outcome isn't guaranteed but those offering lame "same old Knicks" aren't telling the truth. My idea -- let's take the preseason and a double digit amount of games and see what we have and then go from there.

We need to stop with the melo trade narrative. The Knicks gave up hardly anything. A 1st round pick, a pick swap and a couple of players who didn’t amount to much. It was everything that followed that was the issue. That deal was a steal compared to todays price of a star. But that being said the Knicks have a lot of pressure now to deliver with their young guys. This was a major miss regardless of price because it was there for the taking. Now the Knicks must prove they held onto these guys for a reason.

You can't look at old deals in todays market. You need to look at them in the market the time it was done. It was a lot to give up then.

The narrative around the Melo trade is so ignorant. We gave up an ok wing player in Gallo, picks and two scrubs Mozgov and Wilson Chandler

Turns out Ainge wanted RJ plus Grimes plus a crapload of picks. Plus they wouldn’t take back EF or Randle. I don’t blame the regime for not pulling the trigger

And it all worked out so great in the aftermath?
DOn’t forget the pick that became Murray. But don’t let details ever get in the way for painting others ignorant when your doing just fine on your own.
Clean made a good point that you have to look at the moment. Like Melo had an opt out, was wallking into a strike summer and needed minor knee surgery. He had a sense of urgency and leverage. He could have walked for nothing.
He also stated he wanted new york. PhilC, why not try to digest that instead of repeating the same stupid shit.
Previous Regime? Phil Jax had just two of 4 picks to work with.

Naturally had we just drafted DM all this would be different. But it don’t work that way.

Im sure like most of your prognostications this one will also fall flat.

wargames @ 9/1/2022 10:52 PM
Fred Katz mentioned OG Anunoby but said the price would be very high so I doubt it. He also mentioned Harrison Barnes and Kuzma. Of those two Kuzma makes the most sense. He has a player option the wizards probably don’t want to pay, he has history with Randle, he would probably find NY fashion scene his thing, and he is a CAA client. The wizards have a bunch of young forwards behind him on the depth chart, and if they let him and KP walk they would have a max slot to go after a FA in 2023. Also the Knicks have rights to one of their picks they might want back so there is already a foot in the door.

He wouldn’t get the Knicks over the bar as a contender, but he would be a upgrade over Fournier defensively. The Knicks wings would be RJ, Kuzma, Grimes, and Reddish… Four good to very good defenders to throw at everybody.

I don’t think the wizards would be open to it now. They re-signed Beal and will at least make an attempt to be good this year. However if they struggle I could see them going tank mode and cutting Kuzma quick.
