Same!
martin @ 9/7/2022 9:14 PM
If Thibs can get Hart to channel Joakim Noah, I think Knicks have a legit starting C who will LOVE playing with RJ, Brunson and even Randle.

He can pass but also PnRs sooooo well. His use of space will make Mitch’s athleticism in that same role be an after thought.

Same here. I was the jerk in Jan/Feb starting a new Brunson thread everyday. All things considered, he will have a bigger impact on this team than Mitchell ever would, simply because of his playmaking and scoring efficiency. He also seems to have another level to reach, but we will see. It’s a shame this Mitchell stuff deflated all of the momentum around adding an ideal fit at a position the Knicks haven’t been able to fill in decades.

one of the things that helped 2 years ago was Noel was a force from the 5. I think w Robinson and Hartenstein we will have 48 min of force again on both sides from the 5.

And then you have the PG spot too… over the past 2 seasons the Knicks only had a legit PG for 4 months, and now IMHO the Knicks have 3 legit guys who can run the show in Brunson, Rose, and IQ.

No idea how good the Knicks can be but I think they’ll be super fun to watch grow.

Hoping for best with Hart but think I read somewhere he has a very high foul rate.

Combine that with ref treatment of our Knicks and could - lots of foul trouble for Hart

Thibs ran the 4the most pick and rolls in the league without even having a legit starting PG. The only way to go is up.

I love these signings - especially Brunson. I think we make the playoffs this season, but need another good move to go deep in the spring.
blkexec @ 9/8/2022 7:14 AM
Hartenstein looks more like a starter than a backup in these highlights. Mitch better watch his back and don’t slack off.

How about some of this:

I know, nothing like youtube hightlights to make the scouting report.
First off, good for him and us that he has this clear role. We his 5th team and he is 24.
Last year with Clippers he had a defined role avg 17 min a game. Prior year he hada. 16 game stint with Clev he played the same. He is young still.
His per 36 foul rate last eyar came down to 4.9. Rookie year was 9. He is foul prone. Thibs is gonna pull him an straighten him out.
His assists are encouraging. This will be a process.

He went 14 for 30 in 3pts all last year. 56 games avg 17 min per game.

I like the potential. I reckon he is not on the German Natonal team playing eurobasket? Working on his game? His girl? LOL.

If he can push Mitch all the better. I like this kind of signing as it takes a player who got moved around a bit and perhaps Clippers got in a salary squeeze and let him walk. Not sure Jokic is worried yet but I hope his play surges and he creates a “Center controversy” because he is so good.

Hartenstein has a very strange history and he is exactly the type of player that fell through the cracks and just was in an unfortunate spot with teams during his career.

Broke into league in 2018 on a Houston team with CP3 and Harden with MDA running the show. Clint Capalla was thriving at the C spot and Hart was dominating the GLeague at the time. Realistically, MDA goes small with his lineups and you aren't going to get playing time or opportunity on a deep playoff team as a rookie and second year backup C (Tyson Chandler also on the 2019-20 team).

In 2020 he signs with Denver to backup Jokic in a dream role with a dream role model of a mirror player. Denver is also a top team with Jokic and Jamal Murray and Porter Jr in their COVID run. Got traded to CLE for vet JaVale McGee; not an unreasonable move for Denver even considering Hart's potential and fit behind Jokic.

FINALLY gets consistent playing time in Cleveland behind Jarret Allen over the course of 18 minutes a game for about 15 games; plays WELL. Aaaaannnndddd Cleveland drafts Mobley (and trade for Lauri Markkanen) and Hart is out of a job.

Lands with the Clippers for the 2021-22 season to back up Zubac and plays 18 minutes a game and really starts to feel it at the end of the season when coaches tell him to unleash the 3point shooting.

Clippers this past offseason are LOADED but don't have a backup PG.... John Wall gets Hart's roster spot cause they literally have room for 1 guy with their MLE money.

He is now a Knicks player because of all of that. I think he made the right decision. Joakim Noah 2.0 and he will shine if he can keep up.

Andy - where do you find that kind of stat? Do they show how many offball screens he ran?

Feel like the offense is pretty stagnant isolation basketball where the ball handler calls a screen and then Robinson meanders to his box out knowing no pass is coming. Wondering how many times we are off ball screens to free up the high efficiency shooter (in this offense, that’s Fournier)?

Knixkik @ 9/8/2022 8:21 AM
C Mitch/ Hart
PF Randle/ Toppin
SF Barrett/ Fournier
SG Grimes/ IQ
PG Brunson/ Rose

I’m looking forward to this rotation in general. It’s deep with no obvious flaws other than not having a true star player it’s built around. It really comes down to how it comes together and what jump the young guys take and how Randle recovers. A lot of questions but you can see a strong lineup with upside. The backcourt especially if Grimes is starting alongside Brunson.

Cue the many "Hart needs to start thread." Or the "Thibs doesn't play the yoot" threads when he plays Hart exactly the same amount he has been averaging in the NBA.

Watched some Clip games last year. He is very good at diving to the basket off the ball. Has a good shot, handle for a big man. He will block a shot but no way he is close to MR motor and quickness on defense. Things like speed of elevation, extension on blocks and defensive reads are ones that make you appreciate MR. Do think Hart will fill in nicely with second unit and if needed when Mitch gets in fouls trouble.

And luckily the Knicks have Jericho in the gym practicing his offensive moves and jump shots waiting on BOTH Mitch and Hart getting into foul trouble so he can do some of this:

Think Thibs likes him for his defense. And with the foul issues both MR and Hart have, do not think he will have trouble getting minutes. One thing to consider is Hart taking some backup PF. Please edit that last sentence though. We do not want the Obi crowd having to be rushed to the hospital.
Do think Thibs has options with those three depending on circumstance. Most likely scenario is that Sims is there in case of injury. See this?
MR-Hart
Randle- Obi
RJ-Cam
EF-Grimes
JB-Rose? IQ?
Sims
Mcbribe
Keels
Hunt

Question is where IQ will get minutes? Does Thibs plan on playing him in a small lineup at 3?
Makes sense why the Knicks were looking to include him in a trade. If we can believe that. Don't want to see Rose go but seems like if Knicks are committed to Grimes at the SG, it's either IQ or Rose that should be dealt. Secondly, is Thibs okay with Cam as a backup SF? Think he should be.
