Knicks · Whoa, Berman is done covering Knicks for NY Post (page 1)

After covering the Knicks for 23 straight seasons that featured 227 Knicks players and 14 head coaches, this is the last shot and last call. I’ll be evolving away from The Post and heading to the palm trees of paradise.

I’ll really miss him. The Post is where I followed Knicks basketball since around the time he started and before the internet was as easy to follow everything. He sure creates controversy but I believe in some areas his sources for Knicks news were as good as any. He nailed last years draft with grimes and McBride for example. He writes a lot of puff pieces, mainly around players coming to town and how the Knicks might be interested in them, but generally his articles peak my interest. It really is an end of an era I view like a long time nba player who I followed retiring.

Definitely an end of an era

Herring gone, Isola Gone, now Berman… it’s an end to a era. I know he took a break recently so I hope everything with him and his family is well

If Bagley, Woj, all that left it’s dark times. Even Hahn is basically PR at this point.

I read that this morning and thought I missed something

Goodbye Bermanbury, best of luck

martin @ 9/26/2022 9:44 AM
I still love this one

I don't think Begley is all that bad and Fred Katz is solid with the Althletic. Honestly, Berman has kind of been trash IMHO the past few years. I appreciated how accessible he's been to the fans, but I rarely found his articles informative. He was better than Isola, but that doesn't say much.

Best writer is Jonathan macri. His daily subscription content is great and he’s very in-depth. He is positive but a realist. And he does provide a bit of insider information

I wish Berman the best in life. I know his mother was sick this summer so he has to take time off. That is a hard situation for everyone who experiences it. On the NY media standpoint, we still got Ian Begley so we will be more than fine. Begley is the best of the NY Media guys. He was one of the first to report the interest the Jazz had in RJ when all reports said otherwise.

Was it my constant donut references/jokes?

Tbh, it is the end of an era. Never liked his constant negative take. But understand that it was his way of feeding a big part of the fan base who was always negative. A good strategy if you are trying to sell papers and get attention.
Probably moving on as the 18-year-old bloggers, who know nothing about basketball, but know how to get clicks are taking over.

Wish him luck. Hope he stays healthy.

martin @ 9/26/2022 10:49 AM
By the phrasing of his post, my guess is that he is moving on from the NY Post and may be still covering the Knicks but perhaps not going on the road and taking a big step back.

We shall see.

I never really liked or enjoyed reading Berman tbh. Many times I felt he would purposely try to make up stuff (especially when things were getting good) to try to create controversy and drama. I think it's a big reason why the media is not welcomed at the Garden and I truthfully do not blame them.
But Berman was probably instructed by his paper to sell papers so his replacement will try to do the same so whatever. Wish him the best.

He didn't even need to be told, it is literally his job to sell paper and get clicks

Damn, martin calls Berman a shill and a week later he's done.

What a flex!

I know but as a fan I want my team covered like the NYT or WSJ and not the National Inquirer.

EwingsGlass @ 9/26/2022 11:15 AM
I wish Berman well. Might be worth one last Marbury article.

i hope his health is good, and if not i will wish well for that -- but that's the extent of the well wishes

Just don't appreciate the negativity at all.

Seems true of many sports reporters working for the NY Post, IMO.

Zach Braziller, who I had some contact with when he was working for the Queens Courier doing HS sports, seems to be less provocative than other NY Post reporters. I hope he isn't "corrupted," and emerges as a more rational & less sensational reporter covering the Knicks.
