Cavs had the #1 pick 3 times from 2011-2014.
No benevolent god is sending innocent kids to Cleveland at that clip!
The Cavs getting the #1 pick immediately after losing Lebron. Gee nothing fishy there guys

People think entire presidential elections are rigged now but a bs draft lottery that is never aired live on tv anymore being rigged by the nba - now that’s impossible
Nobody said either was impossible. But no proof either. People who think elections are rigged want to believe that.
Has it ever happend? Of course. Where? Don’t know. Do you?
Just because a lot people want to believe something does not validate it.
Fucking heat sticking in there. Hate to say it but I dislike Grant more than Jimmy.
Go Heat? Yeesh

They won 19 games.
They drafted Kyrie.
Next year they won 21 games.
Its called math.

NBA wants to make money and eliminate tanking? I hate the lottery, but make a tournament for the top pick to run with the playoffs (best of 3 series or lose and leave style) or flip the script and the team with the best regular season record in the lotto gets the best chance at the #1 pick.
The way they have it now encourages losing. Never understood it.

What about this
So tank the year before, then improve.
Also, the three teams that improve the least, then they get to pick 4-5-6, etc?
The lottery helps the teams ownership, not the players. The coach I get incentivized to keep his job. GM should, but the year before?
I hate the tank, but if Detroit got reminded it does not always work. They got Cade. Sometimes you get the top pick, sometimes you fall.
Some teams have bad luck. If so, some teams have good luck.
Dallas found themselves in a weird scenario that losing kept their pick from conveying. It was ugly, that I admit.
League needs to address it going forward. To deny Dallas the pick without precedence would be unfair. The knick fan in me wanted it but you can’t exact justice without it.

I like the part about no lottery back to back...that's interesting, but it also means a team like Sacremento or the Knicks would probably be in the running for the 1st pick. And while selfishly, I think it's great, on the fair spectrum it is not helping the teams that need it and it's like time delaying the help. If a team improves that drastically, that means they don't need the help and are already on the right track. I think there has to be a cutoff, and I think the playoffs are a good one. I think they just need to tweak the process. I would get rid of the lottery all together. It removes all bullshit conspiracy theories.
I think the way I proposed leaves responsibility directly on teams and doesn't leave room to question the integrity of the game. You win, you get the top pick. Maybe top 3 in the tournament get the top 3 picks and from there down. IDK, i kinda just feel there has to be a better way.
^^. Not sure that would work for reasons Nalod was alluding too
At the extreme tank one year to get zero wins. So of course the next year you’re the most improved
I think making odds flatter and more random will improve. Also nba screwed things up by not slamming Dallas. Cuban is a billionaire. Mavs are multibillion operation. They should have taken away their pick
Even SA tanked but in a less blunt way. They traded away all their top guys. Worked for them, not for Utah though
That said, i think fixing the salary cap is more important than fixing the draft. Given taxes and cost of living etc a million in NYC is not the same as most other places

But in your example - with Wemby coming out this year.
Couldn’t a very good team like say the Bucks - completely tank the 2022 season with the intention of posting a great win differential with a great 2023 record.
When there is a great player in draft - teams would find ways to tank regardless if it’s a year earlier.

The nba draft lottery encourages losing and it hasn’t stopped tanking. It also gives fans of bad teams another loss that’s not even during the regular season because they have to watch the hornets or spurs get the top pick after they endured an entire season of dumpster fire
The NFL draft is the way to do it. Worst team gets the top pick. If the nfl had the draft lottery anytime the patriots, cowboys or Steelers miss the playoffs coincidentally they are getting the top pick and you better not question it

Tanking is a hard thing to solve but I rather genuinely bad teams get higher picks. The Grizz who had a really good team moved up and got Ja over legit bad teams. That is not good for the NBA. The Pistons are legit bad and moved back.
Detroit already got Cade and they made moves last draft. Plus some other trades getting lottery talent. Time for them to take pick 5 and start winning. Don't feel sorry for them. They got how many lottery picks on their roster now ?

I forgot Cade was a number 1 pick. I don't don't see him as a number 1 pick player.

They had the luck to pick first, therefore, let them start winning. They shouldn't merit another top pick for several years

Even so… we should still trade for him. What do you guys think?

The nets turned down 4 picks from the Grizz right after they got him and that was before his star turn. A Bridges trade won't come until he is a year away from free agency and he tells them he is gone.

Obviously it was rigged again. San Antonio is a deceptively large market (2nd biggest in TX, 7th in the US) and Pop is easily the guy you want developing the next great big man but I’m actually glad about the result. Wemby is not in the East so he won’t get in our way
Yep, all of it. Peter Holt has a ton of undercurrent with the NBA
Have to admit - Wemby to Spurs felt way to well placed. You have the Pop leaving if they don’t get #1, you have the Duncan/Robinson #1 overall history and the French history with Parker/Diaw…maybe missing someone else.
I don’t know - try to tell myself this stuff isn’t fixed but this just felt too perfect.
Knixkik wrote:Zach Lowe says he doubts Portland’s #3 and simons is enough to get Anunoby or bridges. I honestly doubt Toronto would pass on that , but if it’s even close to being true then the Knicks asset package isn’t netting a major upgrade.
Unless Miller’s draft stock has tanked - if he is there at #3 plus Simon’s - not sure how Toronto passes there unless it;s Siakam they want to move instead. Another angle is they don’t want to pay Simon’s if they don’t believe he’s a true point.
Not sure they would want both Simon’s / Scoot if he drops to 3.

They can do that already? Just straight take a year and tank.
