We not only got a bargain— well have to see if we have an mvp candidate in our hands. Not necessarily the best player but perhaps the most valuable
I think for those accolades his defense would need to be better.

Brunson has been everything you could ask for and more. Knicks may not have the best player on the court a lot, but Brunson is probably the most trustworthy player on most nights. He just hits big shots when it counts and doesn’t make mistakes. He’s a major game-changer. More then a guy like d Mitchell would be for this specific team.
Without Brunson we probably get blown out at home facing a short handed hornets team last night instead of getting the W

He made Dennis smith jr look like a valuable nba player for any team. I was actually thinking we need deuce off the bench to ruff up DSJ a bit and shake up his confidence. Because DSJ was able to do whatever he wanted against JB. Thank God DSJ still can’t shoot 3s or we lose this game. JB should get the AI treatment. Pair JB with a defensive guard and let the defensive guard defend the best guard. The problem is Umbre is 6’7 ish so JB couldn’t guard him so Cam was our best option. But this reveals our weakness at the guard positions and why EF should play more with the second unit and put JB next to Grimes or Cam.
Last year, there is no way this team wins that game yesterday. Randle was doing his usual good play, and then stupid play routine. RJ was driving for tough layups and only making half of them. The difference was instead of having an Alec Burks that might be able to hit a shot now and then but could not really setup anyone, we now have a competent PG who can move the defense, create mismatches, generally create an easy (or at least easier) scoring opportunity for his teammates, and hit a big shot. Brunson is probably the 2nd best 3 point shooter on the team and is the best low-mid post scorer.
Brunson please forgive me for ever doubting whether you were worth $25 million a season. He is underpaid.

To be fair, DSJ has been playing well so far. You can argue he played better the game before against Atlanta. But I agree,it'd be nice if we could handcuff JB with a decent 3&D guard. If only we had one 🤔

Thats all well and good but JB still has to cover the opponents 2 guard who likley then has height advantage.
This is why Brunson is not a max player.
To his credit Dennis is a bull. That him and Frank are still at it (still young) is good to see. Dennis is a NC kid with family nearby. Hope he can earn a good contract and fulfill some of the promise he had coming out of high school.

I think its been exactly as advertised... he's a good team defender and player. He will make plays and get steals and challenge the jumper because he's always in the right spot. He's also short and simply doesnt have the speed to hang with the elite guards of the league and that is what it is.
I dont expect Brunson to be clamp down guy on opposing guards. Its not his game. He's a good team defender and ideally we see someone else defend the other teams best players. So far that's been RJ with mixed results. There will be times he needs help.
The guy he reminds me of is Lowry. He went to 6 all star games. Brunson may not quiet be the defender Lowry was but he may also be a better offensive player. Regardless its pretty clear we got "a guy" and we really needed that, especially after wasting cap space the year before. They somehow got a do over and it was low cost.

They'll just have to float him around to whatever player poses the lesser threat on offense. It's done all the time. We saw it two years ago when the Hawks stuck Trade on Bullock. The good thing is that JB still gives the effort and physicality. The coaches will have to figure out schemes to lessen JBs defensive weaknesses.
