Knicks · The Cam rotation dilemma when Grimes comes back (page 1)

I think Grimes eventually starts and Cam will either have the light bulb finally turn on or it's over for him.

wargames @ 10/31/2022 12:34 PM
To be fair in both the bad shot examples time was running out and he had to throw something up. It wasn’t a good thing he did but there is a reason why at least.

Grimes healthy gets minutes. Honestly Fournier needs to be traded and RJ needs less minutes as well. The Knicks need to gather assets and wait for a star player worth trading for… that isn’t being offered to them in a robbery trade scenario.

Grimes seems to have onee of those mysterious foot injuries. Will we see him by the play in?

Question is, how many years do you think it will take for Cam to achieve his alleged potential? Think Bball IQ takes many years. If that is longer than Knicks are willing to commit to, you play Grimes(who they are committed to) EF and Rose (who are older and slightly better) and shelf Cam until he has another opportunity.

100% disagree. Both of the bad clips had outlets for him. Cam put his head down and dribbled out the clock and flung up some bad shots.

This is what separates potential from professionals who grow and get contract extensions.

There is no dilemma. While Reddish has played well enough to not be garbage and he certainly looks better than Knox, the fact remains he is no where close to Grimes. Grimes will need about 10 games to get back into the swing of things but by game 11, we will forget about Reddish. Knicks should trade Reddish at the deadline, since it appears RJ is here to stay.

The Cam rotational dilemna, is about Cam looking like an NBA rotational player one trip up the court, and a rec leaguer the next. As I wrote in the gamethread, Cam plays like he's walking on a tightrope. Can get ugly real fast, and does from time to time. Cam looked like he was progressing. Yet in a game the team, the FO, had extra incentive to win. Cam played at times like he was oblivious to his role.

Grimes should be ahead of Cam, no doubt. Players Cam's age (and older) have gone to G league to work on their game. Trey Burke asked to be sent to G-league, he came back a more disciplined player. Might have saved his career. Cam needs time to learn to play in control, to make better decisions.
Time that the Knicks might not be able to give him in the rotation.

When Grimes come back.”

It’s not between Grimes and Cam; it’ll be between a vet in Fournier who knows how to play and can make shots versus a potential type player who can give you much better defensive and some sporadically good plays with the same amount of back breaking ones that you have to make a long term decision on soon.

Unpopular opinion:

I would look to move RJ Barrett mid season and "develop" Cam Reddish

BigDaddyG @ 10/31/2022 7:42 PM
Saw this on Reddit and it sums up Cam's biggest issue neatly. He a gunner and he don't give a Phuck. There are dudes who play less minutes and pass more than he does. He makes RJ look like Mark Jackson. The highlights are entertaining and looks really smooth when he's on. But he still doesn't get it. Maybe he needs to take the DSJ path to enlightenment.

Unfortunately Reddish hasn’t been good since game 1 (a loss) with a ton of opportunity. So his time might be ending.

Definitely an unpopular opinion. Cam’s best case scenario might be rookie year RJ at this point.

and I get it....I personally believe RJ has hit his ceiling. I see the same exact player from last season and I would be looking to cut ties sooner rather than later.

Not a huge fan of Cam Reddish but you can see the athleticism and creativity in him. It would be a step back but his potential is bigger than RJ

It seems like people are down on RJ every year around this time and all of that gets erased by the middle of the season. This is a yearly early season discussion.

Cam has potential, but there are dozens of players playing in the G-League, China or wherever that have potential. He has to put it together. I know he's had some good games but he's done nothing to make me forget that Grimes is coming back to take his minutes. I have no problem with Cam pushing and creating in transition. But I do not really trust him in the halfcourt.

Easy solution: get Fournier out of the rotation
Chandler @ 11/1/2022 10:18 AM
i see it as EF and Grimes at the 2, and Cam and RJ at the 3

personally, i prefer RJ at the 2 so he can use his size, but i suspect we'll see a lot of minutes with RJ and Grimes on the floor with Grimes playing 2

If Cam wants my advice stop trying to dribble penetrate so much. Run the floor, play D, keep it simple(r)

Where do you see IQ when Rose plays?

The bold isnt quite the right question... but it's really close.

I think the right questions are kind of 2 parts:

Part I
Will Thibs and crew be able to accurately see his potential?
Will they be able to coach him there if it's high?
Will they be able to gauge how long? (resigning him over prioritizing other guys)

Part II
Its possible Part I takes all year and ends with "I dont think Cam is our guy."
Is that risk/reward worth shelving the good play you know will get from Fournier most nights?

IQ is just a guard. SO if Rose is on the court i'd say he'd be a 2, but with the way Rose sometimes can shoot lately maybe Rose is the 2 -- sort of who cares when the 2 of them on court together.
