Knicks · How can we compare a Carmelo Anthony deal to a Donovan Mitchell deal when Mitchell is so much younger (pull the trigger?) (page 1)
Everyone was saying if we gave away 6 - 7 picks and Grims and Obi or RJ our team would be nothing. We now watching the team maybe we should have pulled the trigger. First of all Randle still haven't learned not to dribble into a crowd because they will take the ball. None of the players on the Knicks is a super star so Donovan will be our first. We could still get some picks for next season and free agents because Donovan and Bronson is here.We should have done the deal now that I see what we really have.
Water under the bridge.
Past is past.
Why are we still talking about this?
Next.
If for some reason the DM trade didnt work out. Brunson/Mitchell didnt work as a backcourt. Or DM had trouble staying on the court. We would be in big trouble. Capped out, few picks, and a gutted roster. The FO didnt want to take that risk. Im glad they didnt.
We're still in a good position to make a deal to upgrade the roster. That fact seems to get lost in the debate. We're still in the game!

What statistic was that? Please share. Because my eyeball test remembers quite a different story.

It had to do with Melo's 4th quarter completion pct. with just a few seconds left in the game. Was the best at the time of the trade. Melo was a clutch shooter the first few seasons in NY. With Amar'e missing a lot of games, and Chandler not being a force on offense, Melo carried most of the load. By the time Melo left he was worn down.
Melo could have gotten some help when he signed his last big deal, to bring in better players. But he went for the $$$, as well as a no trade clause, and a 15 percent trade kicker.
Many stars with rings, gave up big bucks at the negotiating table, Melo didnt.
Melo was 26 (and 9 months) when we traded for him.
Mitchell is now 26 (and 2 months).
Melo was the better player, warts and all, at time of trade. All of this is irrelevant. We did not trade for Mitchell and don't currently have the option to do so. Hope we don't have to hear about him after every loss.

Media narrative? Thats all you got? How did the team do in the aftermath of the trade? Real results not “Media Narrative”.
Apparently the guys they traded away are better than anyone we currently have on our roster.
Markekkan 22.4pts 9.7rbs 27th PER & Sexton is 90th in PER
RJ & Julius not in the top 150. Brunson is 55.
We don’t have impact talent here right now.
Philc1 wrote:Despite the media narrative we didn’t give up that much for Carmrlo
What media narrative? We had 2 first rounds we got embarrassed in and we got handled really well in a second round. We gave up our ability to build a team for someone that didn’t take us far (as I said would be the case well before the trade.)
Maybe you saw the media had a narrative. The Knicks, in fact, were never anything special with Melo. One solid season that ended with a easyish second round exit and one Linsanity run that had nothing to do with Melo and everything to do with the fact that the Knicks were absolutely positively sucking @$$ up to that point with and without Melo.

It's interesting how Nalod always has to have one user to bully at a time. Currently it's Philc1.
Previously it was knicks1728 or whatever his handle was. For a short time it was Briggs.
It's a bit stalker-like

It is interesting.
Its also interesting that some of you let inaccurate shit slide and that creates more fans digesting falsehoods and the spew it out as facts.
You call it “bullying”. I call it fact checking.
Phil can say 20 things but do I “bully” all of it?
Fact is he has gotten better as he is not making up shit.
When others call him out is it bullying?
Martin calls out bullshit all the time but he lets us mostly self monitor. If not it dies. You see others sites come and go because you get a few participants who just relentlessly make shit up.
Dont’ forget orangeblob man, TMS, and Playa2. I don’t ban anyone nor control a thing around here. But I call out bullshit as should most of you. This is our place to discuss and learn. Making shit up like you in the room or in Thibs head should be called out. State “ I think Thibs might be thinking” is so easy and does not reek of BS. We all read the same stuff. If you come up with something its actually a good thing to site the source. Especiall stats.
Notice when I go after a hard BS line I back it with a stat? The actual link? Does PhilC often defend it? No. Does he deflect the subject? Yes.
Have I have ever been wrong? Yes, and I admit it. Why? Whats the point of doubling down. Some of the posters when called out don’t. Its an ego thing or what?
And lets be straight, 99% of the time its about a post, not the poster. Briggs has expressed some very personal views about some items like the Primo incident as “boys will be boys” as a most recent example. Thats on him to view it and it goes one step futher.
We have had some very interesting topics over the years with some very intelligent contributors which I found valuable and learned from. Contrast that to some really off the wall ignorant stuff and I was not alone in.
Glad you find it interesting. Feel free to correct me or anyone else to keep this site a place of honest opinions and accurate discussions.

I didn't know that Melo was that young when we traded for him. I guess our only hope to get a super star will be to get him as a free agent and he really wants to be a Knick like Brunson. If we get one he will just might have to leave some money on the table. No team in the NBA will give us a fair deal in a trade.

No team is selling its stars for cheap or even fair these days. picks are uncertain so its a never a fair trade unless you go out 5 years.
Melo seemed to have aged rather quickly but he really went from one era to another and did not improve to meet higher expectations of defense or running the offense thru him. He was a premium finisher. He tried the triangle with best intension to “sacfifice his game”, but did not bend enough to it. In the end it became antiquated and we have talked about this in great length over the years.
In retrospect we did not pay a high price relative to todays asking price for in their prime players like DM commanded. Media was all over the place, they did buy into the “coming home” propaganda but the reality is we paid a big price as the cupboard was empty as we had few picks and ability to properly build around him and the fast declining Amare. JR Smith was an absolute necessity for us and thats how bad it was. Shump never fully was able to develop to his potential. now, did the players and picks really move the needle for Denver? Two franchises and too much time to fully say one way but lets be real, they were more successful since the trade than we have. Can’t say it was the trade that really started it can we? Way too many pieces have come and gone for both teams. Jamal Murray was the last pick we gave them for the trade.
Water under the bridge now. PhilC “Media narrative”? LOL.

Look there are posters whose posts I find annoying. You can just ignore them. I ignore Kemet for example. Used to be nixluva. But I don't stalk them.

Kemet? I don’t agree with many of his views but like I said its not about that. Its how its presented as either opinion or facts.
I did not call 1248 names after each post. Just the crazy ones. He came off as arrogant, redundant, made up stuff and got called out on it. Sorry if you have an relative or one you love afflicted like a fictional movie character and my words offended you. I stopped and never used it toward an other intensely redundant posters who freaks out over the same thing over and over again.

I call it bullying because you have one poster at a time who gets in your craw, and you're up their ass immediately after each of their posts. Like you have some bot scraping the site alerting you for their posts. It would be fine if you were generally fact checking everyone. Or random posts. But you're not. As i said in my original post, it's interesting that you serially choose one poster at a time (generally till they disappear) to pick on. That is bully behavior.
I'll be honest. I don't like even your non-bullying posts. They come off as preachy/superior and vacuous at the same time. Rambling with no point except that we can't make a conclusion at this time. Rarely do you state an actual opinion and you seem to take pride in not doing so. But fine, i have the option knowing your posts don't actually have any content of value and skipping over them.
So let me ask you this. Do you consider yourself a bulkwark against ignorance on the Internet? Are you going to clean it up one user at a time? And you came to UK (a sports fan site, of all places) to do so? Maybe you should switch it up and fact check on a site that debates vaccinations.
