I have defended Randle, as I do all our players, for some time. However, it is clear that Randle seems done and has NO confidence. Whether it was our famous NY hospitality or his inability to adapt to this new role, he is just not looking good. Maybe he is only at his best as the primary scorer on a bad team. One thing is clear, he may not be a good fit with this starting lineup with RJ and JB.

Problem is, we have bigger issues.
NONE OF OUR YOUNG GUYS CAN SHOOT OR HAVE HIGH BBALL IQ! We can blame Randle for ALL of our problems. But we are ignoring obvious issues with the other 90% of the team. Besides Obi close to 50% 3pt shooting, everyone else is struggling yet again.
Additionally, Thibs mentioned this the other night. Maybe no one heard him but we gave up 18-19 points off offensive boards. Seemed pretty important factor in contributing to the loss. Considering Randle is our best rebounder, how will moving him improve that?
I am sure everyone realizes that Obi does not exactly stick around to help on the boards much. Reason why he is first man down on transition. Randle also has been decent defending the 4. Not sure if we can say that would be Obi's strong suit. Lastly, our offense struggled for stretches.
We asked Randle to cut down on his shooting. Share the ball. He has. Yet we are blaming Randle for lack of offense.

But as I said, I get it. Randle dribble turnovers were comical the other night. His three point shot looks like Dennis Smith Jr. part 2. (Another NY fan treatment victim). But think goal should be to get him back to his aggressive role. Without the dribbling and 3pt chucks. He needs his alpha mentality back. If he can't do it with first unit then move him to second unit where he can be the primary scorer again. If he continues to stink up the place through the trade deadline, then move him.

But lets not lose sight of our bigger issues mentioned above. Ones that may only be made worse once he leaves.

Disagree. Randle hits his stride near the trade deadline, he should get other teams interested. Would probably be a team thats one good player from contending this season. And Randle can fill a stat sheet.

His value is lower now, but I dont believe its fixed.

Losing to the Hawks appears to trigger people. I'm going to give it at least 20 games before I get all judgy.

On the bright side, Grimes emerges as the best player of his draft class and he is our closer and all star. Grimes all star play elevates the team and RJ and Julius reap the benefits. Optimism reigns supreme

Don't tau this from me. I pretty much joined this forum to find a place to express my Randle love somewhere. He's my favorite Knicks since I started watching the team in the early 90's. Melo didn't want to get his hands dirty and Ewing was just too old by the time I started watching the team. He's like a super charged Mason. And now that he's smiling and happy... even better.

Vs. One of my favorite scenes of the season was Randle lined up next to Knox while the Pistons took free throws. Randle starts chatting up Knox and when the shot is about to go up, Randle just shakes like a maniac, Knox jumps into the lane, and then Randle turns and points it out to the official. High comedy.

Lol, this was 7 games into the season and we were 3-4. We had just lost to Cleveland following the busted Mitchell trade and Mitchell went off…..and Atlanta with Murray going off. Yeah I was a little salty. Randle was just standing around not really engaged while Brunson was handling the ball and he wasn’t looking like a good fit but rather the disengaged pouty version of Randle. I still think a long ball handling defensive minded guard who can pass and score would fit nicely next to Brunson. At the time with Brooklyn is disarray I thought they might break up the team and consider moving Simmons who is a former Allstar whether you like him or not. It was about constructing a roster around Brunson and not Randle who was still acting like a fool

It's still crow. No worries, we all wrong A LOT.
What we are learning is Randle talent was substantial and playing at high level consistently is really not easy.

If you can guarantee me this years Randle (in terms of attitude and motor) is what we're getting the duration of his contract, he's a keeper for sure. But guys like Randle are unpredictable.

Nobody on this team is untouchable (except maybe Brunson unless you can get a younger better PG) and I would trade Randle in the right trade but I'm not giving him away for something like Jae Crowder like I wanted to before the season. I also have to admit I've become less interested in finding minutes and a starting role for Obi. I like Obi a lot but he's not ever going to be as good and as productive as Randle.

Rookie wrote:“We want [Randle] to score a lot of different ways, so not just with the ball, but moving without the ball, running the floor, cutting, and that sort of thing,” Thibodeau said. “I think that’s one of his strengths, his speed and athleticism.

Ok so now the coach has said it, let’s see if Randle gets the message. Fixing Randle is the most important key to a successful season. Let’s all hope he is coachable. If this Randle shows up, I would go with 48 wins and a hard fought 6th spot in the playoffs. Yes, PLAYOFFS!

Ok well there is hat too There was one point this season where Randle was starting to play well in spurts. And then he stepped up the effort on D for like 5 minutes and it made a big difference in the outcome of the game. He was lock down! I remember being like WTF he can play D? Where has this been? And then I was really pissed. As long as we are having an intervention, might as well get it all out there

I absolutely loved Carmelo Anthony but Julius Randle is becoming a better overall Knicks talent. Almost damn near as good as Melo at scoring but he's a much better rebounder than Melo, a 10x better Defensive player than Melo ever was and also a better playmaker/passer than Melo's time as a Knick.

Julius Randle is for real and I'm absolutely loving it.

Dude, there are no guarantees in life.
We drafted a 7'3" 3 point shooting, shot blocking unicorn that ended up injured and demanded a trade off the Knicks WHILE HE WAS OUT FOR FUCKING THE YEAR. The fucking nerve of that guy!
And here we have Randle, busting his ass every night, muscling up, barely ever misses a game, shooting threes, near the top of the league in scoring and rebounding and all at HALF max contract. And you want guarantees?

Panos @ 1/27/2023 8:17 PM
Btw, for the record, I'd trade Brunson before Randle for a PG that gets more teammates involved.

I didn't know about that man. From what I've seen, imo, Jalen Brunson does an outstanding job of getting his teammates involved.

He's currently averaging 6.3 Assists Per Game as a Knick.

And you know who else averaged exactly 6.3 Assists Per game throughout his career? Walt Clyde Frazier.

Mark Jackson = 8.0 Per Game.
Micheal Ray Richardson = 7.1 Per Game.
Stephon Marbury = 7.0 Per Game.
Raymond Felton = 6.6 Per Game.

That's it. No other Knick has ever averaged more assists per game (outside of those 4) than Jalen Brunson's 6.3 Per Game.

And his 22.4 Points Per Game on top of his assists? I pretty much had no idea who he truly was before 2022-2023 (outside of Playoff Highlights on YouTube) but Jalen Brunson is already my favorite NY PG of All-Time (I wasn't yet born during those Walt Clyde Frazier days).

Move over Charlie Ward (my former/previous favorite NYK PG of All-Time) because we've got a new Sheriff in town; and his name is Jalen freaking Brunson.

No way am I trading either of them.
