Knicks · We need a TRUE PG. Is Brunson that? (page 2)

Or the other option is trading Mitch for a stretch 5 (or starting hart) and using Randle as a pick and roll finisher and spot up shooter. The shooting is really coming around at least.

I like the idea of starting Hart. He is much more involved in the offense. And his D is starting material. I hope Simms isnt the starter while Mitch is out. He played well, but not well enough to supplant Hart in the rotation.

Mitch being hurt so soon in the season again is a real kick in the...gut. Maybe he does better coming off the bench. The second unit is good at finding Mitch for the flush.

Hart is outplaying him, and I dont see that changing. The surprising thing is his calling card was 3pt shooting, and thread the needle passes, before he got here. Now its more of Charles Oakley glue guy role, without the crazy.

If he starts hitting 3s, the FO will have a decision to make. Wouldnt trade Mitch yet.

Still would trade Draymond Green for Randle, but that window might have passed, with those ISO stats. Would throw in a first rounder. I dont believe Green wants "the punch" to be his legacy. His passing alone would open up the offense.

The Trade Randle thread takeover attempts are strong in you.

Bro, we have every other thread to focus on trading Randle. We get it. You hate the guy.

Sure, we can agree that having iso centric players is not a good thing.
This thread is about JB. Maybe one of the things a PG can help with?
We now have RJ, JB and Randle that have a habit of too much one one one/iso play.
But let's keep it about your hate for one.

How can you talk about JB without acknowledging the elephant in the room? When you have guy going ISO crazy and using up attempts, it impacts EVERYONE. The last game we saw one of the greatest scorers in the history of the game defer to his teammates and play within the offense... And then we had Julius Randle. Basketball isn't played in a bubble and Randle's decision making absolutely impacts JB's effectiveness as a point guard.

Bro, he is not an elephant for you. More like a whale. Your solely focussed on Randle. I know nothing I say will ever change that. I bring up JBs tendency to be a score first/high dribble PG at times and you go to blaming Randle for it due to too much iso?
Ok, I'll play along since you can't change course. Iso Crazy? Not arguing that is not one of the things he needs to work on. But I know you have been watching. Randle has been far from "Iso crazy" He has 1 game with only 10 shot attempts. Two games with 12, 2 with 13.
With most of those shots coming from three point attempts. He is also second in team in dimes.
Many have spoken positively of the obvious attempts to move the ball.
Not exactly the pound the ball iso game you are trying to portray.

So Randle is the elephant?
Not the teams poor shooting percentage?
Not the terrible defensive rotations?
Not RJs, IQs, Rose's, EF's poor start?
Not the team shooting under G League standards from 3?
Nah, let's stick to the broken record Randle scapegoating.

Point is, you are focussed on one thing. Fine. If that makes you feel better. I am trying to bring up other aspects that may improve the team we both love. Knowing that the ENTIRE team has flaws.

Trust me, I know this team has issues within issues. And as I much as I want to trade Randle, I know it's a pipedream. You know why? Because no one else in the league will take him off our hands with the Knicks giving up compensation. What does that tell you? He's a sunk cost. If Randle was soooo good, why aren't other teams beating down the door to aquire him? I think most of us will get off the broken record the minute Randle shows some maturity and stops making the same mistakes we've harping on for going on four years. Hell, I'd be happy if he stopped jumping in the air to make passes that have %50 chance of going into the stands. Maybe the next step could keeping his head up on the dribble and not spinning into double teams?

Not sure how any of us know what his true value is. Would agree lower than it was two years ago.
Nor do I disagree that he needs to improve.
Only point is that every spot on our rotation does as well.
Focusing on trading one does not change that.

Great game by JB against Detroit. Moved the ball early. Good mix of getting everyone involved. 7 dimes and 4 steals vs 2 against Nets. Took over at end of game when it got close. True PG last night.

Would have been a nice addition with Brunson.

Really thought Murray was the guy to go after. Surprised when he became available but thought the price was a bit high at the time. But like you said, in retrospect, seems fair now. Although, not sure how he would have blended with RJ,RB and Randle. He likes to shoot just as much if not more than they do.

Brunson isn’t the problem. We have ok talent and he makes the rest of the roster better. Obi is probably the best example he looks like a different player this season with an actual pg on the roster

OBI hitting his threes is the biggest change this year. Defense has to respect it when so it creates interior space.
His chemistry with IQ is very good.

Obi is getting open looks at beyond 3-point line plus not as much pressure on him to create his own shots. He’s an Amare clone and Amare was at his best with Nash

Clone? far from it. Amare had low post game and not the range of OBI.
Different era perhaps and OBI taking more long range attempts. Amare mirage game was more prevelant, both have excellent moves to the rim but Amare by age 24 was all star and was far more explosive in traffic to the rim.
