Knicks · Fire Thibs (page 33)

There were players sitting on the bench who could have given the team some energy, made more stops.

This is the time for Thibs to trust his bench when so many starters are hurt. Cant win this series without expanding the rotation IMO.

VDesai @ 5/2/2023 8:36 AM
If you're looking for shooting, guys aren't come off the bench cold hitting shots. I think you could make an argument for Deuce to play a little, but only for defensive reasons.

If I had one criticism of Thibs is that the team can sometimes play tight. They say he is like Belichick - hyperprepared. I believe it. We are competetive in nearly every ball game - we didn't blown out very often this year. We played all the big teams in the league pretty damn close and beat a lot of them. But sometimes the guys are tight - turnovers, missing open shots. I felt like aside from that we were in a pretty strong position to win the game. The Heat werent locking us down defensively - they left us open and hoped we would miss to get back in the game. What they did well is outlet on rebounds on missed shots to finally get some easy baskets themselves.

IF we don't let the Heat score in transition they were struggling to get good shots. They were forcing 3s all first half and most were not great looks.

You are not wrong. Another way to say this: the team is young and inexperienced.

Can’t win without adjusting real time.

1. Why didn’t we go after butler? He was injured.
2. No strategy to attack Love and make him play defense.
3. Deuce only needs 5-10 mins swing the momentum with his defense alone.

If you can’t stop Brunson, which most players can’t. Then the only way is to attack him. This is where deuce and even IQ can help. But this is a thibs call and not always a pre-game plan but real time adjustments.

Sorry I missed the 3rd quarter. Like Brunson said, blame that on me. We’ll even the series up soon.

We are in the bottom third of the league for shooting percentage. You can't win without consistent good shooters. Watching the two game last night made me realize just how bad our shooting is. We are like a JV team playing against a Varsity team. Got to give our guys a lot of credit for effort and desire but that can only go so far. Why our front office has adverser reaction to getting shooters is a mystery. It's been like that for a while now.

We won 47 games starting two 22 year olds and are in the second round.
That has not been like that for while.
If you think of Miami as the team that went to finals two years ago, was the top seed last year and took boston to 7 games, maybe losing game one is not like losing to a typical 9 seed. Far from it.
Knicks had the no 4 offense in the regular season. That has not been like that for a while either.
We beat the snot out of Cavs in first round. That has not been like anything for 10 years.
Thibs reinvented himself.
Thibs starts yoot.
He is not perfect and neither is this season. Miami got its shyt together and was only 3 wins less than us this year.

ccch......We don't have shooters, we have scorers who can shoot. That means on some days they will shoot the lights out. Other days they will be in a shooting slump. Right now as a team, we are in a shooting slump.

You can argue for more shooters, but becareful what you ask for. EF is a shooter and thats why he's on the team. Unfortunately the FO forgot about defense. It's very difficult to find a shooter who plays defense. But there are several 2 way scorers who play defense. The rest is up to the offensive schemes coach Thibs enforce. Some systems are good for shooters and others not. So we have scorer, we have shooters. But do we have the offensive scheme to allow these shooters to shine? Steve Novak was a shooter. On this team under Thibs, would he get much PT? So it's not just the roster, but the system as well.

What we have is enough to win games. And we should've won the first game, but we didn't. Doesn't mean the roster is now flawed.

everything in this post is so spot on... well done man. If you listen to Thibs he's totally aware as well. He talks about getting a certain (high) volume of 3s a game and simply being close league average.

KNicks are shooting .268 from 3 over 6 games and they are 4-2. Their BEST shooting game from 3 was .310

They literally have not had one good shooting game yet (from 3)

fournier and Cam were supposed to be that guy. for both - their defense wasn't at grade level though, so they sit/sat. their shooting doesn't justify playing either of them with no defense.

RJ and Hart are about the only ones consistently getting to the rim right now. Brunson ran into a wall. If IQ, Grimes, Deuce, start driving more, I think it will help give them the confidence to start making those 3s. I know they've had open looks, but taking it to the rim, getting to the line should help in that dept.

I agree with you. But if the refs are letting them play, then all those drives just to get a call doesn’t work. Something I saw last game on both sides.

For some reason (granted I missed the 3rd quarter) but if we slow down Vincent from getting hot, we win this game. Reminds me of garland when he went off that one game. After that he was the focus on defense. We need to make sure Vincent and lowery don’t kill us. And Brunson must have a good scoring game to off set them. Regardless if we are hitting 3s or not. So I believe in thibs to make the right adjustments. And I believe the players understand they have to attack and play with a seminar of urgency. We do well in must win games.

EXTEND COACH TOM THIBS!!!!!
blkexec @ 5/8/2023 7:20 AM
Didn’t thibs do this in the atl series? Switched up the starting lineup and put in drose as a starter and it backfired.

Grimes and this starting unit been together all season. Just because grimes got hurt he loses his starting role?

As soon as grimes was back, he should’ve started. As soon as Randle Brunson or RJ was back from injury they started.

My point is why now? Hart should’ve moved back to his normal roll when grimes was back and our bench unit would’ve looked a lot better than it has been.

Now our starting unit and bench unit look out of sync.

No it's cause Grimes is still probably hurt.

Changing coaches is not going to make this roster shoot the three better. This is a roster and personnel issue.

The move didn’t backfire it just wasn’t effective. Payton got lit up. Rose got lit up too.

Difference now is there is actually a possibility Fournier can make 3 point shots off the bench meanwhile IQ is injured and Grimes is missing layups

Ironically, our season might be in the hands of Fournier. You can't make this stuff up.

Lets see which direction Thibs go in game 4.

Start Grimes
Play Fournier
Play Deuce
